The gallery is very clean overall. There's no charge for entry. I've also had the pleasure of participating as an artist in a variation of events affiliated with the gallery. - Art on the Green - Art on the Spot - Small Town: Small Works It's great having a local gallery and not having to go all the way into Atlanta for such an experience. I will have to say that depending on what's going on, parking can be a challenge if it's really busy. The gallery is in a great location next to a residential apartment and also across from the Reformation brewery.

There are some exquisite art pieces there currently and it is super quiet in there. Little cubbies of seating to enjoy the coffee, tea and pastries selections in the little coffee shop there. The gallery, located just a block or two from the museum, is an effort by the museum to "highlight the talents of local and regional artists...." They have a pretty cool, and commendable, goal of making Cartersville a more art focused community. They go about doing that by selling original art by members of the Booth Artists Guild and the Booth Photography Guild and supplement it with prints, posters, books and sculptures of artists who are part of the Booth's collection. All art work is framed and having spent a small fortune on framing the art I own, I was amazed at how reasonable prices are. Even better, I don't have to wait for the Booth Photography Guild show to see some of the great work its members produce. Work gets rotated every three months and since I don't get to Cartersville that often, I'm guaranteed of seeing something fresh when I go. The Downtown Gallery is a nice addition to Cartersville's historic downtown.

For the last few years we have visited Santa at The Marietta History Museum. This visit, like those…read morein the past, did not disappoint. All of Santa's "elves" are so friendly and kind; most start of up conversations with my little girls asking what's on their Christmas List. I always buy the digital photo with a photo ornament. The ornament is a great memory for our tree.

Marietta History Museum; Kennesaw House…read more Sooooo much history in this building. I highly recommend. Not a huge museum so it won't take much of you're time but there is a lot of good stuff to see here. Built as a cotton warehouse by John Glover in 1845, the Kennesaw House is one of Marietta's oldest buildings. On May 1, 1855, Dix Fletcher purchased the warehouse from John Glover for $12,000 and transformed it into a hotel. Fletcher named his hotel the Fletcher House until 1867 when he renamed it the Kennesaw House. It was not until the Civil War that the Kennesaw House gained notoriety and expanded its fame. On April 11, 1862, James Andrews and 18 US soldiers spent the night here on the 2nd floor. The next morning James Andrews and the "Raiders" left the Kennesaw House, boarded a train to Kennesaw, and stole 'The General' when its Confederate crew stopped for breakfast. The purpose of this raid was to help cut the Confederacy into smaller pieces by stealing a Confederate locomotive while destroying bridges and supply lines along the way. The raid was ultimately unsuccessful but the Kennesaw House gained fame as the starting location of the "Great Locomotive Chase." In July of 1864, Union General William Tecumseh Sherman used the house for his headquarters during his "Atlanta Campaign". That November, departing US Calvary started to burn anything that could be of use to the Confederate army. Sherman spared the hotel because Dix Fletcher was a Mason and because his son-in-law, Henry Cole, was a Yankee spy. However, the fourth floor did catch fire as ashes from other burning buildings blew onto the roof. The fourth floor was never rebuilt. During Reconstruction, Dix Fletcher re-emerged the hotel "as a resort destination free from the ice and chill wind of the North and the oppressive heat and relentless bugs of the South." It is now owned by the Downtown Marietta Development Authority, and since 1996 functioned as the Marietta Museum of History.

Hosted my daughter's 5th birthday party at Art & Soul and it was seriously great. The staff was so…read moresweet and helpful every step of the way - from my first call to ask questions, all the in-between communications, and the day of. Not only was the staff awesome, but they were so flexible. I opted to do a pottery painting party but they also allowed me to bring in my own canvases for a small fee so that the kids could do both mediums. The kids were able to choose from a variety of plaster figurines and cups, pick up to 5 acrylic paint colors, and get more paint as needed. Aprons were also provided so that the kids didn't get their clothes messy. I was able to come 30 minutes early to set up and could bring anything I wanted (including alcohol!). They provided table cloths and balloons of my color choice so that was a huge help with half the decor. The kids all had a great time and my daughter said it was the best party ever. :) One thing to note is that the space wasn't private for our event so there was another group of adults painting. It didn't bother us, but I did feel bad for them when a bunch of 5yo girls showed up. Luckily, they were almost done and good sports about it.

