Wonderful little college town pub! Post graduation was definitely the place to be at!! Sit at the window seats and gawk at the passersby while congratulating everyone at their accomplishments. Met so many locals here randomly that we have to come back in the future! read more

I am a 1998 U of I alum, and haven't been back to campus since 2004. So much has changed since then, but I was so excited to see that Murphy's was still chugging along. The facade may have been updated, along with open-aired seating, but other than that, I got EXACTLY what I remembered. I even found my name engraved in one of the tables, if you could believe it! As time goes, things need to change and update, but I was so thrilled to walk into Murph's and get the same delicious, 'no frills' burger and fries that I did in the 90s, along with a bottle of malt vinegar to go with it! read more

As we were walking around this area looking for a place to play pool my boyfriend and I went down and seen this cute charming little place where we definitely had an amazing time enjoying our drinks at the pool table yesterday . The staff were amazing and did wonderful job super helpful.We both got the cocktail named Pot O Gold whih was simply delicious. Also the music they were playing was from Around 2009 which got me nostalgic from back in High school . and were also planning to return tonight from another round of pool because that's how great your place was . read more

This is just a good ol sports bar in the middle of Green Street! Maybe its the good memories, but this place has stayed pretty consistent and good over the past 15 years I have been visiting. Its kind of a divey Irish Pub, but its relatively clean inside and have friendly bartenders. If you are just looking for a place to grab a drink and watch the game, you have come to the right place. They are not flashy and full of drama like other places around. This is especially nice if you are over 21 and just want to sit down somewhere. Very Alumni friendly. As for the food, its nothing too special, but its still pretty good. They keep it simple. They have a few different menus based on game day so it can sometimes be hard to keep track and figure out what they have. Their pickup is also a little confusing, but the food has always been hot and tasty to me! The bartenders are also generally pretty nice, especially if you aren't a jerk. The prices are also pretty good and their beer menu is sizable. We ended up coming back to this place three times during our trip down to Champaign. Came for a chill lunch on a weekday. Ordered and paid at the bar. We were two of maybe 10 others in the joint. The wait for a sandwich and banger was rather long for such an empty place (+10mins). You pick up the food at the window in the back of the bar. Food is typical pub/bar food. The shoestring fries are dynamite. First time I felt regret ordering the waffle fries for an extra dollar The window seating is good for people watching. read more

Just like it was 30 years ago when these old bones went to college! However, for homecoming at U of I, it's the least craziest place, thank god. You can actually have a conversation with someone without having your ears bleed out. No fee to get in (unlike Kams and some others, OH, KAMS, what happened to you? As my favorite place to drink in Champaign, Murphys has to get 5 stars. The food at Murphys is solid. Not fantastic but solid and you gotta get the Irish Nachos to split with a few friends. The food can take a while to come out, especially if they're busy, so just be patient. The best nights at Murphy's are Wednesdays and Thursdays. Wednesday is logo night so you can grab a pint and keep the glass for under $5 and refills are only $2.50 I think. Phenomenal deal. My cabinets are full of awesome logo glasses thanks to Murphy's. Thursdays are phenomenal because it's $2 pints. Any pint for just $2. You'll never beat that. I hear they may have upped it to $2.50 but that's a good variety of decent quality pints for just $2.50. Go out with a $10 bill and you'll have an awesome night. That simple, that's all you need. read more

