I estimate I lost about $25,000 by deciding to have Muse manage my rental property. Over the six years I was with them, all three of the tenants they had supposedly vetted, simply stopped paying and/or trashed my house. After realizing in year three how much money I'd lost up until that point (only $11,000 then), I tried to fire them, only to learn that, due to shady contract language, I had to boot out the current tenant in order to get rid of Muse also. Knowing what I know now, I should have kicked them all to the curb then. Instead, my losses were as follows: 1) The first renter just quit paying. It took two months to get him out so, after the deposit, I lost a month's worth of rent that Muse said they sent to Collections but is now too old to get back (around $1,300). 2) My second tenant started having problems paying and, by the time they got her out, they told me she had caused damages totaling around $6,000 - half of which Muse forced me to pay for. Muse also threw away the washer and dryer the renter had broken even though both appliances were covered under warranty and could have been replaced for free, adding another roughly $1,700 in irretrievable losses. 3) After booting the second tenant, I realized Muse had not been increasing rent with every lease renewal as they should have been. At this point, that came to a little over another $5,000 in losses. 3) My third (and final) tenant wrecked my house, leaving behind $14,000 worth of damage. Some of this included such simple things as never replacing the air filters (which meant I had to replace all the ductwork) - something Muse was supposed to be checking for during every six month inspection. I should have walked away on day one when Tami accused me of leaving poop in one of the toilets during the first showing. My mom and I had spent 13 hours the day before making it spotless. Turns out Tami hadn't bothered to check, nor to notify me, that they were letting people into my house, unsupervised, and that one of the potential renters had decided to use the facilities. Things like that have had me working on this review for the entire six years I was with Muse as it was the only thing I felt I had any real control over. I will say that Deborah and Ke'Arah did consistently respond and always made me feel like a valued customer. Everyone else however, bullied me, refused to take responsibility for blatantly obvious errors, or simply ignored me when they didn't feel like responding. The one good thing to come from Muse Realty's continual decline in service over the years was that it forced me to look for another agency. I'm happy to report that I found one that is actually competent and keeps me in the loop. I strongly recommend others look elsewhere as well. Negative Review of Muse Realty - 3034 Tall Grass Bluff Rock Hill SC We initially thought Muse Realty was great before moving in, but our experience turned out to be extremely disappointing. The owners contractors left a mess at 3034 Tall Grass Bluff Rock Hill SC (I would suggest running from this property owner) and unresolved issues at move-in, and then we were unfairly blamed for them at move-out. In hindsight, I should have read the reviews on Google and Yelp--this seems to be a common pattern. It feels like Muse Realty always finds a way to justify some type of deposit reduction, no matter the circumstances. I have owned over 100 properties personally and never kept deposit on such issues without properly verifying. Communication Problems I made multiple requests weeks before move-out to do a walk-through with their inspector, to ensure there would be no issues. Despite two requests and email correspondence, Muse Realty refused. Instead, they conducted an inspection without our presence weeks before our actual move-out, and none of the alleged issues were on their own list at that time. Afterward, they sent charges based on new photos that didn't match the original move-in photo log. This is exactly why I asked them to review the photos I provided--but they ignored them. Unjustified Charges They deducted $659.86 from our deposit with questionable charges, including: * $85 vendor trip fee: for making a list of repairs and buying supplies. * $235 for cleaning: even though we paid over $750 for professional cleaners (recommended by Muse Realty themselves) and cleaned again after move-in due to the mess left by their contractors and roofing company. * Light bulbs ($17.59): no proof they worked at move-in, and they were already not working when we arrived. * Air filters ($35.26): we replaced them within a week of move out and even left three brand-new replacements behind. Photos confirm this. * 9V battery ($6.91): all smoke detectors were working at move-out. * Garbage disposal splash guard ($25.16): never existed upon move-in; not in their move-in photos. * "Trash and debris removal": false. I hauled away all trash personally, and the only items left were those that belonged to the owner when we moved in. Final Thoughts Muse Realty's process is inconsistent, their communication is evasive, and their handling of deposit returns feels like a money grab. They ignored evidence, refused reasonable requests, and charged us for issues that were either preexisting or fabricated. I only rented from Muse Realty for one year. They really helped me out in my time of need. I qualified as an applicant and was approved within 48 business hours. They were patient with me, as I had to have a third-party pay my move-in fees and that took three weeks. But. They worked with me and helped me to get everything done. John and Lane were amazing. I can't thank you enough. I read the entire lease before I signed it, so