One of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. I have three children between 9 and 13 and…read morehave hosted my share of birthday parties, but I have never been treated as rudely as I was when we held my 9-year-old's party at Art and Soul a few weeks ago. Know what you're paying for: the party is booked for 1.5 hours, but the actual activity (pottery painting) lasts about 30 minutes. That leaves a full hour with nothing planned. When I asked whether the girls could paint on paper to fill the time, the staff rolled their eyes, tossed paper on the table, and refused to give the girls any more paint. These were well-behaved 9-year-olds. The other mothers even commented on how calm the group was. But they are children, and yes, they occasionally got up from their seats. For that, I was told the girls were "misbehaving." Then came the mom-shaming. I was informed that "most mothers" who host parties there come in to decorate the space and sit and paint with the kids, rather than talk with the other parents. As a working mother, I have never been more offended. I paid for a hosted party. I should not be lectured about how a "good" mother spends her child's birthday. Art and Soul is not equipped to host parties. Between the padded schedule, the attitude, and the condescension, this was a miserable experience on a day that should have been about my daughter. Save your money and book somewhere that actually wants your business.

It had been over 4.5 years since we last visited the Booth Western Art Museum. It is a bit far for…read moreus to drive (on a regular basis) and there hadn't seemed to be much difference in the exhibits at that time versus our visit prior to that. We were staying overnight nearby so we opted to revisit on a weekend when our bank sponsors free admission. We parked in a large shared lot across the street that was about 90% full due to a local farmers' market. We arrived around 10:30 a.m. on a Saturday (they open at 10). My assumption was that we'd spent at most a couple of hours here. However, I was mistaken. My impression is that they have added / exchanged a significant percentage of the works on display over the last few years. There were definitely a lot of works I recalled seeing, but there were also many that were unfamiliar. All have associated plaques with notes (some about the context and some about the artists). I read many of these as I browsed. The artwork is probably 75% paintings and 25% sculptures (percentages vary based on the room / wing you are in). Over the 2 main floors, the galleries included: - a room showing examples of how works depicting the west evolved decade by decade for ~ 2 centuries. - rooms of general western works - themed rooms with subjects like 'cowboys' or 'native peoples' - a room devoted to new acquisitions - a separate 'gallery of the U.S. presidents' that is permanent - a room devoted to traveling exhibits - this one was an artist who painted western scenes (including national parks) with about 90% realism and 10% spiritual / fantasy elements. - a long hallway devoted to sculptures of a wide array of native tribes - a large gallery devoted to modern interpretations - including things like a Van Gogh inspired painting of a bull rider, some pop-art by Warhol, etc. - a room devoted mostly to military work - the burning of Atlanta, the battle of the Alamo, etc. We spent over 3.5 hours here and left mostly as we were getting tired. I think I covered most of the museum, but there were parts near the end where I spent less time. The museum also had a temporary photo exhibit in the basement area, as well as a cafe and gift shop. There grounds feature an array of larger sculptures, but it was in the upper 90s that day so we didn't linger outside. I recall liking this museum when I came here previously, but I enjoyed it even more on this most recent visit. I'll definitely try to return again.

There are lots of benches to sit on if you want to examine a particular exhibit for an extended period. The displays feature a wide variety of media, from bronze & paper sculptures, to oil and digital paintings, photographs, historical artifacts, etc. Very mentally stimulating, no matter what your interests are. Oh, and on the first full weekend of each month, the museum has free entry for Bank of America customers (Museums on Us Program), admit one per card holder.

When I tell you this room was MADE for such an entrance as this, it was spot on. There is a bar to the front and the main area is a blank canvas which allows you to set it up how you would like. Brea had it sit with a sit down eating space and a dance floor towards the back area. Based on my experience at Venue 92, it has been added to my venue list as the options of use for this space seem endless.
