We have been buying seafood from this place for years. It was always better than the other 2 places in Murrells. Not any longer. This week we bought Halibut which was good. The jumbo shrimp was not great. The key lime pie tasted of too much lemon and was stale. Where is the chef?? This place used to have 3 hot soup kettles and samples but no longer. It was a real treat. Our "go-to" seafood market in Murrell's Inlet. Proprietor is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and honest. Typically has steaks and fillets, not whole fish, which is usually my preference to be able to tell how fresh the fish is, but everything we've gotten from him (local and imported fish, shrimp, crabs, mussels has been excellent. I'm a local and have been a regular patron for almost eight years (average, twice a month, $50-200 depending on whether we had house guests). Many of my local friends prefer one of other three seafood markets in the Inlet. I preferred MIS, primarily because of the soup. In the pre-Covid days they had cauldrons of 3-4 different soups and you could serve yourself. My favorite is the New England Clam Chowder. Since Covid, they kept the soup in the kitchen and pre-filled plastic containers. Though no longer hot, it was still chock-filled with clams and veggies. Though not inexpensive ($12.99/qt) is was worth it to me. We recently had dinner guests coming. I bought two quarts of chowder, along with a bunch of clams and grouper. Upon getting home I realized that the price of the soup had been gone up to $19.99 (over 50%). But the insult to injury was, after raving about the soup to my guests, finding that it was almost all broth with very little clam and veggies. Sad to see. No reason for me to go back. read more

My husband and I stop in here once or twice a year usually in December. We look forward to trying their homemade soups to go! They are something special and super delicious! I have never really been a fan of soups but I always look forward to stopping in to sample their soups. Last week we dropped in to pick up their New England Clam chowder and tomato basil/crab soups. It was a chilly rainy day and the soups were just what we needed. They also have gourmet dips, sauces and all kinds of goodies for you to take home. We bought some of their homemade pimento cheese to take back to the room with us and it was delish! Their locally made Carolina Smacker crackers are perfect with their soups. Charged $35 per dozen of live crabs & they were the tiniest, lightest & the absolute worst crabs I have ever gotten. Also, they were mixed & we weren't even told that when purchasing. Also I had to pay for them at the time I ordered so I couldn't get my money back. Plus 5 were dead when I got home & they would not make good on them. Ugh!! Huge selection of fish, oysters, clams, mussels, soups, lobster....if you're looking for shellfish or fresh fish, they probably have it, and at reasonable prices. Brought the crabs home, and dug in. Yelp directed us here after a great day at Huntington Beach. We wanted to bring home some fresh caught seafood to throw on the grill and this place delivered. The friendly owner recommended the red snapper and jumbo shrimp, both local and caught that day. We also picked up some blue crab/shrimp fritters and their homemade lime wasabi dipping sauce. All were amazing and made for an incredible dinner. We had a cooler and an hour's drive ahead, so they packed it full of ice for us to keep the fish fresh. Great food, great service. My first visit, three weeks ago, to Murrells Inlet Seafood Market would have been rated 5-stars. The service was excellent and the seafood was fresh. The seafood and soup are excellent. However, today I had the unfortunate experience of encountering the 'manager', Jennifer. She was highly unprofessional. When I asked for my crab cake to be placed in a plastic container instead of a styrofoam box, she said, "Well if you are going to be petty, you don't have to buy it". Because of Jennifer's comment, I put my money back in my purse and left the store. This establishment has lost my business until they get a new manager. read more

Very disappointed in the quality of fish. Picked up "fresh" Chilean Sea Bass, when I opened the package to cook, the smell was so strong and the fish was slimy. I had to remove it from the house it was so strong. I should have had a clue when I walked into the market, it had a strong fish smell. Will not return. read more

I will always make a trip all the way down to the end of restaurant row (past other fish places) to buy fresh fish, tuna dip, and homemade tartar sauce from Rick so I can cook a meal in our condo rather than go out. We have been coming here for years and make a stop every time we are lucky enough to find ourselves at the beach. Sure the place may smell a little like fish, but any fish place I've been into does. I recommend this to any visiting friends and family we have coming to town. Rick always recognizes us when we walk in even though we only make it to town a few times a year. They have a chef who prepares fresh homemade soups every day, from butternut crab, Manhattan clam chowder, tomato basil blue crab. There are lots of other choices to depending on the day. Be prepared to enhance your taste buds and your wallet. Food was amazing but honestly enjoyed the appetizers more than my entree. My husband had a steak and he really enjoyed it. I had a fish dish (special) and it was just ok. Kids had sushi and I tried and it was tasty, by far one of the best we've had. Be prepared if you are a family of 6, your bill will be a little more than $350 with tip. Ordered a bushel of oysters for Super Bowl. While in the store we purchased fresh made crab cakes....they were awesome....very little filler. We also purchased 2 sizes of shrimp....large cleaned with tall on for grilling and medium cleaned for sautéing...the prices were excellent. Last year my husband and I purchased some wonderful jumbo crab from this company and made delicious crab cakes. This year we were very disappointed in the poor taste and at $27/lb. Checked the container and discovered it was from Venezuela. Please please let your customers know when you are selling them a product that is not local. We may forget to ask if it is local but we will always remember that you did not take the time to tell us it was from Venezuela when we were thinking it was local. read more

Absolutely love this seafood market. We drive 2 1/2 hours one way to buy our seafood here. Crab cakes are the best I've ever tasted. They always have a great variety and not just fish they have homemade award winning soups, seafood egg rolls, quiche, pimento cheese, and many homemade sauces. Forgot to mention the homemade pies.
