Normally, I dread going to the DMV more than getting a root canal. Typically, the attendants at the Camino Entrada office are surly and ill-mannered - and that's on a good day. They are so mean, they could make a hatemonger like Ann Coulter break down in tears. So, this time, I decided to go to MVD Express for my Real ID driver license update and my teenage daughter's Real ID provisional license. Despite not having the correct proofs of residency, the staff helped me for half an hour locate the proper state-mandated proofs of residency documents, and they did so with a genuine friendliness and patience that surprised me. I was able to bring up various documents from the cloud on my smartphone, and when I found the ones that the state would accept, the assistants at MVD Express provided an email address to mail them to so that they received them right away, saving me an hour round trip home and back as well as scanning and copying fees. Another plus: I never had to wait more than two minutes for someone to answer my many questions despite going back and forth from the desk to my chair. The office was well-staffed, and during the time I was there, people were assisted almost as soon as they walked through the door. The nicest one by far was Dima. At the end of a long day and workweek, she maintained a sunny disposition, and despite how long the process took to upload our documents, she chatted with us amiably and celebrated each document's successful submission with a cheerful "awesome!" She understood how stressful the whole Real ID process was, so her positive attitude made a big difference. About 45 minutes and $40 later, my daughter and I bade Dima farewell and left MVD Express with our temporary licenses and a smile. Getting your federal Real ID driver's license requires a lot of organization, preparation, and patience. And that's just the part BEFORE you get to the DMV. Make your experience a painless one rather than a traumatic one and skip the state DMV offices. Make a beeline for MVD Express instead. You'll be glad you did. It is more than worth the small fee to be treated with respect. read more

UNINFORMED UNTRAINED Here's why. subject: Out of State lic renewal to NM DL All was fine, but much time wasted, then I'm MISINFORMED by TWO 'supervisors' that I needed to do Driver and Written test AGAIN. WHY? answer from Express: I had gotten a NM ID 2 yrs ago, at which time I relinquished my out of state DL. NOT true!. I was never told by the Express that this would happen, and I still had my out of state DL ACTIVE or the Out of State MVD would have notified me it had been suspended. OR my insurance would have as they check that every year upon renewal. Told them that in no way that was going to be A) correct B) going to happen. They insisted it showed on their screens (unproven as it was not shown to me) that the State MVD required it. Told them to withdraw my info from the system and left. Went to State MVD, didn't even take long and I was helped by 2 very nice knowledgeable ladies and went thru the process without ANY issues. NOW: is the Express trying to get customers to do stuff so they can charge more as they are privately owned? OR should we all start going to the State run MVD? as I will in the future! as it was FASTER than all the time at the Express office!. I vote for the 2nd option. I'm told middle of the day hours at Official MVD (Camino Entrada) are the busy ones, so go there early and get thru fairly fast as I experienced and pay nothing additional as you do to the MVD express on St. Michael's. You've read the complaints of other reviewers. I also tried to reach the owner of MVDexpress to no avail. They answer but bamboozle you by wanting to know what is it about, put you on hold again and again until you get tired of it. I told the person I was NOT going to tell the story 2x and that if the owner was TOO big for a customer complaint, then that was a shame. TRAINING TRAINING TRAINING is missing in this business. Another note: Are the people that work there back ground checked, drug tested? since they deal with our private info. SSN, home addresses, DL & ID's? No lines, super-friendly and efficient people. Shoutout to Hever, who got me out of here in less than a half hour, new turquoise plate in hand. As a new resident of NM, I am very happy and extremely pleased with my experience at this place. ALL the sfaff is friendly, corteous and helpful. I was out in no time having all my documents updated from California where I would have been camping out for days before talking to anyone. Took my license, gave it back, took it again then gave it back, four and now five times, each time clerical errors. According to them at one point I had a slightly different name, was 4 inches taller and with a different hair color. No one knows what they're doing and no one will talk to you. Most are very rude. They don't communicate with the police and have there own rules independent of the police. Police can say you're great, but these guys can toss in their own rules (whatever they want, really) without informing anyone, police, driver, etc. Apparently to help "keep immigrants out." I was born and raised here. They also pick and choose what information to share with citizens regarding their situations. This has happened time and again, not just with me but many people. Former mayor already has a lawsuit against the MVD for their behavior, some of which may be illegal. If you have any kind of anxiety disorder, these folks can actually make it worse, even if you're not there. NOT kidding. read more

