Came for Free Friday Denver Museum night. They have space for temporary exhibits and a permanent space. The temporary exhibit was "Migrants: A Tale of Two Hearts". Very thought-provoking with photos, videos and personal items left behind when crossing into the U.S. A floor display was very interesting. It showed abandoned sneakers all oriented in one direction over a bed of leaves. The permanent space had a scale model of the Pyramid of the Magician in Uxmal, Yucatan Mexico built by the WPA in 1930. Additional information regarding cultures in from Mexico they Latin America and into South America. I went to the Denver Art Musemn and History Colorado for my other free visits tonight. read more

So glad I made it in here! I had missed the day of the dead festivities around town! This is one of the day of the dead altars. I was just walking around here on Santa Fe saw this vibrant museum storefront and it drew me in. The exhibits were so refreshing and inspiring, vibrant, modern and informative. I felt like I experienced a lot of the culture across time and geography in a brief 30 minutes. I really enjoyed the variety of mediums, textiles, sounds and images. The pieces of ancient culture and geography and religion were evenly incorporated into this vibrant exhibit. I love the South American culture in Denver. It is very present with activities year round! read more

Wow, we were so disappointed with this museum. Based on the rave Yelp reviews we planned a whole afternoon around it. After paying, and I can't believe we paid for this, we toured some pretty mediocre art and some old religious pieces. Actually, the nicest piece in the museum, a great sculpture was unceremoniously located at the back near the bathroom. We were in and out of here in maybe 20 minutes. I got some cute pins in their gift shop but this museum was totally not worth it for the art. You can see better art in the galleries here for free and the street art in this neighborhood is amazing- way better than any art we saw. Maybe we just came at a bad time but we were seriously underwhelmed. It looks so promising from outside but it was basically just a few rooms. read more

I read a list of museums that are fabulous in Denver but not always visited. This museum was on that list so the hubs and I came the first available Saturday we had. It's a small museum but offers a pretty good range of traditional to contemporary Latin art forms and themes. The museum is small enough that they have a binder of all the artists bios which I really appreciated. The contemporary art was intriguing and I liked knowing the artists vision and a glimpse of their background in creating their piece. The entry fee was $4 per person and with reading all the labels and bios took us a little over half an hour. Well worth the time! read more

I went to the museum for an event and loved it! I really enjoy how their are is truly telling the latin america study through Latin American's artist. The staff is super helpful and informative. If you are looking for a different experience and to see the latin American history from other eyes, this is the place to go! read more

It's been a while since I've gone to a museum and had an emotional response to the work. Very captivating and it's definitely a must when in Denver. They also have a very nice gift shop with original pieces from the artist. Support great art! read more

I went on a Saturday afternoon. Lovely displays! They have a written activity sheet they give out to kids when you come in and it makes it interesting for children. It's a small museum so it's easy to include as part of your day. The shop has really nice art and souvenirs. The area is popular with art and art galleries and has great restaurants and coffeeshops right around the corner. read more

Neat little museum-- we saw the current exhibit Testigos featuring larger-than-life portraits printed on special amate paper made by the Otomí community in Mexico. Insightful piece complemented by a video showing the process of making the paper. The space isn't large, but very well utilized! read more

This is a nice little museum of Latin American art, the exhibits that were on display during my visit was one that focused on old world Hispanic religious customs and practices. It was interesting to see how some people still perform self-flagellation (hitting one self with a whip or rod as a form of religious penance). Came here for a free day and am glad it was free! This is a very small museum, and I guess I was expecting more from all I have heard about this place! Plus, being from the East coast and having access to some amazing art museums, and even out here in NM...I don't think this museum had very much to offer. They had some cool installations that were made there-one of a rat race, another with nails on a wall. Their permanent collection seemed very fake and stale to me. If one wants to see collections of Aztec and South American art, there are much better places out there. The staff invited everyone but myself to make something in the back of the gallery. So sad...I even showered today! The gift shop had some cool items you could give as gifts. read more

This museum is free every second Saturday of the month and every first Friday (but it's only $4 every other day). It is open during the Santa Fe Art Walk and is all about art. I've seen a few shows here and have been impressed each time. One show featured an artist who used only chocolate syrup on white paper, another was an installation using cardboard and styrofoam you had to walk through to get in. The last one I went to was about street art and had a great video to support it. The free days usually involve music or some sort of entertainment and sometimes they have a bar (but absolutely will not let you walk out on the street with your drink like the galleries do). But hey, it's worth it! read more