I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. And because I did, I did not have any surprises. It is a lengthy lease, and is also pretty detailed. I understood the move-in and move-out processes, that pest control was my responsibility, and that rent was always due on the 1st of the month. It also details which appliances are and are not covered within the lease. My appliances were covered and the owner would repair or replace them at their expense as long as I did not cause any of them to malfunction. Pretty clear. I would also like to say that as a young woman with lots of melanin in my skin, I did not ever experience any discrimination or racism from Muse Realty's staff or the vendors that were sent out to our home. I did have maintenance emergencies and each time, they were resolved to the best of the vendor's ability within a reasonable amount of time. My refrigerator stopped working and ruined the $400 worth of food I had just bought. I was told to contact my renter's insurance provider so that I could be reimbursed for the food, but the owner did repair the fridge and it worked well after that. Our HVAC kept going out, but the owner always approved vendors to repair it. They finally discovered the underlying cause - thank God and then we were fine. STAY AWAY FROM MUSE REALTY! Muse Realty managed property for 3.5 years. They are not honest people, and they don't care about your property. 1. 1st tenant broke my kitchen counter top, and Muse Realty move-out inspection did not find out and let the tenant left. We found out this issue when the 2nd tenant moved out. 2. 2nd tenant was using my residential house as his insurance agent office. The tenant set up 5- 6 work tables and had employees working in the house, and the tenant's customers in and out the house/community. I could lose my house per the HOA rule. My property is a residential rental instead of commercial rental. Muse Realty did not find out because Muse never check the tenant during rental period time like most of property management companies. Muse only checks when the rental contract ends. 3. Muse Realty did not update /lower my house list price on MLS per my request. They only updated the new price on their company website. They did this on purpose because we were not happy for the broken kitchen counter top issue and argued with them. Because the VERY high rental price on MLS they listed, my house could not be rent out for 92 days during perfect rental season from 5/1/2023- -7/27/2023. So I changed property management company in August 2023, and my house is rent out within 9 days after listing!!! 4. Muse Realty people were not fast to update my rental house price for 92 days, but they were so fast to update my rental house status on MLS on the same day when I told them I did not want them to manage my property. However, they lied on the MLS, my property showed" Closed" with a rental price when the status should be " Withdraw". My current property management company called Muse Realty and pointed out the mistakes, they refused to correct the wrong information. MUSE REALTY is taking steps to evict me because l will not replace the battery in the smoke detector, which I am renting. lve never been late with my rent, in fact, my account has credit because I pay lil extra money each month. Muse's actions towards me are unethical and unjust. l believe it's illegal, state law has noted it's the owner's responsibility for the smoke detectors. The smoke detector is not damaged, it simply needs a $2 battery but Muse Realty is taking action to evict me. What type of company treats humans like that? Rarely collecting damage deposits, I was shocked by the state of the house once I took it back and tried to sale it. An upstairs room reeked of animal urine. Superficial repairs had been made to the wall where a pipe burst in winter, The garage door was dented and warped to the point it could not be opened or closed easily. The landscape was an overrun jungle. The kitchen countertop was burned multiple places. A chandelier had been painted. The sprinkler system no longer functioned. And the list goes on. read more

Communication is poor. I rented my place without ever speaking to anyone over the phone. They responded to my voicemails via text or email only. Once I moved it, the place was absolutely disgusting. I let multiple people know and no one ever called to apologize or offer to have it cleaned. They had no clue about the trash service or even the mailbox number. Very unorganized! I used Muse Realty management company for my property in Rock Hill, SC. I have never worked with a more inexperienced deceitful group of individuals. I am in the mortgage industry and have had multiple rental units. I have used other management companies in the past but Muse Realty by far is the worst. I would never recommend this company to anyone thinking of using a management company for one of their rental properties. I was given a quote for repairs/cleaning and when the invoice came what I agreed to was not completed and I was overcharged. This company will lie, cheat and not provide the services to their landlord clients that were requested or overcharge them. I was told that they would do a walk through of my property every 6 months, I was never given any documentation that service was ever done. Again, this company does not look out for the interest in the owners property at all. This review is not for the house we lived in, we actually love our house and had zero problems with the owner. Lets start with finding termites, We made the office aware of this in June and reminded them twice. They finally had someone treat for them, if I was the home owner I would have immediately left this company