I was so excited to go to Murphey's with my husband! I had been talking about their pizza all day. We walked in around 6:30pm and the bar was about 1/3 filled. We walked up to the bar and the bartender didn't say "hello" or make eye contact. He disappeared in the back for 5 minutes. He came back out and still did not make eye contact. The person next to us was clanking two empty beer bottles together trying to signal to the bartender he needed a drink. Still nothing. We ended up leaving after 20 minutes of no service. I love this place it's one of my regular haunts. The best pizza I've had in Galveston too. I'm never disappointed.

I showed up on a quiet Thursday afternoon. Bartender Sheila presiding over the bar. I get the impression that Sheila doesn't really enjoy her job or the random patrons that drop by on her watch. I've been here a few times, trying to be fair and open minded. I just can't get behind this place. They really don't want ethnic males coming here. I was ignored, ignored and then ignored some more. I think I finally got the hint "don't come here, we dont want you here, even if we are slow". I wish people did not support this type of behavior, but unless its happening to you, who cares, right? Well, my date did. I felt really bad after bringing here there, but it was in walking distance. Since it was her first time, she figured it was just bad service...but i could see the difference. My friend and I were trying to get pizza at the end of the night and their barstool was out in the middle of the bar area and my friend's foot caught on it and she tripped. They then refused to serve us even though all we wanted was pizza - no alcohol - which I told him multiple times. She had maybe 3 drinks all night and I told him all we want is pizza. We live here in Galveston and come here often for pizza at the end of the night. We sadly will not return, although I have to say they have great pizza, but sad, rude, and poor customer service. How can they not serve us pizza? The barstool was sticking out (we could nearly sue as she had a sore foot due to it) and we were not drunk at all. Trust me - I've been there way worse ;) read more

I normally love this bar for the atmosphere and the food (Reuben sandwich is amazing!) however this time we had a very rude bartender. This male in his 30s with a beard was very unpleasant with seemingly only my fiance and I from the minute we arrived. Hoping that the next time we come we have a better experience. read more

First visited Murphy's on a St. Arnold's Pub Crawl in Galveston and loved it. Though it was the last stop on our tour and so I've waited to write a review until I wait back without the beer goggles. The hubs and I have been there multiple times on a Sunday afternoon after hitting the beach in Galveston. The drinks are well-priced and the white pizza is delicious. On Sundays and Mondays it's only $7.50 for a medium which can easily feed two to three people. The only reason this place gets knocked down a peg is that you can smoke in there. We've been in there many times when no one was smoking (it's usually relatively quiet in there on Sundays...) but when someone is smoking you leave reekin'.... If you're in town, though, stop in for a pint. I would imagine on a Saturday night it'd be a good time - pool table and juke box included! read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Murphey's.... mostly because of the memories I have there, but I Love it! It is a very laid back place... perfect type of bar to just hang out, or to start your night off. Haven't had much of their food, but I have had the pizza and it is super yummy! There was something about it I loved but couldn't put my finger on, until the bartender told me the secret... the put a dash of sugar on top! Sounds weird, but loved it! The drinks aren't too over priced (shots can be... $97 for 12 shots) but if you hit up the specials, it works out ok. The jukebox is expensive, but worth the atmosphere. read more

Went back and finally tried the food and it was a lot better. We tried the pizza and I feel that it is one of the better pizza options on the island. The service was also a lot better than what we last experienced. We have been to trivia a few times and it can be pretty fun. They have two sessions on Monday night; one is at 6 and the other is at 9. read more

Vacationing in Galveston and needed a place to enjoy some drinks for my husband birthday. .. we lucked out. The bartender was very friendly, offered great drinks, and the bar tab was fair. This place also offers food till 2am. At the end of the night the bartender called us a cab. That was very nice .. Thanks for making my husband birthday a good one. read more

Pizza here wasn't terrible; my mate brought me here since he worked the bar way back in his college days... There was a decent selection of beer, enough so that I didn't get bored with just a single glass of whatever flavored water typical bars have. The jukebox is expensive. read more

Sat 03/26 wanted to check out something in the strand area besides the seawall so we came here. Very laid back. Exactly how I expected in atmosphere and layout. (Its a mini sherlocks Westheimer location for all you Houstonians.) Moderatey priced drinks. $10 for both our beverages. Wish it was cheap like Sherlocks & Bakers St!!! He had a pint of zeigenbock and I asked the bartender to make me something fruity so she whipped up a purple fucker. I forgot to tell her I dont like sweet&sour mix...but its ok. I drank it all. I dont waste liquor. Played darts. The bullseye needs more cushion or whatever you call the thing its made out of....bc the dart doesnt stick anymore. They have pool tables but I think its the quarter ones...and I dont play quarter tables--its small. I dont think they have a patio or courtyard but that would be awesome if they had an outdoors area read more

