Noodles are quite al dente and very oily, and the chicken is over cooked and very dry. The sauce has a good flavor. Bong bong chicken comes w tasty veggies. It is not at all spicy, which disappoints. Otherwise is was flavorful with strong garlic flavor. The new location isn't insulated well! We are seated near doors to outside, and a cold draft comes straight to us. I remember the day that this place opened and over the decades their food hasn't improved. Recently tried it and had the bong bong chicken and I was really unimpressed. It lacked a lot of flavor and it just for some reason I had a very oily greasy taste to it. I'm just not impressed at all with this place anymore. Service was nice, but prices are yikes and the ambience of the place needs some major updating. I think it just appears to be the same that it's been for decades. A great place to get some Asian Cuisine! They have a limited menu but it's the best Asian dishes according to my taste that is. We've been here many times in years past and they've never failed to have good quality food. This the first time I came to their new restaurant since I've been gone several years now. I had the mushroom chicken and it was delicious! I'd recommend the white rice rather than the mustard seed only because I'm not big on margarine they used to cook it with. We ordered the Lettuce cups appetizer and the veggie spring rolls. Both were excellent with a little spice to the spring rolls. Service was great! Noah did awesome! We went today to celebrate our 57th wedding anniversary. As usual, the food was delicious. I had Chicken Osaka, my favorite. The only two complaints, sort of, that I have is the atmosphere isn't comfortable. It's pretty austere. I felt more comfortable in the space they had in the mall prior to this location. Also, the food comes out luke warm and by the time I'm half way through, it's cold. They need to put the plates in a warming oven like many restaurants do. probably a 3.5 but quite an improvement from my last two attempts. This time we went at 4pm for happy hour snacks and ordered dinner takeout to eat at home. The place wasn't crowded so we sat ourselves in the bar. Server was attentive and pleasant, waters, menu's right away. Interestingly we had to ask for happy hour menu's. I've had several places do that--reserve the HH menu for those in "the know". HH beers and wine was a good deal. My wifes gin and tonic was a pint glass of tonic so way too weak--she had to get an xtra shot of gin to make it "real". Apps included chicken wings-4 of 5(very good); gyoza-2 of 5 (fair) and non HH app was shrimp dynamite -5 of 5 (tasty)--but small for the price. Their "rib machine" was out of order or we would have gotten the asian ribs also--excellent in the past. Our to-go dinner was green beans (5 of 5-excellent as always), chicken osaka (4 of 5 due to a little dry and needed more sauce--my son insists it's excellent as a dine in item); also the thai ckn coconut curry noodle bowl-4 of 5--again the ckn was a bit dry but the sauce was excellent--probably a bit better dine in vs take out read more

I don't know what the negative reviews are all about, all I can say is that our visit was great. My wife had Halibut and rice, I had a wonderful noodle bowl with shrimp and fresh veggies, a nice bit of coconut milk and spice sauce. Service was great, food was absolutely delicious. The only thing I can say negatively, and it's not a big deal, was that a few hours after the meal I let the raunchiest farts that I'd had since they stopped making Old Style Beer in LaCrosse, WI. The appetizers were great we had some lettuce wrap and some crab Rangoon's which hit the spot. Might just be the classiest place in Missoula. My parents are from Montana but we've lived in Washington state our my whole life. After retirement, my parents traveled to MT frequently and Mustard Seed quickly became my dad's favorite restaurant. I'd heard a lot about it but had yet to experience it for myself when low and behold my work took my wife and I to Missoula! We stopped in for lunch and I was pretty impressed. The place is large and can accommodate a lot of people but the staff was very friendly and took good care of us. The food was delicious and even though we didn't care much for their sweet & sour sauce, you can tell they probably make it from scratch. Beware of the hot mustard though. We like it hot and it melted our faces. Go sparingly until you gain a little repertoire with it. Our food was served hot and we had zero complaints about anything during our visit. They even have a nice size bar where you can watch sports and other good stuff. I highly recommend Mustard Seed if you're in the Missoula area and I noticed the other day that they may have a location in Spokane WA too. I'll be visiting that one soon if that is the case. I am going to be biased with this review because I have so many good memories of eating at the original Mustard Seed. Since then, nothing but disappointment after the move to the South Gate Mall area under new ownership. Many of the dishes kept the old names, but that is where the similarity ends. I was in a hurry yesterday, hungry, and saw the new building near the Mall. Regrets, just regrets that I ate there. I had the Maui Chicken lunch bowl. The sauce was gluey and sour (no sweet), the chunks of chicken were large, tough, stringy, and some tasted like they were going off. Two stars because the server was so pleasant, wish I could remember her name but she was working the bar area, check #70. Accolades to her. read more