as these termites had half of a year to destroy God knows what in the floors and walls that we couldn't see. When moving out we weren't not made aware that our rent would still be deducted as any other autopay we have ever had stops coming out when you don't owe. After calling the office 7 times, we got our money finally almost a month later!! The next month it came out again but thankfully I caught it in time. We were told upon moving out we would be contacted about our inspection, I called multiple times to see if and what was coming out of our deposit for that because at our rentals in the past we have always been made aware of anything being deducted and why. The property I rented was fine and things with Muse were also fine in the beginning. After I moved out they sent me half of my security deposit back with various claims of why they kept my money. After disputing the claims and wanting a break down of charges they told me they would get it to me as soon as possible. After a week of waiting I never heard anything. I then called and was told email was the best way to contact someone. After several emails to them they never responded. I guess it's easy to not respond when I moved several hours away. First a little back story... I currently live in Lexington, SC but work in Augusta, GA. I am in the process of moving my family to the Charlotte-Metro area for a new job, and have a very limited window in which to find a house. It is very difficult to get up to the Rock Hill area to look at properties, so I have to schedule appointments in advance and look at several properties on the same day. We found a listing for a home managed by Muse and easily decided that it was our first choice. We quickly put in an application and continued to look for a home in case something went wrong with the Muse property. I should add that I have a four year old daughter as well as a chronically wife who is expecting our second child. It is incredibly important for us to have a home... home health will not come out to a hotel. In order to ensure that we would have a house ASAP, I bit the bullet and paid to apply to four additional houses with other rental companies. This cost me close$1000, of which $400 was non refundable. After several days, Muse called me back and let me know that we had been approved, and that all we had to do was pay the deposit + rent, sign the contract and get the keys. I asked the lady who called me if this were 100% certain, and was told that yes... the house was ours. I then proceeded to call and cancel our other applications, as this house was our first choice. Imagine my surprise when, only two hours later I get a call from Muse saying that we could no longer lease the house because the owner had an outstanding contract to sell. How is this legal? Not only did we lose that house, we also lost our backup plan as we had been told that this was a sure thing. Needless to say, I was upset. At this time, the lady I spoke with told me, and I quote... "We are so sorry that this happened. If we get any new properties listed we will give you a call, and you will have first dibs on anything we have." This didn't fix the situation at hand, but I decided to keep the door open in case anything came up. Fast forward a week... my family and I were in the Rock Hill area looking at houses. I had to leave my job a week earlier than intended in order to find a house. This cost me another $2500 in lost income. On a whim, we decided to drop by the office and see if there was anything coming up soon. I spoke with Deborah, who told me that she has literally just listed a home that fit our criteria. (So much for calling me... before hand.) We got the address, and drove by to look at it from the outside. We immediately called back to schedule an appointment only to be told that they would have to call me back in an hour. This morning I called back only to be told that this house was just rented and that we were now "second in line." So much for first dibs... I told Tammy what I had been told about being called ahead of time, as well as being given priority on a new listing, only to be called a liar. All in all the poor quality of service provided by this company has cost me almost $3000 and has caused my family to have to remain in Lexington while I start working next week. Because of them my disabled, PREGNANT wife will have to care for my daughter alone while I keep looking for a home. I should call my attorney but honestly... I think I'm just happy that I dodged a bullet. TLDR; DO NOT USE MUSE. YOU WILL REGRET IT. read more

We don't even know where to start. How about having our move out inspection completed by Muse with the summary " Overall the house was in great condition" Then why did we only get $38 back from our security deposit?? Will be in court 12/6 for them to explain that?? Wish we had known this before signing with them for a second lease. The crap trap that we are in now with sewer leaking under the crawlspace.... (reeks of sewer coming through the floor boards and smells like straight "S__t" everytime the front door is opened) leaky hot water faucets they refuse to fix. Now we have black snakes....2 in our house within 3 weeks. Muse says that this is" normal" yet until now we have always lived outside of the city limits and NEVER had a snake inside our home. Mice and huge roaches also!! How can you enjoy your home having to look down for every step you take in fear of stepping on a snake. I have used Muse Realty to manage my investment properties in Rock Hill for over five years. They have done an excellent job screening potential tenants and have diligently sought to enforce the conditions of lease agreements. Unfortunately, that