Given the amazing talent of the band that was outdoors and the ambiance that this band generated, most of my time for the event was spent with them. The outdoor band deeply engaged the crowd prompting consistent unified singing and line dancing. Every direction I turned in this area portrayed big smiles and enjoyable movements, relaying great memories were being formed. Although the majority of my time was spent with this band, I did take the time to walk around indoors and witnessed the other band, which elicited a casual, poised ambiance. There was also an opportunity to view the art at the High Museum. Overall, I had a grand time! I would definitely make time to visit Live Jazz at the High, if I am in the area at that time again. I would recommend those in the area at that time to check it out as well.

A spread of recreated buildings outside offers opportunities for perusal. The most aesthetically distinctive site is a large spring of the sort that seem more common in Kentucky than Tennessee, which evinces a robust blue color and empties into a clear stream. The spring itself is off-limits, but the stream is open for wading. All of these sites are within sight of the initial entrance, but a trek uphill reveals picnic areas, an amphitheater, and a couple of mile trail through the woods. Between the different elements of the park, it was easy to spend a couple of hours there, and best of all, it's free, though the gift shop warrants examination.

I was really intrigued by the natural Spring called "the Blue Hole." I've never seen a spring that appears bright blue in a forest setting. Seeing this cool natural sight was pretty awesome. Also, I could just imagine the Cherokee using this spring water and being here hundreds of years before. Trail wise: Pretty flat and easy trails. It's not very challenging. But, it makes up for it because it's a calm place with beautiful forest. I loved walking around. Also, since this is small and off the beaten path, it's not crowded at all. Overall: highly recommended. Worth a visit!

I went at about 3pm on a Saturday, and the line to get in wasn't long at all. There was an option to choose Titanic or Van Gogh, regular ticket($40) or VIP($60). It started with a timeline of his life, and some of his most famous paintings. There were 2 different large rooms with the paintings from his Japan trips and flower series projected everywhere around the room. I'd bring a jacket because it was really cold in few places. You can take as long as you want, but it really doesn't take much time to get through the entire thing. Maybe 40 minutes if you're reading everything. We got the VR experience added for $5, and that was cute, but nothing to really write home about. At the gift shop, I got a sunflower tea set ($30) & the large can of blooming tea ($19.99). Those were my favorite part. Then as we exited, we were able to draw a picture and have it animated on a projector for a while.

At the end was the VR & coloring stations, and of course gift shop. The coloring station seemed a bit silly for adults but great for if you brought the kids. After purchasing a cool Van Gogh magnet in the gift shop, we were in and out in about an hour? We immediately headed for the food trucks and alcohol tent upon exiting. Kamayan and Wild Leap were there at the time so it was great trying some tasty Filipino food and some boozy slushies. So the TLDR? If you're going to do the experience, do the whole thing with the VR. Otherwise, it may be an ok date night kind of pregame? But don't expect it to WOW either.

CHIEF WHITE PATH'S CABIN FIASCO!…read more The was to be the icing on the cake, the site that I was most interested to see while in Gainsville, but thanks to Brenau University, my experience was ruined. First let me give you a bit of history regarding this cabin: This cabin (built in 1780 near Ellijay), belonged to Cherokee Indian Chief White Path. He fought, (unsuccessfully) to prevent the takeover of land from the Cherokee and was a leader on the "Trail of Tears". In the land lottery of 1832 the cabin and the land it was on was awarded to the Pinson family who were white settlers. In 1995 under the direction of Counte Cooley, a descendent of White Path, the cabin was moved to it's current location, which is on the edge of a parking lot and flanked by a brick monstrosity of a museum. What were they thinking??? This is a hot mess and if I used expletives, I would insert one here because it would so reflect how I feel. This historical cabin deserves to be in a natural setting, for goodness sakes! IT'S A CABIN!!!! As it stands, the cabin is attached to the Northeast Georgia History Center which is a part of Brenau University. You can't access the cabin without going through the history center. When I realized this, I wanted to scream. I should have realized that something was amiss when I noticed the address: 403 Brenau. MMMMHMM! This cabin in not at all what I expected and since it was hidden behind a fence and trees, I was not confident that it would provide the historical experience I expected. Therefore, my husband and I chose not to take the tour.

