Not only were the exhibits wonderful, the staff here were nothing but kind and helpful. We came for a day trip with our elderly relatives and they made sure everyone was comfortable and that we had good recommendations for places to eat after our trip through the museum. The entire trip was great and I cannot recommend the museum enough.

This museum is amazing. The artwork is outstanding. So many pictures, paintings, statues, displays. You really have to spend most of the day here because there's so many rooms, and outside statues. I love this place. The Kenny Rodgers photo display is cool. A great asset to Cartersville!

This Smithsonian-affiliated museum is another of Cartersville's surprising museum gems. I had been a dozen or so years back & appreciated it even more this time - even with a 6-yr old grandson along. Haha. Speaking of that, this is a legit art museum so rambunctious kids should be kept close. Also, I comment the staff for creating Sagebrush Ranch in the basement area - a museum play place for kids (with their parents). Grandson loved running back & forth in there to get on & off the life size horse, pretend to ride the stagecoach & do some simple interactive activities. I'd encourage them to continue expanding this area). Otherwise, you have several levels of fabulous Western art & sculptures, Native American sections & the Hall Of Presidents & their memorabilia. Check it out & then eat in one of the very good nearby restaurants.

What a lovely first class museum. Very well organized for our current situation with timed mobile tickets available on line. Diverse, unique, and beautifully curated. Smithsonian has a hand in this treasure. Even if Western Art isn't usually your thing- this collection is diverse, and well themed, and explained. Much American history in this collection. Well located near both walkable shops and restaurants.

One of my favorite museums to visit. It is made up of several galleries, and exhibits. Admission was $12 in 2017 but they do have discounts. There is a pamphlet that has some rules like please don't touch, no food or drink, please stand back, no weapons and a photography policy. The Orientation Theatre is a 15 minute film about the American West and runs every 20 minutes. This theatre sits 60 people. My favorite gallery is the Presidential Gallery. It's probably every body's favorite too. It has a picture and display of every President we have had along with a one page signed letter. There is a Civil War Gallery in here too that has some of the best Civil War art works I have seen. These are numerous oil paintings of different scenes of the Civil War. Some are amazing and unbelievable oil paintings. There is also a Cowboy Gallery, an Indian Gallery, Western Movie Gallery. Each show casing it's on oil paintings of Cowboys and Indians. There is also a cafe in here where you can get something to eat. However, they are only open Tuesday through Saturday at the present. They also have special events here. I was lucky to be here during the Cowboy Festival and Cowboy Church. They had plays during the Cowboy Festival inside at theatres similar to a movie theatre with comfortable seats. I saw one reenactment of the shootout at the OK Corral. It was interesting yet entertaining to watch the actors. They had guns going off, arguments, fights and of course the gun fight. In summary, I would visit again. I spent several hours here and didn't have time to see everything. I I would recommend getting here early and see the 1st floor first. Then, take a break and eat at the cafe that is here. Finally, go up stairs to even more spectacular art galleries to see.

Having arrived during the holiday season when the visitor center was closed, I started my visit to…read moreCartersville at the Bartow history Museum. It's the perfect way to get an overview of the surrounding areas from many perspectives, including historic, economic, civic, etc. The staff, Pat and Rebecca, took the time to show me around on the ground level and later answered many of my questions. I would highly recommend people start their first visit to Cartersville at the Bartow history museum. Cheers

What can I say, not only did the history archived here overwhelm me, but so did the staff! It was…read moreso much more than I expected!!! [ THE SCENE ] I began my journey to Bartow History Museum with a desire to visit important sites for Black History Month. My plan was to post one review per day highlighting either places with significant Black History or Black Owned Businesses, so I got started visiting such places early January. Noble Hill-Wheeler Memorial Center was heavy on my heart because it was thee first Rosenwald School building constructed in Bartow County specifically designed for the education of black children (1924). Well, after about 2 weeks of calling the listed number and getting no live answer I began calling other historic sites on the Cartersville-Bartow Visitors Bureau website. One of those led me to call the museum and that was when I was introduced to sweet Mrs. Pat! It was not at all her responsibility, but she contacted the curator of the Memorial Center who decided to meet me there later in the day, despite not being open due to family tragedy. I insisted she not worry about it, but she was even more insistent that I come for a visit considering I had made the journey. Truly, all the historians and curators blew me away in this small unassuming town. *** [ THE EXPERIENCE ] During my conversation with Mrs. Pat, she insisted I come to the Bartow History Museum first! I'd called her about 45 minutes before arriving because I decided drive to Cartersville on a wing and a prayer, UNDETERRED BY being unsure if anything would be open. God seems to always have a way of rewarding my blind faith efforts. The museum was not on my radar or in my plans, but Pat was highly convincing that it would be well worth my time... and boy was she right! She was the first to greet me and immediately began to give me a tour. Shortly after my arrival Trey, the Museum Director, arrived with a thick stack of archive materials for me to review! He'd heard from Pat that I was wanting Black History information and brought a plethora of files. DID I MENTION HOW OVERWHELEMED I WAS WITH THEIR HOSPITALITY? Trey and Mrs. Pat treated me as if I were an important visiting professor, despite just how many times I told them I am a lowly blogger that had an idea to highlight some Black History Sites for the month. It didn't matter, because it was clear I was important to them! The first floor highlighted the women important to the county history while the second floor covered everything else, including artifacts, displays and powerful videos of timelines and living human history. *** [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] I came to find at least one story to write about, but the archives were vast and full of so many historic importance's that I decided I would do this place absolutely no justice in the limited words yelp allows for a review. So I will simply say, if you are desiring to teach yourself or your children important local history (ESPECIALLY BLACK HISTORY), consider this museum to be the Fort Knox of county information. Cartersville is TRULY impressive with an extravagant wealth of documents, photos and INCLUSIVE American history. But beyond all the information available, my most treasured memory will be how the staff made me feel. I felt totally unworthy of their lavish attention as Pat walked with me and pointed out things I might not have noticed on my own and Trey gave me access to files not within public areas of the museum. Dare I say I felt loved and highly welcomed! As Maya Angelou once famously said: "At the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel." I walked away from Bartow County Museum with one overwhelming feeling that doesn't come often or easily - I felt IMPORTANT. God bless you all! 2021 / 29 BlackHISTORYSeries

