I would like to preface this review with the fact that I am typically not picky about haircuts, and…read moreI don't usually get upset very easily. Not to say that I am upset, just very, very disappointed. Furthermore, If I leave with something that isn't 100% meeting my expectations, I usually adapt and life goes on. However, every time I look in the mirror I find myself disappointed with my hair after getting it cut a few days ago Anyways, I have been getting my hair haircut at Salon Blu for about three years now. Overall, it is a great experience and I usually leave happy with my hair. The stylists are always super friendly and we have pleasant conversations during. It is worth mentioning that this salon has staff who have different experience levels. I have always chosen or been placed with a stylist with a high experience level, but this time I chose to take a gamble and go with someone at a "level 1"... this was where I went wrong. We had a great conversation, and I told her the exact haircut that I wanted- just a simple medium length cut with lots of layers (I had long hair). Additionally, I provided about five reference photos of the exact haircut that I wanted. I figured the haircut would be simple enough to replicate. I told her verbatim "please just not too short". I expected that she would deliver the haircut that I wanted with the information I provided and the photos. This was not the case.... my idea of a medium length haircut was erased and replaced with essentially a "long bob" ... which is very short... about 4 inches shorter than what I asked for. I really wish that she had followed my instructions of where I wanted it to be cut at. I think that she did not have enough experience and didn't consider the fact that wet hair appears much shorter once it is dry. Another item that I did not care for was that my typical 45 minute haircut took her an hour and a half to complete. I do not mind the fact that she took her time, so much as that she cut my hair entirely too short despite knowing that I wanted a medium length like the photos. I will be honest and just say it outright: my hair looks hideous now :( I left the salon feeling very sad and disappointed- only clinging to the fact that hair grows back. Despite being super upset about my hair, I will continue to go to the salon blu, but I highly recommend that anyone who goes to this place chooses a stylist at a high level. Lesson learned

I had my balayage done by Felicity and overall left feeling disappointed with the experience. I…read morewish there had been more transparency and communication throughout the process regarding what result was realistically achievable. I came in wanting a lighter, cooler-toned balayage and showed an inspo photo of hair she had previously done herself. However, the final result turned out much warmer/orangier than expected. I completely understand the complexity of coloring and bleaching and that results may not always turn out exactly as planned. I was never told before, during, or after the appointment that my hair had not lifted enough to achieve the desired tone until I reached out afterward myself. After contacting the salon, the corrective option offered was a darker glaze/toner, which wasn't really the direction I wanted to go, so I decided not to do it because I wasn't confident it would achieve the result I was hoping for.

I'll start by saying that Joanna obviously knows what she is doing and gives an excellent cut,…read moretechnically speaking. My work and schedule have changed and that meant that I needed to find a new stylist. I looked up reviews (she gets rave reviews) and then called and asked specifically if she worked well with curly hair (she said she was comfortable with curly hair) and let her know that my plan was to go from long, curly hair, to a long, curly pixie (short cut). Set the appointment. Got really excited! Arrived 20+ minutes early to have time to get a feel for things and make sure we had time to discuss the cut/plan. I barely had a consultation. Was in and out in less than an hour - super quick for such a major transformation. Ordered some curly cream to pick up the next day, and expressed some concerns about the sides still being really thick. Joanna said she would be available to fix any bits that bothered me. (Totally reasonable for there to be some things to adjust after playing with it - it was a big change.) When I called the next day to make sure I could pick up the curl cream and let her know I needed some adjustments with the bottom layer, she didn't have the curl cream (miscommunication between us) and didn't have an opening to fix my hair for a week. That felt like a long time to walk around frustrated and self-conscious about a transformation cut... but, I took it and worked with the cut. (Which now took more time to style than long, curly hair.) Then, on the morning of the fix appointment, Joanna texted early to say she needed to cancel and offered to reschedule... a week later. I offered to come any time during that day. But, she was double-booked all day. (I was going to be out of town - part of the reason I had really wanted to get it finished and be happy with it, since the events I would be going to were very picture-heavy.) I was so frustrated with her lack of commitment to me, as a customer, and with feeling like I couldn't trust her to take my experience seriously. I didn't take the next appointment offered. (It would have been 2 weeks since the original cut.) And eventually decided to find someone else to "fix" it. Joanna is super nice. I think she is likely very loyal to her longterm clients. Based on my experience, though, if you have curly hair or are looking for a very new "do", I can't suggest her. I never felt like my experience or my hair were her priority. What was a very exciting thing for me turned into something I had to have "fixed" by someone else. (Now, it's too short ... but it's not a blob on the side of my head, so that's cool.) I've paid for two haircuts. (Joanna's was the most expensive cut only + tip I've ever had). And I was too self-conscious to happily pose for pics on a really important day for our family. I really, really hate to leave a non-positive review for anybody. We all have bad days. But, this needed to be handled better and I don't want anyone else to go through it. Hair is a big deal. We need to trust the person messing with it.
