A delightful place. We had the sharing platter for two and enjoyed the curry chicken, goat stew, and chickpeas with chili. Everything was very good, but we especially enjoyed the chicken. The staff was friendly, and we had a nice outdoor seat. I wish we'd gotten dessert but maybe next time. We ate leisurely, and since we didn't get the lunch special it took more time than most people are allotted for their lunch break - but that wasn't an issue for us since we were on holiday. Great food, great cause, and a very friendly service. We went on a Tuesday night, and it was pretty full. There was only one waitress on duty, who managed to remain cheerful while rushing around. Food was excellent, just like we had experienced in Ethiopia. We went for a share platter and used the injera flatbread to scoop out the food to eat. We shared a bottle of wine and the price per person only came to around $40! Very reasonable! The coffee (jebena) took a long time, but we didn't mind sitting there talking. Mu'ooz bills itself as a charity-business, devoted to employing and supporting African refugees. Myself and my group, like most people, look positively on that, but I still basically rate them on the things I would for any restaurant: food, price, overall experience. It was a pretty good place to eat. Indeed, I would note that they exceeded the relatively low bar for service I've sometimes found in Australian restaurants, and handled our reservation and the inevitable questions about our order well. Unsurprisingly, the Eritrean menu looked rather like what you'd expect for Ethiopian cuisine though there is apparently a bit of Italian influence. It's mostly stews with flatbread. They have a respectable vegetarian selection, notably the delicious shiro (based on peas and chilli powder). It is fairly pricey, though the share platters for large groups bring it down a bit. It looks like a small place from the front, but has a decent-sized rear patio. The injera was as spongy as one might hope for, and on the whole, I could see returning. read more

I came upon this restaurant via web search, so I should have known this restaurant's mission from reading the reviews (mental note: Go beyond skimming for "delicious" and "reasonably priced"). I will make this review short and simple. The food is delicious, with a wide variety of textures and flavors. The decor is simple and beautiful. The staff is friendly and knows the menu very well. Terrible! VERY expensive, SMALL servings and poor quality. Don't get lured into the bleeding heart abused African women nonsense fables either. This place is a scam. The 'banquets for two' are entrees, and you will pay TWICE! (The prices are for each person, not the dish!) You will leave feeling poor and hungry, like you have lived through an Ethiopian famine. Feel good while eating wonderful Eritrean cuisine. Had a wonderful lamb dish that was pleasantly spicy. Happy to support this non profit.

So far this is my favorite restaurant in Brisbane. The Eritrean cuisine served here is very similar to Ethiopian food, and also comes with the yummy spongy "sourdough" flatbread called injera. I tried every vegetarian dish on the menu (5 main courses to choose from) and they are all fantastic! With the exception of one dip (which contains yogurt) all of the food is vegan-friendly as well. I especially recommend the Kantisha (mushrooms in tomato sauce). This is the best east African food I have ever tried and I've been to a few places in the United states (Washington DC and New York City) none of which even compared. The service is spot on, and I absolutely love the concept of a non-profit restaurant that supports refugees. A true Brisbane gem! read more

Absolutely love the concept of this restaurant, which is not for profit and uses its proceeds to support African refugees and also gives them training opportunities. I thought the service was good and everyone was friendly. Now on to the food.... which was also tasty and flavorful! We got the shared platter and chose the Barai Zighni (beef curry), Qulwa (lamb), Kantisha (mushrooms in tomato sauce). All of them were good, but I especially like the Kantisha! Delicious African eats and helping refugees at the same time? Yes please! Let me quote here: "Mu'ooz provides employment and trainee-ships for African refugee women building confidence and breaking down cultural and language barriers which impede their social integration. For women who have suffered traumatic experiences of war , poverty and had little opportunity for education, Mu'ooz gives both employment and new opportunities that help the healing process." From the outside it looks quite small, but like most places in West End, keep walking through and you'll find a gorgeous little courtyard out the back with heaps of space. They're not the quickest at bringing out the food, but that's okay, have a chat with your friends while you wait. You can order individual meals or share platters, and they'll split your bill for you too. Score! The meals (which tend to be curries of some description) are all served with rolls and rolls of an African flat bread which is used to eat with your hands. Just how I like to eat! But don't despair, they do provide cutlery. Honestly I found the bread itself a little too sweet, while the meal itself was delicious (I had the goat), so see what works for you. All the staff were super friendly, and it's a great place to visit if you're looking for something a little different. read more

I am in love. I coerced my beau into a dinner date due to a scarily empty fridge, and we braved the seasonal storm on a muggy evening. Mu'ooz doesn't look like much at first glance but the outside seating area is the perfect atmosphere on a muggy night. Staff are so sweet and polite, and we received a spot-on recommendation around drinks; the Kenyan Tusker was perfectly refreshing, and I am a sucker for South African wines. We ordered a vegetarian share plate which consisted of three dishes served on Enjera sourdough bread--similar to a pancake--which is to be pulled into pieces and used to scoop up the main dishes. No cutlery here! I fell in love with the Brusn (red lentil) and the Duba (pumpkin) and Kantisha (mushroom) were great too. For $24 each, plus a bonus Enjera with a selection of dips to start, it was great value. Drinks were around $7-8 each so the bill came to $62. Impressive! Mu'ooz is a not for profit, training and employing women who have arrived from Africa, so you can feel extra good knowing the gorgeous cuisine is also giving back to the community. read more