Not much of an express office. Arrived at 12:30pm to get an ID for grandson. Two hours later got the ID but the clerk put his dad's name on the ID instead of my grandson's name. Could have waited just as long at the main MVD and saved the $34 charge for a $10 ID. read more

One letter in the street name on my title looked like it might have been written with a different pen pressure - not noticeable until pointed out by the angry looking MVD employee I was going to register my new car with. Maybe the dealers pen had run out of ink and she had to use a new pen? Who knows.... Because of this one letter, that was still easily readable and did not change the title document into anything else but a title document, the MVD express employee told me I had to go back to the dealer with a NOTARIZED "AFFIDAVIT OF A MISTAKE" and start all over. Notarized! Because of one letter! No way, I thought and went instead to the normal, non express MVD in my neighborhood. And guess what? I got my registration and license plate two hours after I left the Express MVD with that ridiculous " affidavit of a mistake" stuffed in my purse. The mood in that place was miserable. The normal, non express MVD on Entrada Road is way more pleasant. The waiting is too short to get comfortable in a seat, friendly and helpful employees, too busy to get bent out of shape over one letter. I had a similar experience renewing my drivers license. Nothing but overwhelming hurdles at Express, but at the normal MVD, it went down in a smooth and professional matter, they took care of those problems instead of whining how impossible and difficult it will be. And all of this drama for $50 extra? I don't think so. read more

I have paid MVD Express's surcharge for years. What I am paying for, is to deal with people who are not rude and who have common sense, which I did not find at MVD in previous years. I went into the Express for an address change, prepared for Real ID requirements. I do not have the same name as on my birth certificate because I'm married. I dropped my middle name, made my maiden name my middle name, and took my husband's last name. This is the name on my marriage certificate, my social security card, and my previous driver's license. MVD's Real ID website says MVD will use the full legal name as listed on the marriage certificate. But Yesica, the clerk, would not do it. She said I wasn't "allowed to just randomly use my maiden name for a middle name." Said with mocking laughter. It was ok with the County Clerk who registered my marriage certificate, and with the Social Security Administration, and I don't think the use of my maiden name is exactly "random," but it wasn't ok with Yesica. Or any of the other staff who came over to see what was going on. I said I was not going to have a license that didn't match my other legal documents, and they told me I'd better go have my other documents changed! I worked this out with the help of the Director's Office at MVD. But if you are a woman who uses her maiden name as part of her married name, or has a hyphenated name, don't go to MVD Express because THAT'S NOT ALLOWED! Finally, I manage customer service staff. People in customer service have to have a heart to help people. I haven't interacted with anyone in MVD Express in Santa Fe who shows that desire to help. I'll save my money and go to MVD. read more

Don't waste your time at MVD Express on St. Michaels Dr in Santa Fe! I blame the owner (not polite staff) for this set of circumstances: Took 3 visits to this facility for a single title transfer.The 1st time (waited in line an hour) was turned away because my buyer was from out-of- state & told buyer must be physically present for title assignment or have power of attorney from buyer. (Never saw this rule on DMV website.) 2nd visit (waited in line 1 hour) turned away because copy not original POA. 3rd visit I waited 4 hours & they expected me to wait 6 hours (yes the staff will call you when a time slot becomes available but you only get 5 minutes to show up or they give your timeslot to next in line! This means you can't go too far from facility.) I arrived morning, stood in line 1 hr. for check-in desk for a documents review. Had all the docs I needed, told the wait would be 2-3 hrs. Left premises & returned 1hr 45 min later; stood in line (again)for 20 minutes to be told they could not get to me for another 2 -3 hours. Waited an hour (outside) & discovered a marquee (inside) had my name as 17th to get service. Waited in line again to be told another 2-3 hour wait. Gave up! This is no way to run a business, I'm driving to Albuquerque to try my luck there. read more

