Coyote Cruises is located in Penticton, B.C. and is essentially a tube & party rental place that operates in the channel. They are only open during the summer! They have a 4 person float and a 2 person tube. Both are really good quality! They also provided shuttle service to take you back to the entry point. Coyote Cruises made floating down the Channel an easy and fun experience. My crew got lucky and booked just a day or two out, but highly encourage advanced reservations as this gets super busy. We rented a quad floater at $25/pp. This included the shuttle ride back from the end point - pretty solid deal! They have a ton of other items available to rent as well - waterproof speakers, coolers, phone bags, dry bags, and food/snacks for purchase. They really set you up, including an oar included in the rental, which is necessary Coyote Cruises staff were all super helpful and friendly! They're also dog friendly, as my friends were able to bring their pet along for the trip (has to fit in lap for the shuttle ride back though). TIP: book as early in the day as possible. Not only will you beat the heat, but also more importantly the crowds. The entire parking lot was filled up once we finished our float. read more

My son and I went June 25th for our first time, so the water was higher and faster but it was still good. Wear a lot of sunscreen, a hat and bring drinks. Watch out for the thorny tree way down the channel, we got caught in it and the thorns were about 1 1/2" long We got to see baby ducks, a turtle with a black box attached to its back, eagles, & quail with their babies during our time floating. The only part we didn't like was the slippery stairs, they warn you about it a lot, but it could easily by fixed by scrubbing them every so often, then people wouldn't have to worry about getting injured or falling in. Would definitely do the float again, but would slather a lot of extra sunscreen on, I forgot my thighs and can hardly walk today read more

We all float down here. - Pennywise Our road trip crew made a stop in Penticton to get in on this lazy river float down a man-made channel. If you love doing almost nothing for a couple hours, this is totally the thing to do. OK. OK. That makes it sound lame. It's not. It's really enjoyable. You can rent a tube or bring your own. If you want a lift back, you'll need to pay for that. Conveniently, there are options for tube + bus, as well as just the bus. For tube rental options, there are single tubes, doubles, and quads. the tubes they provide are quite robust. Quads can be connected to other quads to create floating islands for all your friends. In hindsight, I think it would have been cool to rent the quads since that would have allowed us all to float together without struggling against the current to reconvene. There are two points available to end your trip down the channel safely. The halfway point is about 1-1.5hrs, whereas the final point is about 3hrs. We decided to travel the full length which, for myself, felt a little too long. Perhaps I should have brought some Super Soakers or something to pass the time. All in all, it's a pretty cool experience. With the right people and on the right day, it's definitely a good use of time. LOVED it. What a FUN day out. We went once this month and it was fantastic. I did a lot of research about the tubing before I went because I'm a little high maintenance about these things, so I'll share by findings: What to do: *If you plan to go more than once, purchase your own float. The rental is $5, but if you will go several times, definitely purchase your own. *Go early in the day. The later it got, the more people we saw on the canal. *The rental tubes have a bottom that you can put sunscreen, water, etc... in. It'll get wet but it won't float away. *Bring sunscreen, a waterproof camera, and possibly a bottle of water. We found the water wasn't really needed. *You MUST wear water shoes. Don't wear flip flops as they may float away. *Everything says you shouldn't tie the floats together, but I would disagree. Bring a rope and tie your floats together. The canal is so slow moving, it won't be a problem. *If you have an option, have someone pick you up at the end. The line to get on the bus is long and can take a long time. *Bring a waterproof case for your phone. I had one for my iPhone that had a lanyard attached. It was a great choice. We could take photos and then call for our ride at the end. *Bring an extra float for drinks or a cooler. *Bring a waterproof bag for your car keys/car remote. You don't want to destroy the electronic key. What NOT to do: *Don't bring glass on the river or any trash. *Don't bring loud music. Details: *The water flow seemed good and it took 45 minutes to get to the 1/2 way point and 2 hours to get to the end. Both exits are on the right side as you are floating. The midway point doesn't have a lot of warning. *Easy steps in and out of the water. *It's $5 to rent a tube and it's $5 to get a bus ride. You can pay for one of both. We opted just for the tube rental and got a family member to pick us up. We definitely made the right choice. *CASH only. I was worried about falling out of the tube, but once I was in the tube, I was good to go. The only problem we ever had was ending up on the sides and slowing down too much. 15$ to blow up two floaties!!!! It used to be a buck per. On top of that the previous 5$ bus ride is now 10$ per person. Total rip off! It also took an hour waiting in lines to buy tickets and then to get the tubes inflated, they are way understaffed!! New management sucks! Will not being doing it again with them , I'll go to a gas station to inflate my tube and pay a cab with two other people and save myself some money!!!! read more

