In 1852 in England, William Booth and his wife Catherine were inspired by the gospel of Jesus…read moreChrist to leave the church and take their ministry to the streets. They abandoned the concept of the traditional church pulpit in favor of preaching directly to the people most in need. Despite the disapproval of the church, Booth took his ministry to the poor, homeless, hungry, and destitute. After training evangelists all over England, the couple returned to the west end of London in 1875 and formed their organization, the Christian Mission. In 1878 while reading the annual report for the Christian Mission he noticed the phrase "The Christian Mission is a volunteer army." William Booth crossed out volunteer army and replaced it with salvation army. From then on converts became soldiers of Christ or Salvationists. The groups message spread quickly and today they serve over 100 countries. The Salvation Army has churches throughout the world called Salvation Army corps but they are probably best known for their thrift stores. When items are purchased at the stores the money supports the Salvation Army's emergency relief efforts and programs. Unlike a lot of businesses the Salvation Army will hire ex felons. Some of the shops support the Adult Rehabilitation Centers which help people combat addiction. When you donate to or buy from the Salvation Army you are helping to support many worthwhile programs. I discovered this Salvation Army store while driving through Pembroke Pines. It used to be a Rooms to Go and the large size of the building caught my eye. As an avid thrifter I am always up to exploring a new store and this location was busy on a Saturday afternoon. Inside was one of the nicest Salvation Army stores I have ever been in South Florida although it still had that distinctive musty odor if you know what I mean. In the front of the store you will find large pieces of furniture like sofas, desks, and tables. Towards the back of the store are racks upon racks of clothes all organized by color and type. The amount of clothes was truly astounding. I feel like they could clothe the entire city of Pembroke Pines. Rounding out the inventory are accessories, home goods, toys, and books. If you were starting out in your first apartment you could get most of what you need here. Some of the things I picked up weren't in the best condition as they were broken or chipped. Take the time to really examine every item before you purchase. That said, if you ae a bargain hunter you will be in your element.

A decent store. I personally did not like the lay out of the household section. I found it itty…read morebitty and hard to navigate. I would not go out of my way to visit again.

One of the reasons I love Tiktok is because I get great ideas on new places to visit. I saw a clip…read moreon cool places to check out yesterday and realized this spot was only 15 minutes from my house so I decided to go today. They have the latest vintage fashions with tons of different categories and sizes. This is a decent size warehouse located in Hialeah Gardens, FL. Easy to find and not far from the Palmetto Hwy. They have many bins full of all types of clothing ranging from $3 - $15 for most items. They also have several racks of hanging clothing with price tags ranging from $10 - $40+. They also have accessories like hats, shoes, belts, and more. I was happy to see they have a vintage comic book selection as well. I liked the vintage decor and openness of this place. Open, airy and laid back. There is also plenty of free parking. They offer dressing room areas, bathrooms and a member discount for being a repeat customer. You can purchase vintage and retro clothing in bulk or by the piece. You'll love this place if you grew up shopping Salvation Army and Goodwill. I bought some comic books (4) as a gift for my nephew and a sesshomaru vintage tie dye tee for myself. I paid a total of $25. Not bad. My husband pointed out the large strobe lights around the ceiling area along with a big disco ball in the center of the ceiling stating "I think this place turns into a club at night." Intrigued, I asked the guy working there and he confirmed that starting in January, it will be a hang out spot with music & food vendors. I enjoyed my visit and glad I came here today. Check them out if you're in the south Florida area.

My FAVORITE thrift/consignment shop hands down! The owner is a freaking doll, so obviously her…read moreemployees are too. She is hilarious, interesting to talk to, and clearly loves what she is doing. I always find the coolest and most interesting things here. My younger sister always manages to find her unicorn pieces here. She has somehow found her ceramic jars in odd shapes (a walnut, a peanut, a strawberry, etc.) here. She will only purchase if: they're from a thrift store, if it's hand made, and lastly if it's a certain size and shape. That's pretty freaking specific and we don't come here every weekend. I call that destiny my friend. The owner has that eye for "weird" and "interesting" and I promise you, you'll never leave empty-handed because of it! I drive from Miami, specifically the downtown area and I will continue to do so. It is always worth the trip. I also got both of my sister's hooked, along with all of our spouses. If you're in the area, or not anywhere even close, stop on by or plan a trip. At the very least you'll leave with having had a great interaction and a smile! I also have to briefly mention that I broke a cup here. I NEVER break anything. I'm not just saying that. I truly never ever break anything in a store. I could not have felt more like trash at that moment. Let me tell ya, the employee never once made me feel bad or less than. She said accidents happen and kindly suggested I use a basket next time (I always use a basket, my freaking husband set me up by asking me to hold his dumb plate). Please don't be like me and break something here, but please also know that humans with empathy work here. Had that experience gone any other way, I probably wouldn't have ever returned from the sheer embarrassment. Im so grateful I'm able to come back and show my face. And for curiosity, no I don't hold ANYTHING in my arms anymore lol. This shop has relocated and used to be called "Find it! Thrift it!" but it's definitely the same store with the same awesome. I haven't gotten a chance to stop in yet, but from the pictures it looks bigger so that means even more stuff! YES!

This is a cute brand new thrift store located in the Bowery Plaza on University Dr in Lauderhill…read more The sign overhead still says Boutique Stylistique but you will see Flip Side on the door. I enjoyed peeking through their large room and smaller back rooms of furniture, small appliances, household items, books, clothes, art, and accessories. They sell vintage and antique items with some modern things thrown in. My favorite area was the adorable kitchen room. You could practically see a grandma standing there baking a pie. If had enough space, I would have scooped up those sweet ceramic vegetable trinket boxes. Everything was actively arranged and clearly priced. Take your time and look closely. There are a lot of cool things to see and prices can be negotiated. The Flip Side has another store in Ft. Lauderdale on Cypress Creek Road in Ft. Lauderdale. I always love supporting a small businesses and especially thrift stores. Help the planet by reducing, recycling, and reusing by thrifting!
