My family has always supported UCLA and USC through grants and scholarships (so much that there is a foundation with our family name)...and I can't believe this is what we've supported!!
First time I leave a Dr's office wanting to cry.
Dr. walked in 45 min late (the whole time, he had been chit chatting behind the door!).
This was not a yearly check-up: He never asked me to get a complete panel, he never suggested some blood tests (what if I were diabetic?) or a colonoscopy... Never asked "how is your health?". That's what a yearly check-up should be about!!
At his computer, Dr. Murray read me 3 UCLA lab tests from another Dr., (a favor I asked), and only 1 minute was needed for these 3 short lines. Then he started talking about the French he took in school, boringly repeating all his memorized sentences in French (because I grew up in France) and went on about medical students he is training in his office (but do I care??)... After 7 minutes of his killing time instead of taking an interest in anything I was there for (was holding my notepad with questions right before him!), his assistant - who obviously received a "come over!" email from him - opened the door and spent 6-7 minutes with him browsing the web because he didn't know where I could go for allergy tests (I too can browse! Give me your Dr's time!! I have 2 more questions!). When she left, Dr. Murray got up with a "see you next time", to which I replied - looking at the people who went by the door constantly - that I hadn't had a chance to mention two of the reasons for my visit...to which he launched an "Ohhh, I thought you were done, I thought you were done!" and again "I thought you were done!" (repeating his sentences is his way not to give you a chance). Then because I wasn't getting up, he gave me a "Well, tell me". But his body language and the door he left open (after I had him notice it made me uncomfortable) were a clear "I'm done for the day!"(it was 4:58 pm). I left expressing my disappointment, and even heard him say "I charge for a 20 minute consultation" (...and I'm thinking "to practice French???"). This man is old and bored with his job. Not making the effort anymore because he's probably retiring soon. read more