This is a nice small museum on the Santa Fe First Friday walk. I went in November 08 and the art was, well, graphic, maybe even a little morbid. But, it was really interesting that all the art was permanent installation. The artists had to create their pieces there in the museum. They weren't your standard paintings that you move from wall to wall. So, that was pretty neat. Parking here sucks and is extremely sketchy. I'd definitely recommend the bus. I've never been in this area and not seen cars that had been broken into (smashed windows). Once a month they do a Spanish Wine Tasting where everyone mixes & mingles while speaking spanish, checking out the art and downing a few beverages. It's a pretty cool event. Wish I spoke spanish :) For $5, it's definitely worth checking out. Just be careful where you park. The Ethiopian place, Arada, across the street is fantastic and would make a great combo with this place for a nice night out. read more

I love this place! No disrespect to other reviewers, but I too am from the East, and moved here from San Francisco. I've seen some of the greatest museums the U.S. has to offer. And I LOVE the Museo. Super friendly and helpful staff -- I went on a slow day and get essentially a hand guided tour. The art as well was truly enjoyable, and from everything I can tell this museum is a great part of the community and has been around for a while -- 20 plus years I believe. Yes yes yes it's small. But I think that's ok. As I used to tell my 4' 8" grandmother when I was 8 and taller than her, 'good things come in small packages'. If you're kicking it in the Santa Fe Arts District area, don't miss this one. It doesn't take too long, isn't that expensive, and is really wonderful Take THAT Guggenheim! read more

This museum will always be one of my favorite places in Denver. Since coming here the first time over ten years ago with my AP Spanish class, Museo has never failed to delight me. Their exhibits vary a great deal, from surrealist artist Daniel Luna, to thought provoking political exhibits about Immigration and Detention Centers, to their current exhibit a historical exhibit all about Asia's influence on the America's during the early conquest years. Do be aware though that the museum is rather small; however the price is cheap, and since it is a non-profit community museum, anyone who can't pay can always visit for free. It is also nice to know that the money I spend at the museum helps kiddos in the surrounding community receive a free arts summer camp and art workshops at their schools. The best piece of advice when visiting this museum though is to always ask a staff member a question about the exhibit, even if it is as simple as "What is your favorite piece of art?" Take advantage of the small size of the museum to ask questions and it will elevate what may seem like a very simple exhibit to a whole new level. And you will be amazed at just how knowledgeable and friendly the staff is. Overall well worth the time and the few bucks you will spend. You will always leave this place knowing something new and feeling good knowing that you helped support art education for kids. P.S. Always check the exhibit online first if you are taking young children, some are very kid friendly, while others are more suited towards adults. read more

I went to see the La Cocina exhibit for a college class field trip. i wasn't sure want to expect but when i arrived I was presently surprised. We had a lovely young tour girl who guided us through the La Cocina exhibit. She was very informative and helped us set a mood and background for all the featured pieces in the exhibit. I discovered many things in the Hispanic culture that i did not know about that I found fascinating such as the bruñido style. I would have never gone to this museum if it wasn't for my course that I was taking but it was totally worth the journey. I would definitely check it out if you are looking for something interesting to do. Wonderful guided tours! read more

Consider me a fan of Museo. It is a much need respite from the cluttered collection of bohemian galleries along Santa Fe. Not that I dislike those galleries, but it is nice to have something fresh, that is also well curated and presented in well designed gallery space. In addition, it is great to have places like Museo that are rooted in the community's Chicano roots - rather than a continuous onslaught of gentrification. Currently, they have a delightful exhibit that reinterprets the art of Mexican la loteria. The pieces are colorful, whimisical, and well presented. read more

For a small museum this takes the cake for inovative art, Spanish happy hour every 3rd Friday,kids FREE day every second Saturday, and of course a hoppin' First Friday crowd. Oh, and every Friday is now FREE thanks to American Family Insurance! Target sponsers the free kids day where the family can go and make some art together, have some snacks and bond without stress. Spanish Happy Hour is sponsered by Coors and Cafe Roja (great mexican food on Santa Fe and 8th) and THE place to practice your Spanish with native speakers every 3rd Friday. After a couple of beers, we can all speak Spanish... Admission is only $4.00 and memberships starts at $30.00. The ongoing exhibit 'Fineline' is a thought provoking, visual experience. The Museo, founded in 1992, is the only museum on Santa Fe Drive amid all the great 'art for sale' and needs the communities support, so stop by next time you are in the 'Hood. read more

This is a really small museum, but so neat. I came here for an event, and it was perfect for their needs. You could wander through the rooms and still hear the musician playing. It's right along the Santa Fe Art District, so swing by while you're wandering around town. read more

I wish I could say that I was able to experience the museum, however, my daughter and I attempted to visit the museum today and we awkwardly stood at the counter at the insurance for about 10 minutes before I just felt uncomfortable and decided to leave. I had purchased a Groupon and was hoping to use it and had driven from 30 miles away; needless to say I ended up spending more than the Groupon was worth on gas and then I had to disappoint my little girl because nobody ever came to help us. I usually would let something like this go but there were three women in what appeared to be an administrative office that were well aware of our presence and never came to greet us. It's a shame, however, I do not believe that I will be revisiting this museum. read more
