It was also a town that was used to film the backdrops for a movie called Snow Falling on Cedars http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120834/ . My parents and many relatives had to relocate there during WW2 and it was there that my mother after many years had found new love in an old friend, my step father. To this day, they have lived there for over 30 years and pretty much all of my stepfathers life. It is a small town with a big heart. Quiet, picturesque, nestled in a valley and an inbetweener from Osoyoos to Grandforks. During the summer it is a destination for recreational motorcyclists to drop in on their way up the province. If you happen to drive through, drop on in for a coffee and a walk through the town and experience an old mining towns charm! It's a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. This being the smallest city in Canada.

"Osoyoos Lake - wonderful views that dominate Osoyoos and surrounding area."…read more We (two seniors and daughter) did a 5-night stay at a beach-side hotel in Osoyoos in June, and one side of Osoyoos Lake dominated the unobstructed, direct view we had from our room's balcony. The ever-changing sights (with the colour changes of the Lake and surrounding mountains over the course of each day), and the natural sounds (of the birds - swallows, gulls, ducks, et al) each day, from sunrise to sunset, were often mesmerizing!! We enjoyed daily beach and street-side walks alongside the Lake, soaking in the various sights & sounds. The street side "boardwalk" alongside the Lake, off Main Street -- extending from a gazebo and benches a short distance from our hotel (the Coast), to Veteran's Park, located just on the other side of the street bridge over the Lake, near the entrance to the downtown area -- was especially enjoyed for early-morning strolls, with the lovely lake and garden views. The beach, both 'up & down' from our hotel, was great for the other walks -- offering up fresh air, exercise, great views of the Lake and surrounding mountains, beach activities, and for dropping in and checking out various properties (hotels, condo's, commercial establishments, and etc.), and other sights along the way. The water was a touch too cool for us for swimming at this time, but we did venture into the shallows at our hotel often, to wade a little, cool the feet, watch and enjoy the birds, and on occasion, catch the sights of fish, and other species using the lake as their home. Many very relaxing, and fascinating moments at the time, and fond memories to bring home. It was mostly very quiet and peaceful on Osoyoos Lake at the time of our visit (with very few power boats, or the like out on the lake doing their thing), so it was a perfect time to reflect on the natural overall beauty of it, and the surrounding mountains. We much-enjoyed the views, and truly-soaked them in during our stay!!! Osoyoos, and Osoyoos Lake ... wow!! what a lovely combination!!

Washington Pass is located all the way in the eastern section of North Cascades...near Rainy Lake. When you're driving along Highway 20 that cuts through the heart of the park, it can't be missed and there's a pretty noticeable sign to grab your attention. Once here, the parking lot has enough spaces available and there's plenty of visitors coming and going throughout the day. After exiting your car, there's a very short paved pathway walk to the overlook. It'll take 5 minutes at the most. Once standing at the observation lookout, you're afforded spectacular views of "Liberty Bell Mountain, Early Winters Spires and Kangaroo Ridge" according to fs.usda.gov. I'd basically categorize the backdrop as a wide open perspective setting of the North Cascades Mountain Range. And there's more! Towards the backend of the viewpoint, if you continue gently climbing over a few rocks, you get another fantastic undisturbed glance from high above Highway 20. Also, if you happen to be visiting on a clear and sunny day, the surroundings can have you speechless. And when getting ready to leave here and move onto the next hike/attraction, you'll be left with fond memories and a newfound motivation for the great outdoors. Some extra details... - 30 minutes is enough time to become acquainted with the scenery. - There are restrooms next to the parking lot. - I visited midday back in July and the sun was well positioned in the sky for good photography. - Right near the trailhead walk towards the overlook, there's a terrific sign mentioning a bunch of Highway 20 Featured Hikes & Sights. I took a picture of the sign. Here are a sampling of recommended trails...Gorge Creek Falls Trail, Diablo Lake Trail, Thunder Knob Trail, Happy Creek Forest Walk, Canyon Creek Trail, Cutthroat Lake Trail and Lone Fir Interpretive Trail. - My next area of the park to explore was situated a few miles west along Highway 20. At the Rainy Pass Picnic Area, I hiked Maple Pass Trail which was a moderately strenuous path and took half the day to complete. I'd suggest attempting Maple Pass Trail if you have the time. Overall, Washington Pass Lookout is a Must-Do stop within North Cascades NP. It well represents what makes this area of Northern Washington so spectacularly beautiful. And really best of all, you don't have to work hard to capture stunning views.

Gorgeous...a must-stop!…read more We recently took a road trip through the North Cascades National Park. Once we arrived at the pass we pulled up to a closed gate, as the roads weren't all open yet for the season. No worries, we walked the road up to the overview from there. The overview is great, a very large parking area, plenty of restrooms, and picnic tables in beautiful settings. We took the path from the lot to the overview...stunning. A "see it in person because pics won't do it justice" type of spot. Take the loop back around to the lot, as the beauty continues and the path is short, but winding and fun. Lots of chipmunks and birds to watch on your short journey. Washington Pass is gorgeous to drive and even more breathtaking to see from above.

Much to our surprise, they didn't look anything like your average farm animal. Some chickens had plumes on the top of their head, making them look like they had a bad hair day; some had furry feet. The rams had four horns that looped around the side of their heads. They also had a dozen colorful birds. After a tour of the farm, we went back to the restaurant where the show was about to start. As the story went on, we were guided to different parts of the ranch. It wasn't a far walk, and the actors, though funny, were convincing. We headed back to the restaurant where we were seated with a few people we didn't know. Many people from Kelowna are friendly, so we didn't mind. Clues were passed around so we can guess who the murderer was, write it on a piece of paper and submit it for drawing. Before they revealed the murderer, we feasted on a buffet dinner, complete with an array of salads, veggie sides, prime rib, and desserts. When we were done, they revealed the murderer. The funniest part was reading what people have submitted for drawing. The first one who got it right got a CAD 50 gift card to the O'Keefe Ranch Gift Shop. You can't beat 50 bucks a person for both the show and dinner*! The show and dinner is only scheduled twice a year. Check their website calendar.

We went just passed the 2km mark from the Myra parking lot which is after the first tunnel. All in it was 5km round trip for us. At the parking lot you can rent bikes and there is also washrooms. We were able to drive up with our rental Toyota Corolla, but we did take it quite slowly as there were many potholes. The road was wide enough for 2 cars to pass along most of the route. Just before the parking lot, there were bike rentals/reservations recommended -- but we were planning to walk. Parking lot is quite large, but was close to full when we arrived around 11 am. The trail is well-maintained, wide, and is used by walkers and bikers. On our day there, the bikers included young children, couples on mountain bikes, adults on eBikes, and bikers participating in a bike race. Sharing the trail with the latter was unfortunate because they zoomed past us at high rates of speed and didn't observe the guidance that they needed to yield to walkers on the trestles (bridges). We walked a few hundred meters past the 4 km marker, at which point we turned back upon reaching a sizable puddle (and recognizing that we had to walk back!). Our total walk was 8 km plus (or exactly 6 miles). We walked over 11 trestles, numbered 18 to 8, and through two tunnels. Views of the canyon, and of Okanagan Lake in the distance, were beautiful. There were regular benches to stop to enjoy the views. There was a shelter, with a long bench at the 2.9 km mark. Pit toilets are at the parking lot and at the 4.0 km mark. There are also 3 picnic tables, with aggressive chipmunks, near 4.0.
