We have a 1year old English Shepherd named Lucy who we adopted from Michigan Humane Society last…read moreDecember when she was 7 months old. Lucy is a very high energy dog who (we later discovered) was returned to the shelter twice in her young life. We didn't want that to happen again as we had grown to love her and she is a very sweet friendly dog. English Shepherds being a herding breed are extremely energetic and very intelligent and Lucy is no exception! We had 2 main concerns though. 1- she was terrible on walks, pulling hard the whole way 2- she started jumping the fence when left in the yard after she discovered she had the ability to do so. We had to chase her through the neighborhood several times. We eventually found Brian Walsh through Yelp and he came out for an evaluation. He immediately went to work on her and had her walking like a well behaved dog within 10 minutes! We were impressed so we hired him for a few more sessions and the change in her behavior is remarkable. It took some adjustment on our part as well as Lucy's but after a couple weeks of " Boot Camp" she is listening and following commands much better. We still don't trust her in the yard unattended but we know that if we follow Brian's instructions we will have her trained not to jump over the fence in no time. He gave us the knowledge to train her to think about consequences before acting and we have seen big improvements in her overall behavior already. I would highly recommend Brian to anyone looking for a good trainer

He came to my home and not only worked with my foster dog, but worked with my own dogs also. He stressed the importance of stability among the entire pack. Brian is patient with him and even more patient with me. My dog is making great strides and I am becoming a better pack leader in the process. I would highly recommend Walsh's K9. Brian teaches you why dogs do what they do so you think about your actions and how they effect your dogs behavior. I have learned a lot and look forward to learning even more.

Called a few days in and they said he was doing great. Came back to them saying he was sick most of the time and so incredibly sickly that we had to take him to an emergency vet. She gave us antibiotics and pain meds due to an open wound on his testicle from the cleaning solution they use to clean the kennels. Took over a week for him to be able to sit down without yelping. We spoke to Rodney and Rachel about it and they were quick to get us in and out and be done with it. They wrote us a check for the $130 vet visit, only to have the check BOUNCE AND HAVE MY BANK CHARGE ME A FEE. Absolutely ridiculous. How embarrasing for them. Now we don't feel safe leaving our babe and will bever be back.

The best thing I've ever done as a dog owner is invest in this training program. We have two pups,…read moreone a lab rescue, Amelia (3yo) and a rott mix rescue, Emmett (2 to). Our lab rescue was easy to train ourselves, but when we rescued the second pup we struggled with obedience. Quickly, the new pup taught the other some bad habits and we had lost most of the control in our home. This is a moment where you can try to insist you know what to do and can handle the responsibility you took on by yourself, or you can wise up and admit that you aren't a professional dog trainer and ask for help. We chose the latter. We have busy lifestyles, three kids going on four. Lots of activities and a social lifestyle. We chose the two week board and train for our rott mix, Emmett. It was a major investment and one I wish we had made sooner. It has changed our lives. This isn't to say we didn't have work to do, because you learn quickly that training is an everyday process for the rest of your dog's life. The difference is that Emmett now has a strong foundation and we were empowered with the skills to work with them and reinforce good behavior. Meal times are no longer spent worrying about if the dogs are counter surfing, instead they are laying calmly in their place in another room. Meal times are regulated and calm. They no longer run us over trying to rush outside in the morning. They get to enjoy being dogs and trust us as their owners. I am forever grateful for Mark, Rodney and Mika as their trainers. If you're struggling over the price, I promise you the quality of life you will get in return will be worth every single penny. We have loved the group train classes and I'm actually sitting outside waiting for Saturday's class as I write this. When I walked in I thought the trainers would judge me for not having control. Instead they are truly committed to helping you. Their support through the process has been a god send and if they see you or your dog struggling, they jump to step in and support you. It has been truly one of the best, encouraging and supportive programs and far exceeded any expectations we could have had coming into it. 10/10 recommend.

I first learned about Adele when my dog's breeder recommended her book, Competition Obedience: A…read moreBalancing Act. I never expected to do obedience competitively, but the book gave me a lot of great ideas for training my new puppy. I took a couple of classes with my dog at Northfield Dog Training, both times with Adele. I learned a lot and raised a well-behaved pet. With the goal of getting my current dog certified as a therapy animal, I'm back to Northfield Dog Training to polish up my dog training skills. I have been making tiny mistakes. Having a coach is a huge help. Having a small set of weekly goals makes the behavior modification seem simpler (for me, as well as my dog.) I am excited after just one class. I can do this. A good teacher helps you to start believing that you can do more with the resources you already have. ~~~ The training facility is in the country on a dirt road (Ellsworth just west of Wagner.) Classes take place in a huge pole barn at the back right corner of the property. The driveway turns to the right. On the website see the Facilities | Map & Directions page for the location and a photo of the driveways & class areas. The driveway splits when it turns the corner, so you ought to know that in order to prevent a logjam on a busy night. There are rubber mats on the floors to give the dogs a grip. There are two training areas: one for agility, another for obedience and other activities that require a lot of open space. There are daytime, evening and weekend classes. There is a restroom. To sign up for a class, go to the website and enter yourself and one or more dogs into the database. You pay online with a credit card. This eliminates the need for an office and lots of paperwork. Just don't use Chrome as your browser. Internet Explorer works. Adele has a YouTube channel, where you'll find examples of concepts introduced in the classes. There is also a Yahoo group to discuss dog training. I am impressed that she is using the available technologies to enhance what the instructors are doing in the classes.