sometimes means that tenants are required to pay for damages that they caused outside the parameters of normal wear and tear. Conversely, Muse Realty has done a great job at maintaining my properties and keeping them safe and livable for my tenants. Muse Realty was a mixed bag. Though the property I lived in was fantastic and things were fine in the beginning, moving out was an absolute and total nightmare. They became vindictive and as my move out date approached, they would do little things to try to make us feel intimidated. One day a surprise inspection happened--the man in our home was extremely rude and kept asking if the dishwasher was broken. It never was, and I think he was trying to see if we were up to something, which we were of course not. It was uncomfortable. Then the real nastiness: when we moved out, in spite of paying pet fees, they charged us an insane amount of money (2000?) and straight up made some things up. I felt really betrayed in the end as I had several nice years with them. I hope they can conduct business better in the future and, whenever sending someone to a home, making sure they are polite and not intimidating. Disappointing. They left me waiting on a property that was no longer available and failed to inform me. I called interested in another property, mentioned the one I was waiting to be contacted back for, was told it was rented out last week. Woman was as interested as watching paint dry. She didn't care one bit that I was left waiting for over a week let alone seem interested in assisting me with the new property I was interested in. She wanted me off the phone as soon as possible, as if I was interrupting some funny youtube video. Not a single care whether they get tenants or otherwise. I expected more and some professionalism. It was like.. a very bad waste of my time. I'm not even mad I'm just.. surprised. I didn't think they'd be so "laid back" and uninterested. Almost like college students. I don't recommend this place, I'm sorry. If you're looking for a serious rental place, ready to take care of you, look elsewhere. Maybe some more well known professional places. This is absolutely the worst company to deal with. We rented from them for over a year and a half and paid our rent on time. Had to call them out and was charged for an electrical issue that they said was caused by the charger to my laptop; it still works perfectly to this date. Recently moved out and cleaned the home, I admit some minor stuff was missed but not enough to take entire deposit and charge $160 more. When we first moved in the house was not cleaned well and only two bedrooms had carpet that we had to go in and deodorize and clean ourselves and was later charged because they were not professionally cleaned when we moved out, if we had known what kind of people they were pictures would have been taken of all the things that they thought were in immaculate condition. To make a long story short, they charged for trimming shrubbery that they cut down to the ground and $225 for a cleaning lady that said she worked 9 hours and cleaned things that we never used, i.e. the dishwasher. Talked to the office manager that could not document the exact charges for what was done. In addition after giving a thirty day notice, the company came out the next business day to inspect while we were trying to organize our things to move (and brought the owners). So unprofessional. I will be posting on Social Media so that no one else that I know will be blind-sided by the fake grins and handshakes that lure you in when you apply at their agency. If you do rent, take pictures of EVERYTHING before and after! August 6, 2014 As you can see I am not the party that is upset. Businesses cannot continue to take advantage of customers without them letting others know. This is just a public service announcement for prospective future renters. The absolute worst experience and property management company! I rented a single family home for over 3 years and started to get mail to that address for the owner which was bank prepared. I took these documents to muse realty and asked them to please inform me of what was happening. Foreclosure? Refi? Just let me know because I have a wife, two kids and two dogs. I spoke directly to Nate who assured me he would let me know if anything was happening.. On the 7th of April 2014 I get a call from Tammy asking me why I had not called her??? I said I didn't have any reason to call her and she then DROPS the bomb that we have to be out by the end of the month because the owner was moving back. Totally not acceptable and less than 30 days notice I might add! She said they mailed a letter on the 1st which we never did receive. In a panic my wife and I had to buy a house in 20 days because we could not find a rental that was in the school district and would accept our dogs. Worse yet we have the house cleaned and spent $350 on carpet cleaning. I talked to jake the inspection manager who said there was $300-$350 in repairs and I said I didn't have time to personally do it so to have their people so it. I was told I would get my $900 deposit refund by the 30 of May.. Well today is the 3rd of June and a check for $400 arrives!!! They charged me $15 to clean kitty litter ... I don't have cats and $400 to clean the outside awning which is aluminum and may I add OUTSIDE! The awning itself couldn't have cost $1000 brand new. Absolutely the very worst people in the property management business.. One last thing... My rent was always 15 day in advance so I was a model renter. We live out of area and originally purchased a brand new property in Rock Hill in 2006. The rental market was very soft at the time. After