So, I had the privilege to experience Live Jazz at the High Museum and had A TIME! Given the amazing talent of the band that was outdoors and the ambiance that this band generated, most of my time for the event was spent with them. The outdoor band deeply engaged the crowd prompting consistent unified singing and line dancing. Every direction I turned in this area portrayed big smiles and enjoyable movements, relaying great memories were being formed. Although the majority of my time was spent with this band, I did take the time to walk around indoors and witnessed the other band, which elicited a casual, poised ambiance. There was also an opportunity to view the art at the High Museum. Overall, I had a grand time! I would definitely make time to visit Live Jazz at the High, if I am in the area at that time again. I would recommend those in the area at that time to check it out as well.

The site is an easy drive about an hour north of Atlanta, with plenty of free parking in a lot at the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center has restrooms and a small gift shop. The fee for adults to enter the 54-acre archeological site is only $6 per person. Built and occupied in three phases, from 1000-1550 CE, the prehistoric site is tranquil and calm. One can almost hear whispers of Native Americans as the breeze ripples through the tall grasses. There are three mounds (A, B, and C), that are accessible by wooden steps and hand rails. The mounds are well maintained and there were families picnicking on blankets at the summit of Mound A. Several picnic tables are also available near the river. The nature trail is tidy with signs educating the public on native woodland creatures and birds in the area. We saw many bluebirds and a couple Monarch butterflies lingering towards the end of fall. Definitely worth a peaceful morning or afternoon exploration and historical hike. The grounds are open 7am-5pm. Note: Plenty of dining options in Bartow County. We had brunch at the popular Doug's Place (about a 10 minute drive.)

I love that it's located right in the city, yet you feel so far away. I also really appreciate the membership options they offer. I typically get the single membership, which is well worth it when you consider how many times you can visit and the member-only events they host. This time around, though, I decided to rejoin with an upgrade to the Family Membership ($135 for the year, which covers two adults and children). It comes with four free guest passes, discounts at the gift shop, and options for parking garage passes. They also host member only events, and for the month of September, members get a discount at the garden cafe and restaurant. In addition to seeing all the gorgeous flowers and trees, there is always something going on throughout the year. They host events featuring work by various artists and sculptors throughout the garden, a scarecrow event in the fall, the holiday lights in the winter, and an orchid exhibit in the spring. Another great perk is that your membership gets you discounts at other botanical gardens across the United States. We got free admission via a bank promotion. The site is quite large, with a few additional buildings / pavilions. They have a huge parking area. The staff was friendly when we arrived. The museum is a bit smaller than I recalled. That may be due to having visited a larger auto-themed museum a few months ago; maybe that skewed my perspective. Here, they have a long central hallway currently showing a series of NASCAR entries from the 1950s through the present. Some of the models recur, so it is a good overview of how the cars have evolved over the decades both in style and in how they are outfitted for racing. There are also several attached rooms with their own sets of vehicles. One featured a variety of Jeeps from the original military type, through mail delivery vehicles from the 80s, to variants from Japan, etc. Another room featured historical vehicles - concept cars, a car owned by Amelia Earhart, a van used by a civil rights organization on an island in South Carolina, etc. A third was devoted to luxury-type vehicles of various types. At one end of the main hall is a theater where they apparently show films once a month. Outside of that are older cars (Ford Model Ts) and a collection of car-themed artwork on the walls. From what I recall, they have changed out most of the vehicles versus what I recall from last time. They may have some that are museum-owned, but they appear to get quite a number of on-loan cars, which potentially makes the experience somewhat fresh on each visit. They also had a cafeteria, though we left before lunchtime. We spent about an hour here, though you could probably easily double that if you were more of a car enthusiast. This is definitely worth a stop.
