Been a patient here for over 10 years. The optometrists are great. They have a very complete suite of diagnostic equipment, and the Drs use all the info they gather in generating a thorough prescription (glasses and contacts). They are knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. The front desk is improving, their attitude has improved greatly, they are helpful and patient. The optometry (glasses-sellers) on the other hand - SUCK - as does the "lab" they use. They will sell you all the bells and whistles, coatings, frames , clips ... take your money, don't call to let you know if they've come back, (if they ever do), and BS their way when after 5 weeks you call to ask where they are. I'm talking flat-out lie. By all means - get your prescription here -- it will be excellent -- then go get your lenses elsewhere. read more

Before scheduling our appointment, I read the reviews for this location, which gave me confidence that we would have an amazing experience. Had my first visit at this location closer to home than the one in Herndon we visited for 10+ years. I made an appointment online using my Medicaid insurance. Later, I received a missed call from them, so I called back and left a voicemail stating that I had just missed their call and was returning it. I never received a response, just a text message around 7 PM confirming my appointment. When I arrived for the appointment, I was told they didn't mean to send the confirmation text and that they do not accept Medicaid. I explained that I had called back and received no follow-up call, text, or email clarifying this. They were completely unresponsive to the situation, and I wasted both time and money going to an appointment, only to be turned away. If this is how MyEyeDr handles communication and professionalism, I would never recommend them. read more

I left an appt feeling very overcharged today. Came in with my daughter and they added some sort of scratch proofing without telling me. I got that taken off she just went ahead and added additional insurance again without asking me or proving any additional information about what that entails or a pamphlet that I can refer to. This was my first time (and last time) at this office. It was a waste of nearly two months of my time, as you'll see below. Oct 26 - eye exam, prescription, ordered new glasses, told to expect them 7-10 business days later Nov 9 - still no glasses, no calls, so I called them and they said they had to do an in-house quality check first and then they'd call me to come pick them up. Nov 18 - still no calls (and no glasses), so I called them and they said lenses were delayed but should be in the following week. Nov 30 - still no calls (and no glasses), so I called them and they said they wouldn't be ready until Dec 6. Dec 6 - I called and they initially said they wouldn't be ready until Dec 9. I asked to start the refund process, but manager asked me to wait - then, 5 minutes later, they found them in the back. I picked them up that night. Dec 7 - New prescription was not clean or sharp, and actually worse than my older prescription (which was from a different provider altogether). Dec 9 - returned to office in an attempt to resolve problems with bad prescription, and waited one hour to see somebody. They eventually read my new glasses to ensure the prescription was correct based on what doctor ordered. They said it was correct, but doctors were unavailable to help at that time. Optician said he'd consult with doctor the next day. They said they'd call me back next day with next steps. Dec 14 - still no calls back. Called them and they said all opticians/doctors are busy. Manager was also busy. I asked them to call me back about glasses and also about refund policy. Manager called back, left a very brief message, but left no detailed information about refunds or any resolution plan. As a note, my records indicate charges immediately following initial appointment (within next 1-2 days), but this return phone call was the first call of any kind initiated from this business with respect to my account in 49 days. Dec 16 - I went into the office, gave them the unsatisfactory glasses back, and I am awaiting a refund to be processed. read more

Have been going here almost 20 yrs, found out this yr Dr Allen sold to MyEye Dr and my previous optometrist was no longer working here. Experience with the front desk staff is not friendly, especially the African American lady that handles billings. She wad rude, short , unfriendly. She should not be at front desk or any customers facing role. I felt that she discriminated against me. She did not even welcome the customer when walking in the office, no Hi, no Bye, no Thank you. After a year of no luck with finding an optician where I moved to, I am now driving back to Ashburn - 90 minutes away, because they do such a great job. I would like to report that it appears there has been a change in the way this business answers their phones. I was contacted by Jim the man who has been wonderful with helping me with my new glasses and frames. I I originally picked up my glasses, after wearing them a few days i felt that were too big for my face. I contested Jim to ask him about the price of new lenses that could be put into another frame I already had. Jim was able to contact my insurance company and he was told the new lenses would be at no cost, as insurance will cover them. It has been a pleasure to work with Jim and would definitely come back and ask him for assistance if needed. read more

I have eye coverage and called for a regular eye exam. Showed my eye card for insurance. I always dr Slavin but she doesn't work as many days anymore. She is great. So I just took the new young dr. Dr khalsieh. He was great. I had no issues other than continue using otc reading glasses. I paid $39 for an extra dilation they said insurance wouldn't cover. I always pay this extra. Then I get a bill for $196 saying it was a comprehensive exam. I asked for an eye exam. Tammy at front desk said that is way the dr entered the code. She said Dr Slavin entered that same code last two years ago. What does that have to do with the price of anything? I was on a different insurance then. Dr's are good. Also the bill says "They Will do everything to ascertain what my insurance company will cover before I leave the office. Maybe before u have service. Or at least told me when I left? Also. I have Medicare a supplement and eye coverage I pay each month. They didn't ask me anything so I feel they took the expensive coding of my visit. read more

