Waiting on line
Jeannette L.

We went to the Paramus Vehicle Inspection Station last week. This was our first time here and I think this will be where we go from now on. The line went quickly and the technician who inspected our car was so friendly and nice. Exceeded expectations as I thought we would be waiting for a while. Pleasantly surprised how efficient and quick it all was here... Recommended!

This was absolutely amazing! This is solely just an inspection station and they're SUPER fast! Unlike the one in Lodi. I promise you, you will love coming here compared to other MVCs. The staff are even nice, too

I had to give a 5 star review, because of how fast I was in and out. If anyone has been driving as long as I have (or longer) knows the DMV and Inspection Stations are an all day event and can be a nightmare. Boyyyy have things changed! I came in on a Saturday late morning, an hour and half before they closed, and I was in and out within 15 minutes! Yes, FIFTEEN MINUTES!!! What a world of a difference from many years ago. Plus, the attendant I had was very quick and thorough. What more can you ask for?!?!

Such a vast difference and MUCH, MUCH easier experience than the NY vehicle inspection process. I had to get a vehicle inspection for the 1st time in NJ and wasn't sure what to expect when I visited the Paramus Vehicle Inspection Station, but it exceeded my expectations by a mile. Since my vehicle was relatively new (less than 5 years old), I didn't have to go through the typical inspection process, but instead just drive my car up to the "Manager's Office" and got my new NJ inspection sticker added to my windshield. As to how the process went....I decided to go get my new inspection sticker on a Wednesday (no appointment required) and rolled in at around 1pm. There were barely any cars there to get an inspection. I searched for the "Manager's Office" and, unbeknownst to me, it was actually just a little car port with a booth to drive up to (hence my quotes). Luckily, I was able to track down an employee who was just walking away from the booth and he provided me instructions to drive my car up to the booth. Within 2-3 minutes, I was done! I literally backed my car up into the car port, handed my new registration over to the employee and he scrapped off my NY inspection sticker and stuck my new NJ inspection sticker on. That's it! Free of charge! It was THAT easy! Of course, if I needed an actual inspection, the process might have been a bit longer, but from the looks of past reviews, it seems like it is just as smooth of a process. And mind you, the employee was friendly and informative of when I needed to get an inspection again. Simply put, this was probably the best "inspection" I ever had and I'm hoping future inspections will be just as...well...simple!

New hours inspection station is open.

In fact, this was the BEST experience I've ever had with the NJ MVC. I usually go to the Lodi location, but I had to go to this one for a vehicle registration renewal. Appointments are REQUIRED. No walk-ins. Schedule an appointment online as soon as you can because slots fill up quickly. My appointment was for 9:25AM on a Monday. I was expecting long lines with horrendous wait times. Boy, I was wrong. I arrived half an hour early and finished in SEVEN MINUTES. I was shook! The process was simple. I walked in, checked in with my appointment, showed proof of ID, handed in my renewal application, paid, and then left. All in 7 minutes. Every single employee was patient and pleasant. No one was rude or grumpy. I know they're notorious for being rude, but sometimes I can't blame them because they deal with, uh.... some interesting characters. Tips? Read the MVC website. Some services can be done online and some require an in-person visit. Make sure you have ALLLLLL of the required documents before your visit, so there's no surprises. Print and fill out forms beforehand. Come prepared. EXTRA prepared. Don't be one of those people who complain about the MVC when you clearly came unprepared because you couldn't bother to read. LOL Thank yaaaaaaaaaaaa!

While the employees are still paid not to smile, the pace of work seems downright snappy compared to the days of full state control when the employees seemed chained to their oars and lethargy was the word of the day. Once you get to the entrance, a person will ask you why you are there, and give you a form to fill out (you can't bring guests - only people who have business to be done can enter). You will walk up the stairs to the second floor. There will be signs for you to go to reception. On the way, there are tables and pens for you to fill out the form you received when entering the building. Take your form and 6 points worth of documents, and continue to the reception windows. Reception will check your docs, and then give you a sticker with a number (that's your queue order). Some start with Bs, some start with Ns, and mine started with a Y (I had a pre-registered online appointment). Go to the waiting area, and then wait for them to call your number, and which window to go to. All in all, it took me 20-25 mins (I suggest you make an appointment ahead of time).

Then by the time I was second in line, an employee came around handing out forms. I didn't have mine filled out between being second and being first, and the lady who called at me was pretty mean my form, that I had no indication I needed and no way to get one without being handed one which I just was, was holding up her line. So I stepped aside, filled it out, but luckily I didn't have to wait in the line again. Also, the fact they are still using this paper system seems archaic. After I got passed the first obstacle, I was given a number, presented my proof of address/other IDs, then I waited to go to another counter where the third person put the information in. Overall it was about a half an hour, and I do recommend coming a little early because the first line took the longest. The Real ID booking appointment process was its own headache, but that's not this location's doing. It's also annoying to not get the ID in person, but that also seems statewide. The whole process could be better, but this place got the job down even if it wasn't as efficient or friendly as it could be.
