I'm sharing our experience with Muñoz Auto Repair so that others can make an informed decision and because we are still trying to understand how to proceed.
My husband took his car to Muñoz Auto Repair at 11006 Santa Gertrudes Avenue, Whittier, CA 90604 for several services, including a transmission fluid change, oil change, and brake service.
About two weeks after these services were completed, the vehicle began experiencing serious transmission issues. The car would not accelerate properly and started shaking. The situation became serious enough that we had to have the vehicle towed to Toyota for diagnostics and repairs.
After Toyota inspected the vehicle, we were told that the transmission issues appeared to be related to the transmission fluid that had been used. We were then faced with the extremely expensive cost of replacing the transmission, on top of the money we had already paid Muñoz Auto Repair for the original services.
After the vehicle was repaired and we paid for everything, we returned to Muñoz Auto Repair hoping to have a calm and respectful conversation with the owner. We brought our receipts and documentation because we simply wanted to discuss what happened and whether there was any responsibility for the damage and the significant financial costs we had incurred.
Unfortunately, the conversation did not go well. The owner became very defensive and confrontational. My husband remained calm throughout the conversation, but we were accused of trying to take advantage of him. The owner also told us, in Spanish, that we were basically trying to "fuck him over." We found that extremely upsetting and unprofessional, especially because we were simply trying to understand what happened and discuss a very expensive repair that occurred shortly after their service.
What is especially frustrating is that this shop advertises and performs transmission fluid services, and we trusted them as professionals to complete the service correctly. Instead, we ended up dealing with major transmission problems and a very expensive repair bill shortly afterward. When we attempted to address our concerns directly and respectfully, we felt completely dismissed.
We have receipts and documentation from the original service, the Toyota diagnostics, and the repairs. This review is based on our personal experience, and I encourage anyone considering this shop to keep detailed records of all services and get a second opinion if any issues arise afterward.
We are still looking into our options regarding how to proceed, but based on our experience, we unfortunately cannot recommend this shop. read more