They've all gone above and beyond for me on my difficult/changing vision and glasses needs on multiple occasions--thank you!! I work in the area and was referred to Ashburn Eye care Associates by a coworker, I have been Coming here for two years, what I like about this practice is it's a one stop shop, they provide a very nice selection of frames, there lab is on site and their equipment is state of the art. My first year after getting my prescription updated I use my old frames and just had them install the new lenses which they were fine with doing that, My 2nd. year I went back and I got a pair of glasses made unfortunately the frames were a little small initially however when I called and went back they were more than accommodating to switch them out for me at no additional cost. My personal experience has been very pleasant from the front office to the eye doctor and the office manager Angie was very accommodating. read more

This review has been a LONG time coming. I wish I would have read reviews before coming here, but alas I did not. I have been a patient at this practice for about four years. I love my doctor (Mallory Kuchem) BUT I cannot stand the front desk anymore. Their wait times for appointments are horrendous. For example, I came in for a contact lens check and the whole process took over 45 minutes. I waited in the front waiting area and then was taken to the back waiting area to wait some more. I saw the doctor for a full three minutes before I was sent on my way. That is absolutely ridiculous. But that story wasn't the breaking point for me. I realized it was the middle of the day during summer so lots of kids were getting fitted for contacts. I try to be accommodating​. My contact lens check was 8/17/2017. I ordered a three month supply of contacts at that date and was told they would be ready in 3-7 business days. A week passes, I hear nothing. I call them and ask and the front desk says "Oh, they're on their way." Fine, ​maybe they were back ordered​. Another week passes and another week passes. No contacts. Hmmm weird. I call again to be reassured that they will call me when they are in. Come September 19 and still NO contacts. It has been a month. I call for the third time and I'm told they were NOT ordered. They put in my order again and I'm told to wait another 3-7 business​ days. I get a call that they are in. FINALLY! I go to get my three months supply of contacts on September 30th and I am given the incorrect amount of boxes. I'm short two months. I'm livid at this point. It has taken a month for these to come in and they aren't even correct. I am told the contact lens technician is new or something along those lines and they will order the remaining two boxes. They ordered the boxes, called me about a week and a half later saying they were in. Today 10/18/2017 I got my two boxes. Two months of waiting for contacts. TWO MONTHS. This is your JOB people. I will never step foot back into this practice. They do not deserve my money or yours. I've reached my limit with businesses who waste my time and fail to listen. After my very nice Maui Jims were stolen, I made an appointment to update my prescription and order new sunglasses. In the meantime, having misplaced my clip-ons, I called to see if they were "in stock" - a verbatim quote. Of course only after the obligatory 5-minute wait on hold to be transferred. I was told "Yes" - another verbatim quote. I specifically said I need to come by and pick up a pair to hold me over until my soon-to-be-ordered Maui Jims arrived. Running my own business where time is actually money, I drove to the office preparing to spend the $130 as I was specifically told they cost because they were "in stock". Waiting an acceptable amount of time to be met with, I was informed they have to be ordered. Of course, being only schooled at a public institution of higher learning, I apparently misunderstood the meaning of "in stock" vice "have to be ordered". No appreciation for the value of my time...and money...so I will go somewhere it is appreciated and I'm treated like profit - not overhead. read more

The doctors are great, but the front office is godawful. I had contacts on order and was expecting a call. After forgetting about them I randomly called to ask if I'd forgotten to order them. They said "Oh yes, they just arrived today." How convenient. I'd avoided them for years but had to go back and had the same experience. Went today to pick up the lenses after calling to confirm I could. Upon arrival I was told I had to schedule an appointment. If you have the patience of a saint, feel free to use them. Few places make my blood boil anymore. This one does. I wish I could recommend an alternative, but know of none. read more

Stay away!!! This place is shady and will look for anyway they can to get money from you. I went in for a follow up for contacts fitting and while the doctor is looking at my eye she says oh looks like your eye is a little scratched. I had no idea my eye was scratched I was there simply for contacts fitting but because SHE found a little scratch they charged an extra $95 for a medical diagnosis which isn't covered by insurance. I didn't go there saying oh my eye hurts can you look at it. I went there for contacts. In conclusion, They will charge you for services you didn't even ask for. Snakes.... watch out! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Allen or Dr. Slavin yearly now for over 5 yrs. love this practice. Even though it it really busy they take time to answer all questions and make sure that the prescription fits. At my very first appt I found out my script was too strong. I felt like my eyes relaxed as soon as Dr. Slavin had me try what she felt was correct for my eyes. I have gotten contacts, glasses and prescription sunglasses here. Jim is great at fitting glasses and it seems they have a decent selection. If you have insurance the staff is great at making sure you get everything you are untitled to get. read more