Went in today 2-13-19 counted 10 employees and only 2 waiting on people, another girl came in took 1/2 hr to set up then started talking to the only 2 people working talking about personal stuff slowing the process, I feel they should refund any charges because I can get that kind of bad service from the DMV, Second time in second time for the same experience, they need to hire a manager to crack the whip to provide express service. read more

I'm always disappointed by how long it takes and how much more the for profit MVD "Express" charges than the City's DMV. Went to register an out of state vehicle. Analisa tried to find excuse after excuse why she could not do her job. She needed the title, we produced the title. She wanted to see the vehicle, we explained it was out of state, but produced a VIN verification. She wanted a power of attorney, we produced a power of attorney. Then she said it wasn't filled out to HER satisfaction. She won....we walked out without a registration, and she didn't have to do her job. Rude, lazy, and very ineffective. We will go to the regular DMV and get the registration completed on Monday. Guess it's a win/win: Analisa doesn't have to work and we don't have to pay the "inconvenience" fee. After waiting an hour at the mvd express, the worker who talked to me was unclear, rude, and I believe didn't have a complete grasp of the requirements she was asking me to fulfill. The clerk Pam is the most rude person I have ever met. Rather than follow policy she makes arbitrary decisions and only after you confront her about it will she go to a manager. Also, the manager only seems to hire women. Is this because she is of a certain persuasion? It seems so. She was interviewing while I was there and only women were there. read more

Being new to town, I naively went in to the Saint Michael's MVD Express. I was unaware that each transaction cost $30, as it wasn't posted anywhere. I waited approximately 20 minutes in the waiting room. I had to register a 10' single axle trailer costing $12. I tried to cancel the transaction when I realized how much the "fee" was but I had to get the heck out of there by that time since I was hopping mad. Then, as it turns out, the number of the tag they put on the trailer plate didn't match the plate number. i had someone else's plate on my trailer! I had to sort it all out at the real MVD which wasn't nearly as bad as the MVD Express wants you to think it is. Thank God it wasn't the plate on my car! Try explaining that to the cops if pulled over. Thanks for nothing MVD Express. I want my "fee" back. read more

After 1.45 hours waiting at MVD express they told me they couldn't help me and sent me to the REAL MVD. I'm new to new Mexico and needed a drivers license, registration, and plates. I had been there 10 days before and waited an hour to be told I needed more documentation from Illinois. I obtained the documentation they requested, but now told they can't processes it...only the REAL MVD can. The real MVD did help me and in less than 30 minutes total. Don't waist your time with these people. You pay a premium for wasting your time and getting the run around! read more

It's pretty simple. I walked in, grabbed a ticket and had my license about 10 minutes later. An experience well worth the extra money.

We recently moved to Santa Fe from California and needed to get our licenses and vehicle registrations switched. The young woman who assisted us could not have been more knowledgeable, efficient and FUN! I'm not absolutely sure of her name (Camina??) because I am getting old and forgetful, but it is rare to find a person who works with the public (many of whom often at their worst - including one during our visit) who can make you feel so great during and after the appointment. Plus it doesn't hurt that the license and registration fees in NM are about half that of California. read more

