Charming Lil Town Named for the first US Native American Gold Medal Winner…read more On a mission to ride the Allegheny Santa Train, we visited this beautiful historical town in the mountains of Pennsylvania. It's named after Jim Thorpe, there's even a statue of him and he's buried in this town. It's surrounded by the raw beauty of the mountains, and waters of Pennsylvania. The town's buildings and streets are made of these old fashion bricks, and it almost looks like you've traveled back in time with the shops on main streets. Apparently, this town has an abundance of hiking, rafting and camping, all the good Summer Sports, available to visitors during warmer weather. I definitely would love to return to soaking in nature and enjoying the town's connection to the famed Jim Thorpe. If you get the chance please visit this town, either in Winter for the Santa train or Summer for the sports.

We are from California and went to Niagara Falls and with all the driving we desperately needed to sleep. We intended to rest for five minutes so we kept the truck running for the heater. Next thing you know a woman is at the driver's window asking us to turn the engine off because it was generating fumes. Two hours had passed with the truck running and all 5 of us sleeping! Oops! Well, this woman, who we believed worked for the library in some capacity, was the kindest and sweetest ever. She gave us a bag of animal cookies, chocolate, water, juice, and showed us where the bathrooms were. She didn't leave the truck til we assured her we were okay to drive. "God bless, we love you " she said. She really exemplified that love. She helped turn a rough nite of driving into a funny and completely unexpected experience. I will forever associate the North Pocono Library with this kindness and generosity. Plus they have a great community garden!!

The original section was built in 1890, and is a three-story, ashlar sandstone and limestone building measuring 65 feet wide and 180 feet long. It is in the Romanesque Revival style. They just got approval to have an extension and upgrade to the courthouse. Do to the pandemic, I would recommend calling Courthouse before going, they are not allowing people to come into courthouse for normal reasons. For civil/criminal cases (most) are being done virtual. Making payments, you must mail them in, no in person payments. They are following all guild lines as directed by CDC.