This is a very dishonest business, as commented by there already. I made an appointment to have vision exam in order to get prescription for a pair of glasses. When I called them, I emphasized several times that I do not need a medical eye exam because I just had one with my ophthalmologist. The girl said it's OK. When I arrived for my appointment, they insisted to have my medical insurance card (in addition to my vision insurance info). When I asked why they finally told me the truth - they won't do any vision exam without a full medical eye exam! Why didn't they tell me over the phone?! I guess they figured if they cheated and got you inside the door already, and got hold of your medical insurance card, you have no choice but do all those. Apparently this is not a simple mistake by the front desk. The older guy who's in charge of the place was definitely behind this scheme. He didn't offer any apology for wasting my time, he was very rude. Folks, there are plenty other places in Ashburn where you can get vision exam without full medical eye exam. Stay away from this one. One more comment about the COVID safety. The front desk girl was wearing a thin fabric cover that keeps falling off and exposing her nose! read more

I have been going to this eye doctor for quite a few years now and have seen the quality of staff deteriorate dramatically. Many times I have received incorrect glasses and/or lenses -- there seems to be very little effort focused on quality (quality of the office processes and procedures, quality of the choice of public facing individual). I have switched to a different optician in the area. The front desk staff is incompetent, unhelpful and rude. Perhaps the most frustrating thing about this office is the team who help you pick out frames and fit for eye glasses. As far as being unhelpful, they are just as bad as the front desk staff. They certainly are not optical professionals as they do not convey a feeling of knowledge and understanding in the job they do. Some of the doctors are decent, most however are not. Buyer beware: hold on to your wallet because this office will suck every last penny out of it. read more

Normally i go to the Ashburn location but recently i had an exam at the Chantilly location. They had me fill out paperwork and within the paperwork they asked me if i wanted additional eye exams at and extra charge since insurance doesnt cover that. I left those options blank and did not sign the line. Well after my exam they decided to take advantage of my lack of knowledge of eye exams and gave me the additional exams anyway even after i told them i didnt want them. Then when i was going to check out they charged me $129 for these exams. i told them i never requested them and they still charged me anyway. Then they have the audacity to try and push their overpriced products at me. After going to the Ashburn location for 15 years this will be the last time i deal with this practice. read more

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Allen, maybe for over 20 years. I think we were maybe some of Dr. Allen's first customers in Ashburn. It was a great practice. Service was great. I'm not sure what has happened, but they may just be too successful! Rarely see Dr. Allen, he is the best. Dr. Colburne was also excellent, but he has moved to Bristow, VA. Dr. Slavin just wants to sell you as much as she can. The staff is not helpful. They don't want to give you a paper copy of your prescription although you paid for it. Wait times are horrendous. They don't return calls. They don't call when your glasses are ready, you have to call them. But, I would not blame this on the front office staff. I believe they are over worked. I believe it is greed. Whoever owns and manages this practice now, is all about the money. Time to find a new optometrist who cares about the customer. I'm didn't want to let go, but was living in the past, it is time to go! read more

Absolutely fabulous practice! I have a very hard to fit contact prescription and they worked really hard to make sure that it worked for me. I've seen Dr. Rob Allen as well as a few other Dr.'s over the years I have been coming here. It is definitely a busy office as it would be with Dr's that are this knowledgeable and experienced. I really appreciate the time and attention. They definitely remember your name and make you feel like family when you're there. Wouldn't trust anyone else!! read more

The Eye Doctors here are great and provide a excellent eye exam. The down side is the part where you get your glasses. We have had a couple of years where what we ordered wasn't provided. I think for us getting our exam here and going elsewhere for glasses is what we are going to do in the future. read more

In July 2021 I went in to get my Prada sunglasses changed to the prescription provided by the optometrist from the AEA. I have been returning to the office several times to get my prescriptive sunglasses for fitting since I was seeing blurry. With each return I get an excuse: there is no anti-reflective coating which was causing me to see my own eyes, the prescription is off, the lens is curved, the lenses were digitalized (not man-made), etc. When the sunglasses are supposedly ready, the lab doesn't call you. You need to call numerous times if you're lucky front desk answers the phone. On one of my trials, I noticed they damaged the frame and warped them to a different shape they were originally; meaning one side was round the other oval. All these issues kept causing me to have headaches. At the beginning of my bad experience, I wrote a review on Google and received calls from headquarter to remove it with the promise of resolving the issue immediately. It's now December and I still don't have my sunglasses. My Christmas wish is to have my glasses and my money back; and compensation for the damage caused to the my Prada frames. I should have read the reviews. Worst service. PLEASE DON'T GO THERE TO GET YOUR LENSES. read more