The museum also has a tasting room and a gift shop. It's a great place for both adults and kids, and the overall tour was extremely informative and fun. The tasting room had more than 25 flavors of Coca-Cola from around the world. While it was fun to try them all, this was also the most chaotic and busiest room in the museum. The floor was sticky with Coca-Cola that had been spilled at some point, although who knows when! The museum itself can get a little too busy. The gift shop is nice, with plenty of Coca-Cola-themed merchandise, including cutlery, dishes, plush toys, and more. I picked up a couple of magnets.

I will say, it was most likely a good idea for them to get a bigger location. I am going to preface this by saying that I am not a big Coke fan. Haven't had on in years. Then why did I come here? Because I am a consumer of culture and history. Coke has a huge connection to pop culture over the years and you cannot deny the fact that this is a powerhouse of a company. Starting out here, they suggest that you get tickets ahead of time. However, not totally necessary, you can buy them on site. Quick security check and you are ushered inside. The first thing you do when you come in here is the Coca-Cola Theater for a presentation. While waiting for the theater opening up you will have an emcee keeping your attention and dropping some facts about the museum and some trivia questions. Also, you will get some suggestions on what to do, which exhibits to see fully, and what things to taste. After the theater, which can be moving and shows the connection we all have to one another, you are set free to explore whichever way you want to go. There are many exhibits and interactive areas to partake in. The list of exhibits: The Stores, Coca-Cola Stories, Icons, Beverage Lab, Taste It!, Scent Discovery, The Loft, and Polar Bear (photo op with the polar bear mascot). The pop culture portions of this museum really drew me in. Icons and The Loft really stick out. This is pop culture overload and takes you back to a certain year. You'll see something and be transported to whatever year that item may have debuted. From old cans to basketballs; motorcycles to speakers; and Santa to the polar bear. Big signs that are lit up show you exactly how things were displayed in yesteryear. Do be sure to visit the Vault. Where they hold the original recipe behind a mammoth wall of metal. This safe is huge which sits inside the vault. Don't get too near it, do not touch it, do not breathe on it. Just stand back and admire it. Another stand out is Taste It! Where you get to sample as much sodas from around the world. You get to take a sip of what is popular in any given country. There are some that are delicious and then there are some that just leave a bad taste in your mouth, I'm looking at you Italy and China (like seriously, how did you make a soda that tastes almost like barbecue sauce?). Stand out to me were the watermelon flavored one and the cucumber flavored Sprite. Don't knock anything until you have at least tried it. Of course, the end is the gift shop. Make sure to check everything over here and grab what you want. Make it to the register and they will ask if you want to purchase a mystery gift. It can be a discontinued item or something rare. They tell you that you can touch the dinosaurs that you can reach without crossing the ropes. There's a big sandbox to "dig up" dinosaur bones with paintbrushes. I really didn't expect my teenager to enjoy himself, but he had fun too! That pleasantly surprised me. I think we all learned a few new things about where certain dinosaurs lived, and some dinosaur names we hadn't heard of before. The ONLY reason it's not getting a full 5 stars is because of a couple of reasons - 1 - A couple of the dinos could use maintenance. One of them has long claws that are a little broken. (You can see the inner structure poking out.) The small T-Rex looks like his eyes are having issues opening back up after it "blinks." 2 - The only staff member that wasn't very friendly was the cashier at the souvenir shop. He seemed like he really didn't enjoy his job. It's not the most fun position to have there, I'm sure, but it does have an effect on the full experience for customers. Definitely a place to check out for anyone that has kids that have any interest in dinosaurs.