In the 1980's Murphy's Pub was famous for their Friday happy hour fish sandwiches. They've come a long way since then. Located in the heart of Illini campus town, they've expanded and updated. You MUST have the spicy cheese balls! THE BEST. The burgers are basic but good. The fries are fantastic-thin crispy tasty. You order at the bar and pick up when they call your number. This place is a great place to stop in for some bar food on a Thursday night when they have their best bar specials but there's a big caveat. This place is on campus so it easily fills up with large groups of drunken college kids during the week when school is in session. I've witnessed one of said kids puking in their cup as they attempted to take a drink. If it's a weekend, the youngins usually find plenty of parties to attend so that's less of a problem, unless its moms or dads weekend where it can fill up just as quickly. They don't even serve their regular menu on nights like this which can be frustrating if you forget about campus life from time to time. Solid pub. Food is exactly what would you expect from this place. Absolutely a classic for Champaign- Urbana and U of I students. Some of the downsides include how dirty it can be, with a lot of sticky surfaces, their old school way of taking tabs that can be inconvenient, their unclear switch between being carded and not being carded, and their seating can be a bit uncomfortable. Went here on a Friday night because I had heard so much about their Irish Nachos. This place was dead. There were about four other people there (doing homework?) and me and my friend. If you're looking for authentic Irish or UK beer -- you won't find it here. They had the typical "Americanized" imports (e.g. Guinness), but not a big selection. The food was tasteless. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food and I don't know how so many people can recommend these nachos when they taste like nothing. Portion-wise it could have given about 3-4 people a nice snack. Additionally, all the booths and tables (wooden) are so carved-up and graffitied that they were uncomfortable. Im from LA and was visiting friends last week! It was karaoke night and the bar was pretty crowded but the service was pretty quick! I felt bad for the workers as I witnessed what another review referred to... I was sitting at the corner of the bar and there was a woman who came up to one of the women workers asking if she was given her card back but shortly after she found her card in her purse. But then later the woman's husband came up screaming saying he wanted free shots because the he thought they had the card behind the bar all along, even though the card was returned. He made a scene and was threatening the bartenders and manager, his friend, that he came with, eventually told the bar that we would buy him a shot and tell him it was free so he would stop screaming like a child. I would be embarrassed if I were him, everyone was giving side eyes. But, I mean I can understand why his wife wouldn't tell him the truth because he seemed insane. Workers handled it very well in my opinion. If I linked up at u of I in the future, I would definitely hit up Murphys again with the boys! read more

Oh man, this is a classic college dive bar. Arcade machines, Pool tables, Dirty bathrooms, Picnic style tables....and $2 beers. I was here on business and decided to stop in for a drink. I came in on a Thursday so perhaps it was a special day, but all their drafts (And they had a surprisingly good list for a college bar) were $2. What a deal! A few people in the group ordered food and said it wasn't bad. I cannot vouch or review the food as I did not partake. From seeing the burgers, they looked pretty decent actually. The process of ordering food was interesting. There are no servers. You go up to the food window, put in your order and give a name. They then call your name over a PA system to the whole bar. The speakers from this PA system sound like they came from the 70s when all you hear is squelching noise. We pretty much looked over at the food window to see if it was us anytime the garbled noise came over the speakers. All in all this place is a dive. If you want this type of thing, go for it! If you want something a bit more upscale with servers and non-bar food, try somewhere else. Personally, I'll be back for the cheap beers next time I am in town! read more

The minimal bare acceptable campus bar for graduate student inhabitation. But only on weeknights. When there are no sporting events. And your car has run out of gas and can't get you out of campustown. And you really need a drink because your advisor just called you to tell you you have to cancel your weekend plans to come over and shovel his sidewalk. The leftover vomit is less tangible, the smoky haze less all-engulfing, and the number of 14 year olds skanks less overwhelming than anywhere else on campus (except firehaus, but apparently no one goes to firehaus despite the fact that it is clean, devoid of skanks, and conveniently located.) read more

I go to Murphys often and I usually enjoy the nice atmosphere However, tonight I was truly disappointed since some of my friend got food and their chicken was LITERALLY raw; the chicken tenders were absolutely pink inside. It was not only really disgusting but also dangerous for them to not notice how well their meat is cooked. If you were to add up the amount of time I spent at Murphy's in college, it would probably be close to the total time I spent in class. Even today, this haunt is still our campus favorite when down in CU for a football/basketball/hockey game. Back in my day, they didn't have the new addition but having the additional space makes it much easier to get a table and some space to move around without affecting the divey-campus bar feel. Wednesday is Logo Glass Night, and I have several boxes of the great glasses I accumulated over the years. Their beers on tap is great, especially for a campus bar. The food is pretty good pub grub, but I believe there is a "game-day menu" where only certain things are served, which is kind of a bummer if you want Irish nachos on game-day because it's not on the menu. The jukebox is great (every fricking song by The Black Keys can be found on there) and there are loads of flat screens to catch whatever game is on. If you get there early, you won't even have to pay a cover. read more
