My kids were there Dec 2016 - Jul 2017. At first I thought it was a safe place for my kids, but then I was increasing concerned about the lack of abilities of the owner and her employees, who are all related. The owner is responsible for the infants, but frequently when I arrived she was making breakfast or in the entry room and the infants had no adult in the room. The owner & director work open to close every day. 2 others start at 8:30. Sometimes the owner's son works.
4 main things that concerned me:
- I saw as I drove by that no adults were outside with the kids. The gate to the grass alley (play area) was never locked & the grass was not mowed often enough. My kids were regularly covered in bug bites even after I sent bug spray.
- I never got clothes back. The owner would always say she was going to wash them for me, but then I would never see them again. I quit sending clothes for my infant son because I was fed up with the disappearing clothes, but I washed & returned the clothes he came home in that weren't his. I had the same problem with bibs.
- I don't know what my kids were fed there but I do know that my kids were very hungry and thirsty every day when I picked them up. (This instantly stopped when we changed daycares.) Every time I asked how my infant son was doing with table food the owner told me how much he loved sweet potatoes, which is the one food that upsets his stomach (and I told her this repeatedly).
- My infant son regularly had diarrhea while we were there, and regularly had diaper rashes. He also had recurring eczema. I had multiple doctor visits about this. I sent wipes that I knew didn't bother him, had him on probiotics, and regularly reminded the owner (infant caregiver) to please only use the wipes I sent and to not feed him sweet potatoes. I will never know why these were such problems while my son was in their care, but I do know that since we moved to another daycare my son has had no diaper rashes, no diarrhea, and no eczema.
- My 2 year old daughter struggled to sleep at night the entire time we were there. I was lucky if she was asleep by 10 and really lucky if she slept through the night. This was a regular topic of discussion with our pediatrician. I cut out all TV at home (it had been occasional PBS & nothing else) and I regularly asked about TV at daycare, because it was on when I dropped my kids off and on when I picked them up. I was always told it was only on during transition times. I will never know what they put her in front of or for how long, but I do know that within days of being out of there my daughter is ready for bed at 7:45 and sleeps through the night. She's also less hyperactive. Once kids are walking they are all in the same group there that gets put in front of the TV. I'm glad we left before my son was put in that room.
The owner and her family that work there all seem nice, and claim to be Christian, but their behavior can really contradict what they say. I was incredibly nice to them all while we were there in hopes that they would treat my kids well. I gave them a high chair when I saw they didn't have enough and gave them a rock-n-play when I saw an infant who would benefit from it. I brought them the WIC food every month that my kids didn't consume at home (eggs, juice, cereal & peanut butter). I nicely pointed out things that were clearly against licensing rules, such as a jumper hanging from a doorway in the infant room.
When I decided I couldn't wait any longer, as a courtesy I gave the owner 3 weeks notice that I'd be moving my kids to a different daycare. She and her daughter, the director, replied in a more extreme paranoid passive aggressive manor than I had seen before, but I wasn't surprised because they are incredibly unprofessional people and I had experienced milder versions of this in the past and also seen it in the way they had behaved towards other parents and how they speak badly of other parents. They said ok to my face, but within minutes left a message that we were not welcome back and they were reporting me to CPS. They did contact CPS and said that I abused and neglected my kids and thst they kicked me out of their daycare because of it. I was investigated and CPS concluded that the owner and director intentionally made a false report. I do not know what happened on their end and I don't care. I am relieved that my children are no longer in their care, and my only regret as a parent is leaving them there for so many months. It set back their development but my kids are quickly catching up.
I'm writing this review so that others don't have to go through the same thing. I would like to forget about My Big Brain, but they continue to send me messages that they are going to sue me if I say anything negative about them. Clearly if they are this paranoid, they must be doing things wrong and that's unfortunate. read more
