My oldest has been taking piano lessons there for 6 years now and only ever has good things to say about both the lessons and instructor. I now also have my youngest starting drum lessons and can't believe the smile that's plastered on his face at the end of each lesson. This is a kid who'd prefer to play video games more than anything so it's like he's a different person once he goes to his lessons. The instructors live and breathe music and you can always tell how much they enjoy sharing their love of music by the way they talk to you about lessons, music history, performances, etc. Many, if not all, have degrees related to music and come with years of experience performing and teaching. Some even continue performing locally and internationally throughout the year while teaching at TML. In other words, taking lessons here all but guarantees that the instructor is qualified educationally along with performance experience that backs up their instructional knowledge. The owners and admin staff are the nicest and most personable people you can interact with for a busy music studio. I've always appreciated their willingness to help whenever I need a schedule modification or with any other logistical issue I might have. These folks will treat you like family from day one and are always quick to respond kindly. They do provide a free trial lesson with zero pressure to sign up. My son did a trial piano lesson several years ago but it wasn't for him so we didn't push and TML understood that. They're not the type of business to convince you to take lessons if music or a specific instrument isn't for you (or your child). They're worth a try especially if you're on the fence about starting lessons.

At the end of just one week I was amazed at how much he learned; they had a presentation showing the parents what the kids did during the week and demonstrate the new acquired knowledge. Singing, playing simple songs on ukulele, simple key notes on the piano, naming so many musical instruments, role playing, painting and doing art projects...I am sure I missed something but the point is that there was a lot of learning done in a fun way in just a week. The idea of ear plugs for his sensitive ears. Picking out songs he likes so he can learn them with other kids. His teacher is great! And he is really enjoying it! The lessons are twice a week so it keeps drumming in his head. It feels like he is on his way to be in a kid band instead of stuck in a sound proof room playing patterns. I don't understand this place. I got an initial call back to discuss how the place works, but then…read morescheduling a trial lesson was like pulling teeth-- calling, emailing, finally texting. Took forever. Got to the trial lesson only to be told the person we'd worked so hard to get wasn't available so it's with so-and-so. Uh. Fine, but we picked the other person for a reason. And booked another trial with the original teacher, only to get to THAT lesson and realize it's still not the instructor we'd been aiming for. While sitting during the lesson, another student walked in and was told "oh so-and-so is no longer with us so this other person will be your teacher today." What? So you're not told ahead of time? (The mom asked when they'd known this teacher was leaving and it was two weeks prior, but they didn't bother to give anyone notice.) I find it strange that you pay in advance for these situations. Anyway. It's too poorly managed for me, which is too bad because it is certainly a great concept.

One male teacher made my 12yo daughter feel so uncomfortable that we had to end the lessons. Another would just forget to come sometimes. The value is limited because their policy around rescheduling is so restrictive, even while their own instructors regularly move or cancel sessions. So if your child is sick or you travel or there is an emergency, you will still pay for the lesson. Even though it is convenient to have lessons in your home, the instructors weren't good enough to make this worth it over time.
