I am a semi-experienced choral singer (baritone) having sung in junior and HS choirs and now, with the Nat'l Phil. Chorale or 4 seasons. Before I took lessons I had a lot of trouble getting much above a middle C. I took 3.5 years of lessons from Aurelius (Rex) and would highly recommend him. In that time I learned lots about breath support, voice placement (ping, singing forward etc.) , diction, audiation (verbalizing) and many other things. I never thought it possible but I am easily able to sing up a whole 4th now, clearly and without straining. Rex is also a heckuva nice guy and the lessons were always very positive and fun. I have to say that when singing things like Bach Bm mass with lots of tricky passage above middle C I can totally handle it. Ditto for those screamy high F passages in Beethoven 9. With all the technique he gave me my voice never wears out even after 3 hour rehearsals. Every time I sing those types of passages I thank Rex! Rex also has a tremendous repertoire so he can always find something to sing that suits your taste and skill level. I felt he always gave me appropriate repertoire such as Mozart operas (Don Giovanni and Marriage of Figaro come to mind). He was also a very good source information on solos to sing for church. His wife is also a very good teacher and I always learned a lot from the workshops that they held to critique each other's students. Grace and Rex Gori are not only dedicated and outstanding teachers but wonderful performers. As a result, Gori Voice Studios can provide expert instruction to novice and veteran vocalists alike. My boys are a prime example. Both came to Rex at the end of their freshman years in high school -- one, a tenor, with a passion for vocal music and performance and several years of ensemble singing under his belt; the other, a saxophone player with no vocal music experience. Rex took both to places vocally that neither they nor I could have imagined them reaching. Rex's emphasis on strengthening the body systems that support one's ability to sing allowed my sons to develop their voices and vocal technique and avoid overuse and injury (not uncommon among their peers -- high school students who sang in multiple choirs and took part in musical theater productions). His knowledge of both classical and musical-theater repertoire was invaluable to my oldest, who routinely auditioned. I first met Dr AureliusGori at Frederick Comm College in January 2004. He was my professor for "Class Voice" He had an amazing ability to convince all 24 of the students in that class that we could all sing. He shared simple mechanical techniques and a kind and convincing manner to help each of us to relax an bring the best we had to give. He is more than knowledgeable, more than professional; he is in fact a master in the art of instruction. He has since then taught a Saturday seminar at our church for a small contemporary music group, and was excellent in his diagnosis and approach to helping us be better in our service.
