I visited Humming Puppy through ClassPass and can't wait to get back. I'll get to the yoga in a second but I think it's worth mentioning all of the amenities these guys provide. Want to take a shower? They provide complimentary towels and bath products. Need to charge your phone? They've got portable chargers. Thirsty? Have some coconut water or a tea. Forgot your hair tie? They've got you covered. There's a great area outside of the studio that I could definitely see hanging out in just to avoid leaving this studio! The studio itself is a bit dark and mysterious looking, and it "hums." I took a Mellow Hum class, which was a yin-esque class where the room was heated to 27 degrees. The instructor was amazing, and the hour flew by way quicker than I wanted it to. This studio is also a 5 minute walk from the Redfern station so really easy to get to!

My body was made for loving, not plodding around some path, dodging pedestrians in a busy city. Looked on line for some alternatives and came up trumps with Body Mind Life. I managed to jag an on line special of $43 for one month, unlimited classes. Considering the casual price is around $20 per class, I only needed to do three classes to be ahead. Bloody great deal! In the end, I did one a day, for five days. Each class I took had a different teacher, meaning I got a great look in for several of the different styles and teaching methods on offer. What threw me at first was the heat of the rooms -- I didn't realise they do raise the temperature in there to about 30 degrees, meaning you are dropping some sweat after the first series of sun salutations. So take a towel. Of note and much appreciated, in no particular order are these aspects: * huge studio space * decent hard flooring, meaning no malingering sweat stench in the room. Little markers tell you where to lay your mats at a respectable distance from the person next to you * thick, great quality mats and clean white towels available for hire at a charge of $2 apiece * plenty of cleaning fluids and wipes to clean your mats afterwards and hang them to air (and participants all seem to do this - bonus) * bathroom facilities immense: toilets, showers, blowdryers, tissues, space and light aplenty * amazing array of class types and times, seven days a week * great vibe. The studio is conveniently located near the QVB and I find the environment serene and not overly crowded--no appendages or bums in my face! Rebecca is the sole instructor and is clear and calm when instructing. If planning to go several times a month, I recommend purchasing the 10 pass book as it ends up being $15/class. She also has some free relaxation/breathing classes in the later afternoon that I have yet to try, but plan to! :)

Shiva, the room where I took Theresa's 06:15 flow, almost had a museum-like (starkly pretty) quality about it. The class itself was dynamic and a lovely way to start an early winter morning. You can turn up to InYoga with nothing but yourself and still be fine for class. Mats are available to rent for $2 and if you do bring stuff there are lockers with keys in the changing rooms. Including myself, the class had seven students so there was no jostling for space among us. The class was a very nice way to start the day. For the most part vinyasas were optional and Rosh - who trained in Anusara - did a great job of building up to an advanced posture (if you dig that sort of journey you will enjoy her teaching).

I'd always pass by it and seen the upstairs from Oxford Street opposite the road. But it was only a few months ago that I came here thanks to a friend who recommended that I try it out. Luckily, during that time, a promo was running that I took advantage of and afterwards, I renewed because Preshana is truly something special. I can honestly say that it's changed my life for the better through the knowledgeable and extraordinary instructors who will challenge you. Yoga is not just physical, it's a whole package: mind, body, and spirit and that's the very reason why I love it! It's not always easy but if you're open to it, this is a space that cultivates change and evokes you to dig deep within yourself and grow from it. Heart Glow by Kelli and Release & Re-align (and other classes) by Vanessa are the ones I highly frequent and recommend. Their style of teaching is different from one another but I adore their individual styles because it resonates with me. But give the other classes and instructors a go. First class free!…read more After coming here, I don't think I'll like other studios where the lights stay on bright and there are mirrors. It's so relaxing with out them. They have beautiful images of Sydney waiting for you whenever you face forward and the mats are all set up for you at the start of class. At the end they rub your face and neck with lavender cream which was really relaxing. There's also tea which was delicious.

I have this thing about gyms where I, well, HATE them. There's something about the stale air, the…read morejocks looking at themselves in the mirror while pumping iron and the overwhelming feeling that I get in there - the feeling that maybe I should exercise?! It just seems barbaric to me. However, recently I found my calorie intake and level of exercise to be somewhat disproportionate. In the interest of not wanting to buy new pants, I sought out the gym that was the closest to where I live and that happened to be Anytime Fitness Glebe. Typically, a requirement for me when choosing a fitness facility is that they have a studio with daily cardio classes. Unfortunately, this isn't the case here. Nor do they have the pool / sauna combo that make some of its larger competitors stand out. The little gym has most everything else that you require, however, and if you also need to work out at 3am (God help you), this is also an option. Your swipe key will let you into the club as you might have already figured, anytime. There are 4 treadmills, 4 elliptical machines, 2 bikes and 2 rowing machines in their cardio section. They are all fitted with iPod hook ups and touch screen televisions. The "iron pumping!" section is filled with buff dudes in tank tops so I tend to steer clear, but it seems pretty well equip with machinery. In all, I don't suppose you would seek out Anytime Fitness if it weren't quite nearby your home or work, but if you must - this spunky little gym will get the trick done. Or should I say, provide the facility for you to do the doing.