Murphys was good, i went there with a couple friends and had a good time. However i might need to go back because i did go near the holidays which could be the reason it was dead. Building: the actual building was surprisingly pretty big, enjoyed some pool and my friends enjoyed the juke box, a few tvs helped if your a sports fan. Food: did not try it Beer: good selection of beer with decent prices, pitcher of shiner bock was $8. The only complain i have about is the mugs. They were clean but would enjoyed my beer more if they were chilled. Staff: no problem with staff, seemed attentive to our party read more

I am generally a fan of Murphy's. Not sure if it was just the holiday weekend or lazy employees but we showed up at 1:38a (when there's a clear advertisement of an open kitchen until 2:00am) hoping to put in an order for ONE medium pizza and we were turned away because they were 'too backed up' from previous orders and it would be our past 2am "so they can't take it" okay. Welp. Thanks for the fantastic service. Sorry we were 'so late' to order... I would understand if it was 1:58, but idk, maybe me, just slightly annoyed that we seemed to be such an inconvenience to the bartender. read more

I've been here a couple times before and was never impressed, but my boyfriend liked it so we kept coming back. After today, I don't think either of us will be back for quite a while. We walk in, no one greets us or even looks in our direction. We approached the bar and noticed a drink at an empty chair. We asked a curly haired Hispanic bartender if anyone was sitting at the stool where the empty drink was and he said, "Yeah. Me." Okay, no problem. We found different seats as there was pretty much no one else there. He never sat down at the seat we weren't allowed to sit in, by the way. So we settle in and take out our IDs, and we start talking about what we want to order. We wait. And wait. And wait and wait and wait. At a bar where only ONE other patron is seated. Curly headed bartender is standing in the corner just out of my view. The other bartender is talking to the only other customer at the bar. My boyfriend looks him in the eye and says "Hey, what's up, man?" And the bartender looks at him, and goes right back to his conversation with the other customer. I think maybe my boyfriend interrupted him at the wrong time so we keep waiting. And waiting. And waiting. He never said "Give me a second," or "I'll be right with you." Nothing. It was like we were invisible. Eventually I got upset (obviously) and asked my boyfriend if we could just leave. We went down to Mediterranean Chef and had a great dinner with awesome service and left a generous tip. I am so disappointed in the way we were treated at Murphy's Pub and I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there. The absolute worst service I've ever had. I was suggested a modelo especial by the bartender; only to be told that the entire bar was out! Both the female and male bartender were extremely discourteous and disgruntled. I was then served the wrong pizza. Avoid this place at all cost!! read more

The only thing shitter than the dirty seaweed/trash covered beaches in Galveston at the moment, is the service at this bar. Walked in on a Thursday night...there were 8 people in this place, counting the bartender. He acknowledged our arrival by moving from behind the bar, to sit down on a corner stool and drink his own beer, check his iphone, and talk to one of his friends. After waiting a few minutes for him to serve us, he finally got off of his ass, walked over and begrudgingly took our order. Requested two beers....two shots... and the size of the shot he poured wouldn't have gotten Tinkerbelle drunk. Save time and money and go to Molly's instead. The only thing that I come back here for is the crispy hot wings - and only if it's for a quick drink with the co-workers after a shitty day. Other than that - there are plenty other bars on the small island. The service is not great, it gets smoky, and the bathrooms aren't that clean. I've gotten a few room-temp beers from tap, and when returned they gave me a look as if I made it that way myself. But it's a bar in Galveston - what more could you expect? read more

Came to visit from Austin for the weekend and boy was I disappointed. Bourgeois local pub from bridge and tunnel locals. Was sent here by some locals because they had the best pizza in town and apparently the only eatery opened past 8pm. Order a drink that was on"special", I didn't feel special after they told me the price. I went ahead and ordered myself "The Carnivore" pizza. This pizza advertised four different types of meats but was served with only two. The pizza was essentially a rebrand of a Tony's frozen pizza available at your local grocery. The server chain-smoked cigarettes before practically throwing our pizza and condiments at us. If I ever had the pleasure of meeting this Murphy character I'd tell him to burn his establishment to the ground, take the insurance money and just retire with some honor left to his name. read more

We went in to this place expecting to be treated nicely but instead we got a douche bag bartender with a Mohawk. Bartender must have thought it was going to be a regular slow Sunday but little did he know we would have been a lot more generous with tips because we were celebrating a post wedding party. Murphy's is a dive bar in a beach town...so it stinks of cigarettes and has a sticky sandy floor. However, it's in the heart of downton, has a great craft beer selection and the servers are always in a chipper mood. Murphy's is "related" to pretty much every Irish Pub on the Island, or at least in Downtown Galveston, so you'll find a similar selection at several nearby pubs, O'Malleys, Molley's, Old Cellar...etc. read more