interviewing several local property managers, we decided to work with Muse Realty. Even though the market conditions were challenging the Muse team proactively procured a tenant for us within just 2 weeks! Over the years we have had several tenants move out, but Muse Realty always re-rented the property within days! In mid 2014 our tenants gave notice to vacate. When Muse Realty did the final walk thru they noted that there was an extensive amount of water damage in the kitchen that extended underneath all of the countertops. Regrettably the tenants had let the situation get completely out of hand by not reporting this. As a result the quotes to replace the damaged countertops was in the neighborhood of $3000 which exceeded the tenants security deposit by over $2000! Nate Horne, the Manager at Muse Realty, took it upon himself to locate the original builder and find a match for the countertops in North Carolina. This resulted in a HUGE savings to us! We have worked with property managers in over 8 different states over the years and none have come close to giving us the service that Muse Realty has. We would highly recommend them without reservation to anyone in need of a property manager! read more

We are currently in our second lease with Muse Realty. They are very professional and thorough. I have rented from other property management companies in the area and they are by far the nicest and have the nicest properties. I have read the other reviews and feel they don't do this company justice. They maintain very high standards, as do I. We did have to pay for a few things when we moved out of our previous property, but they also gave us a chance to fix minor cleaning prior to sending out a cleaning crew. While I know professional carpet cleaning is in the lease, I do feel it is a bit excessive. We own a steam cleaner and I cleaned all the carpets myself. They still required that we pay for the professional cleaning. It is what it is. I am kind of glad our new property has zero carpeting, so we don't have to worry about that this time. They are very responsive to repair requests. read more

Rented from Muse for 2 years. Upon moving out my wife was told if there were any problems that needed to be addressed in order to get my deposit back, they would contact us in order to correct them. Didn't happen. Never heard from them and they used $200 of my deposit to solve issues that would have taken me maybe 4-5 hours to complete. Wipe down the side of the refrigerator, put a plastic cover on a florescent light, clean out gutters, replace a water filter, and stand up a wooden side on a hot tub that never worked. Bottom line is this. If you rent from them, make sure you note any problems on the original inspection sheet that would need to be repaired. Go through the final walk thru with them as I did not. They can say you caused this or that damage whether you did or not cause the damage and then repair it out of your deposit. The contract says the renter is responsible for inside and outside maintenance. If I had known that outside maintenance meant cleaning out the gutters, I would have been happy to do so if they had just told me. When I called to discuss this with the manager he told me my wife was lying that they don't discuss issues with owners after you leave, they just make repairs and deduct the cost out of your deposit. If you rent from them, I hope that you read my review so maybe you can get all your deposit back, instead of letting Muse use your money to make repairs for their true clients-the owners. read more

I rented with Muse Realty July '15 and it was the WORST EXPERIENCE I ever had being that I was a first time renter and college student at the time. At the time I was assured that everything with the house would be up to par but it was not. The house wasn't cleaned at all and many repairs needed to be made for the house was fairly old. The management staff was not cooperative and gave me the "run around" when I tried to address them with the issues I had. I only stayed in the house for 6 months until I decided that the stress of staying there was no longer worth my money. This is not a misrepresentation of this company, it is just my personal experience. Pictures were taken during move-in and videos were filmed to display some of the problems that arose and were not addressed prior to moving out. Eviction papers were filed, but the motion did not move forward. I decided to leave and paid all the fees in cash. This included charges I wasn't at fault for such as broken blinds in a room I didn't even use. I do not recommend this company for property owners or renters. I rented a property under their management that I occupied for part of the year two years in a row as my main residence was in another town. I specifically documented stains when I moved in and then was charged for the same stains when I moved out. My AC was broken in the summer, and I had to call for three days to even get someone to call me back as each person seemed to pass the buck. They sent repair men to the property 3 different times with the wrong key throughout the course of the 2 years. I failed to replace one set of temporary blinds when I moved out and they replaced them with and charged me for real blinds four times the expense. They also deducted $200 from the deposit for dust above the door frames. I requested to speak to management at the time of move out and even wrote a letter to the owner... to which I have never gotten a response. As a property owner myself, I understand the value of having great tenants. However, that begins with a good property management group who provides services with true honesty and integrity. read more
