I've had a great experience learning about music through Evie Huang Music Studio…read more I had quite a bit of experience playing violin as a child, and now as an adult, I wanted to learn some piano with Evie. I currently go to their studio once a week for lessons. Listening for the right pitch and music theory has always been harder for me, but Evie and her husband Matt are some of the best teachers in the area. They actually not only teach high-level piano and violin, but Evie specializes in double bass and Matt in trumpet. Both at the professional orchestra symphony level. Evie's super knowledgeable, patient but firm, and you can tell she has a lot of experience and a passion for the art. I feel what makes her special is she has a great pace when demonstrating things, and it's in a very concise and deliberate manner. Matt has a wealth of experience and has taught me a lot about music theory. He's very intuitive and smart. I think he's extremely attuned and aware of what students need and when they aren't understanding something. And like Evie, he's able to break things down, but in a detailed fashion. They host a large recital (mainly for their younger students). Some of them are really good. They also have a great Instagram for tips and tricks that I find very helpful: https://www.instagram.com/eviehuangmusicstudio?igsh=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA%3D%3D Highly recommend Evie Huang Music Studio!

She knows how to encourage him, how to correct him and how to wait and wait and wait until he is ready for the next step. Her patience is truly admirable and is so key to teaching young children to play an instrument as complicated and precise as the violin. She also fosters his creativity through improv, such a key component to the artistic endeavor of learning an instrument. Today my son chose a prize from the "practice prize box" for filling in 50 stars for each time he practiced. He told me that once he had filled out enough star sheets he would probably be good enough to play in an orchestra. Thank you Kelly for keeping him engaged and excited about learning the violin!

I have been taking lessons with Sherry for about six months now and it has been truly a…read moretransformative experience. Sherry is a professional, kind, patient and supportive teacher with a passion for singing and performing. She has been able to bring me out of my shell and help me grow both as a singer and an individual. I had previously taken a few lessons with another teacher but felt like I didn't learn anything because the teacher had these convoluted explanations of techniques and how the voice works. Sherry makes it easy to understand and accessible. Her lessons are a combination of vocal warm-ups, method and then working on a song of your choice. Her lessons are incredibly fun and therapeutic. Sometimes when I feel tired or stressed after work, after her lessons I find myself feeling relaxed or re-energized. Taking lessons with her has really improved my self confidence. When I first started working with her, whenever she asked me what song I'd like to sing I'd often say "I want to do this song, but I don't think I can" and she would tell me she thinks I can and we can work on it together. Then we would break down the song and apply techniques where I can overcome my weaknesses and play to my strengths. She provides constructive criticism and gives you just enough of a push to grow without being too harsh. I find myself being able to sing songs that I previously struggled with or never thought I'd be able to sing. Sherry also puts on a recital for her students every quarter so that her students would have a chance to experience performing in front of an audience. If you choose to perform, she will coach you on stage presence and performance. It's a worthwhile experience to help conquer any stage fright you might have in front of a non-judgmental and supportive audience.

I started taking lessons with Sherry with no prior singing experience and had no idea what to expect. Over the past few weeks I've thoroughly enjoyed each and every lesson to the fullest and have noticed drastic improvements within a short time period (my highest note went from E5 to C6 in 6 weeks!). She's very good at explaining the mechanics and nuances of proper singing technique and is able to consistently point me in the right direction while creating a safe space for me to feel comfortable enough to explore my voice. Starting to take lessons with Sherry has been one of the best decisions I've ever made! Singing is so fun :)
