Dan Morris Dog Training & Grooming

DAN MORRIS IS AN EXCEPTIONAL DOG TRAINER!!…read more We have a 13 month doberman who had an obedience training at 5 months using treats but we were still not pleased with the training. So, we took him to Dan and he has been the best thing to happen to our dobbie. We absolutely love the training he has equipped us to train the dog with no treats or frills. Dan knows dog's psychology so well, he occurs to me as if he's a dog whisperer. He will give you feedback and corrections specific to your dog's behavior along with general commands and training useful to everyone and everyday. Our dog has definite set patterns and can be very stubborn. But as it goes theres no bad dog and only bad training. So, one has to be diligent enough to apply the learnings from the class everyday for the rest of the life of the dog. Been almost 4 weeks and my dogs has started responding exceptionally well. When we took our dobbie for the first time to Dan, I was in awe. It was as if magically Enzo was following everything Dan was asking him to. But here's thing, Dan makes the training look so easy but it's as much a training for you as for the dog. There's so many techniques to learn and apply. Dan has tons of wisdom to share and I absolutely adore Dan's humor. I so regret not getting him sooner to Dan. Nevertheless, it's never too late for anything, certainly not for training your dog right. Even post the classes, Dan is considerate enough to entertain any questions or concerns over the calls as we leave Michigan. Enzo with Dan Moris in the pictures here!

Sit Means Sit Dog Training Detroit - Trainer Tracy and Dovie on a lead

Sit Means Sit Dog Training Detroit

Sit Means Sit was originally recommended to me by a good friend (who has an amazingly well trained…read moredog herself) so my husband and I started off with the free in home assessment and met David. David went through the Sit Means Sit general methodology, the basics of the e-collar and gave us a demonstration with his very well trained working dog, Jet. My husband and I have been struggling with very specific behavior issues with our Border Collie for years and we were very impressed with Jet so we took the plunge! Our package includes 6 total in-home visits and a year of weekly group classes. Kevin was assigned as our in-home trainer. We used the first three in-home visits up on consecutive weekly visits where Kevin taught us the basics (how to use the e-collar and heel), we were given homework to do every week and on visit #3, our Border Collie was approved to begin attending weekly group classes! This location of Sit Means Sit staffs at least a half dozen trainers and every single one of them knows their way around a canine! I am pretty sure I have been in a class with all of the trainers and they are professional, patient and very good at what they do. Each week we go to one training class and do a different activity (I haven't had a repeat of an activity yet). The classes are great for re-enforcing skills you already know, learning new skills and getting help from the trainers if you are struggling. Two items I would like to note: First, the classes are usually very well attended (Really good trainers!) but a bit cramped. On average there are 15-25 dogs per class but can swell to 30 or more dogs depending on the week. I would like to see them split very large classes into two groups (weather permitting) or offering a couple more group class times during the week. My second concern is the lack of muzzles and yellow bandana (dogs that need space) on aggressive dogs. My Border Collie comes to every class with both a yellow bandana and a muzzle out of courtesy and safety for everyone. From what I can tell, the muzzle/ bandana policy is on the honor system and not required for all aggressive dogs. There are usually one or two snips and snarls during each group class but at times it can get ridiculous with the same aggressive dog going after multiple other dogs in the same class without consequence. I am NOT a professional dog trainer, I know the staff does their best to supervise the classes and maybe these instances are not as serious as I think they are but I think it is definitely worth noting for the (probably) novice reading this review. Overall, I definitely recommend Sit Means Sit. My 6-year-old Border Collie has a lot of energy and anxiety that would regularly lead to very stressful interactions with strangers, friends and family. I first started with Sit Means Sit in March 2019 and I can tell you, after only three short months, I have seen amazing positive results. From the basics of sit, down and heel to the more frustrating stranger danger, territorial behavior and general aggressiveness, Sit Means Sit has you 100% covered.

When we first started out, Teusdae, the owner, came to meet my dog and did a few walks with him one-on-one to assess his walking style, behavior, etc. He was then able to transition to buddy walks with Jill and other local dogs. Dobby LOVES Jill and gets so excited every time he sees her. Now he sometimes also does field trip walks where he gets to explore Belle Isle with a group of dogs Detroit Walk City will meet all your walking and pet sitting needs with flexible, reliable, and affordable services. But they go above and beyond that too - the staff are all wonderful and take awesome photos of the dogs on each walk. (See attached) They also have an app that tracks the walking route and if your dog went to the bathroom. Another great benefit is that walking with other dogs has really improved Dobby's behavior. He has been able to learn from other dogs he walks with and has gone from dragging me down the street to loose-leash walking next to me. If you are looking for a dog walker I HIGHLY recommend Detroit Walk City!