Walked in without an appointment because it's supposed to be faster than the regular mvd. NOPE. Gave my name to the clerk and reason for being there, she puts my name on the list and asks me to sit down. I take a look around at the other people there, about 6 other people are also waiting. I notice there are more people filing in, also putting their name on the list and stating the reason they are there. One by one the people in front of me are helped, I realize I'm next. Then the girl asks the person AFTER me. Hmm, ok. No big deal, I can wait for one more person. The clerk just must have made a mistake. NOPE. She calls the second person that came in after me. Then a THIRD PERSON. I'm sitting there looking at her before I realize there's no FREAKING WAY I'm going to pay them an extra $30 PER TRANSACTION to have them skip me in line, 3 times, and they aren't even going fast. Express?? NOPE!!! I had already waited for one hour. Save yourself the trouble and just go to the regular place that doesn't charge you extra to be treated like crap and you'll end up wait the same amount of time anyway. Love an express DMV!! I had to get a NM drivers license and checked the "real wait time" online before heading over. It's accurate because I had to wait about 5 min before I got started. Yes you pay a premium ($30) but it's worth it!! You take a quick picture, fill out 2 forms and then you're out -- I was there for 20 min total. The employees were friendly as well so that was a bonus. I really recommend this place! read more

They provide you wrong information which requires driving back and forth from their business to one's office getting what is needed, and then put you back on the bottom of the list when you arrive back, requiring one to wait for another hour. Soooo rude. I only ever go to this place because I can't make it to the regular mvd with my work schedule. Always, always rude staff who hassle and haggle with you over paperwork. This time I went to renew my drivers license. Couldn't find my birth certificate so I planned to just renew the driver permit card. Had all my documents and proofs of address ready. Lady literally rolled her eyes and sighed when I said I wanted a driving card rather than a REAL ID. Proceeded to chastise me and tell me multiple times that my bank wouldn't accept the driver's card I was getting and that I would need to "prove" my citizenship by 2020. Wtf? I needed a driving card. I have been to the MVD Express in Santa Fe on three different occasions in the last year. EVERY time, I was told something different from what their website states and had to come back! Ridiculous!!!!!! And there is no such thing as "EXPRESS" there ever! Always a long wait! And you get to pay quite a bit of extra money for that "convenience!" What a joke!!!!! When I went to register my vehicle a few months ago, after waiting at least 45 minutes, they said I was missing a certain document. So I came back with that document the next day (after waiting forever again!), and they said I was missing ANOTHER document -- after the clerk thoroughly looked over all of my paperwork the previous day and assured me that it was all I was missing. I have to change my DL to NM so I looked on their website to see what documents I need for this transaction. It states that you need your current DL, an original SS card, and 2 forms of proof of your NM residence (no specific details as to what type of documents). I went there today with all of this info including proof of insurance and registration. They stated that one of the two documents that I had with my new NM address on it was not acceptable... a recent bill from my credit card company (to accompany my paycheck stub with new address). Again, I explained that no where on their website does it state that certain documents are not acceptable. Again, I have to go back after I find another document with my NM address on it. The myth of corporate efficiency---I notice that this place had better reviews several years ago, the last time I dealt with them. I went in with all the onerous paperwork to renew my driver's license and was told it would take about half an hour to be called. Half an hour later I was still sixth in line, so I gave up. They need to change their advertising, as there is nothing "express" about this place. I will drive to a rural area MVD, as it's a better use of my time. read more

Made a reservation online for Friday and was seen promptly and details, eye test and photo taken quickly for a renew drivers license application which took about 20 minutes. But Then their system went down and suggested come back Monday. The processing agent said I would be seen immediately when came back but did not happen I was put at the bottom of the priority list and waited another 30mins + another 15mins further processing. read more

Absolutely worst service in Santa Fe EVER!!!! For one, there is nothing 'express' about them; I've had faster service at the regular MVD. When I tried to register one of my cars there, I had to return there several times with different paperwork. Each person had a different opinion on which paperwork I needed. Rather than giving me a list of all I needed, they told me one thing, I'd return with that one thing, and then they'd tell me I also needed.... Second time I had to register another car there, they requested a title and when it was sent to them, they lost it and denied it! It took 4 months for them to communicate with Toyota and get their act together to receive the new title!!!! When they finally had it, they charged me their fee of $31.50 three times (1) requesting the title, 2) registering car, 3) vehicle inspection - snuck that one in there when you'd figure one visit, one fee). They are shiesty. The people there are rude and the wait is always at least 45 minutes. I really don't see why anyone would bother to go to them, get worse service, wait longer, and pay more. read more