So we packed up 6 adults and 6 kids for a fun afternoon. Checked the times on the website AND the automated voicemail. It says open 10 to 5. So after sun screening and hydrating everybody, we made our way to Coyote at 4:20pm. Plenty of time right? WRONG! They were closed. Everybody was still there, just refusing to help us. They say they close at 4pm. Where are the signs saying that? Just a shrug from the "manager" who was slumped in a chair dealing with literally 6 crying kids from behind his one-way sunglasses. There was ZERO acknowledgement of any confusion their "opening hours" could have caused. "Come back tomorrow" was his only solution. Unfortunately we just drove an hour here from Osoyoos, and that's not an option to do again. While we were there, another couple arrived, and they had actually called to confirm times in the morning. They were also out of luck. More shrugs. It makes me think that this operation is just run by a bunch of teenagers who make their own hours as they see fit. Or an owner who doesn't care to make his operation hours clear. Who knows, we will be back, but will NEVER use their services. Too bad. read more

I came down with my girlfriend and it was her first time on the canal. It was 4:02 and they told me they've closed 2min ago at 4pm and they wont rent us the equipment because the group just left a min ago. WTF ?! I thought a little fat girl with curly black hair was joking, and I asked if she was serious to which she replied, YES. Wow ... I'd be speechless if it wasn't for Yelp. Just go to Canadian Tire, buy your own tube and take a cab back to your car. It's a sure thing and you wont be dealing with assholes. read more

I traveled all the way here from Squamish bc with 2 children just to do this float trip. I called before I was leaving my hotel and asked if they took credit cards and was told they closed at 12:30pm due to air quality and then she accidentally let it slip that there wasn't enough business. Don't tell me cause it's air quality like you care and then say that not enough people are using your services. If they had enough customers they would stay open. Either don't open at all cause of air quality or stick to your business hours. What a complete joke!!!!! read more

The Coyote Cruise is a service that transports happy sogging wet rafters from the midway point and the end point of the Penticton River channel. On this particular day, it started off late in the evening, we went down the channel in our little inflatable boats and rings without paddles. Ok. a nice float down the channel, some relaxation, conversation, laughter and screams. Screams???? Heck yeah! It started to drizzle, then thunder, then lighting. then really close lighting and then massive downpour! It got cold and we paddled for our lives to get to the midway point as quick as we could go. All in all, it was a blast, but it would have been much much nicer had the weather cooperated with our plans. :( Do it again? You betcha! Just not when there's lightning so close by. read more

Great fellow floaters, everyone is there to have a good time. Only thing that detracted from a 5 start experience was we had to wait 20 mins to get tubes because they ran out. Likely because we went right in the middle of peak season (August on a Sunny day. Also keep in mind water levels affect your completion time. We had fast-moving water so did it in 2 hours (some people do it in 3+ hrs). No longer offer half-way pickup service (though the halfway point still has a food & drink stand). Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated & be sure to have a proper dry sack/wet bag (and seal it properly!) to store your valuables in. read more

We had an awesome time tubing! Coyote cruises was organized and the whole process was smooth! We parked, got our tubes and were in the water in about 15 minutes. After the float, the bus was waiting for us and we barely had to wait at all. They provided us with masks and hand sanitizer. They followed specific Covid guidelines and also handed out before boarding the bus. We liked it so much we booked for another day. The weather turned out to be not that great. We did run into one small issue which was disappointing, and when texting Coyote Cruises they more than took care of us and validated our issue. Great fun! Great value! Good physical distancing activity! We booked a 4 person tube for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids ages 8 and 9. We were pleasantly surprised to be handed a giant orange tube that had a mesh bottom and plenty of room for the 4 of us and our cooler! We took a light swim backpack to carry our thongs. We intended to tie it on but with all the space it wasn't necessary. We just left them floating in the mesh. As first-timers, the instructions at the send off were great. They showed us pictures of what the exit signs looked like and helped us launch. With the mesh bottom, you could cool off without leaving the tube, but my husband and one of the kids jumped out and swam alongside as well. The mesh bottom would be ideal for very young children! It was the end of July and they told us that the dam was still fully open so it was a quick ride at about 1 hr 15 mins, but you could go again with your wristband (just not on a quad). We ended up going twice more, both times on double tubes which are more traditional tubes with open donut holes The girls actually seemed to enjoy this more as they were able to get in and out of the tube or just dangle their legs. We had a short piece of rope that we held at times when we wanted to stick together. *Note that tying tubes together is not permitted. We had a soft insulated cooler bag from IKEA that we tied off onto one of the tube handles and dragged it along in the water. There are washrooms at the launch area and an Edo Japan about a 4 minute walk from the launch if you need to feed the troops. There is also a food truck at the exit area, but we hopped on the bus right away so didnt see what they had. The buses were pretty quick and they sprayed your hands and gave you a disposable mask before you got on. Our bus driver was fabulous. Really loves her job and it shows. There are washrooms at the launch area. Along the channel we saw fish, ducks at the waters edge and barn swallow nests in the bridge rafters. It was pretty neat to see ducks flying beside you - you don't often get to see them at that angle! We paid $120 taxes included for the tube rental, bus trips and a waterproof iphone case on a lanyard. The case and lanyard is highly recommended - we saw two iPhones in the bottom of the channel that day and it was also nice to get some photos. Our whole family had a great day in the water. We thought it was great value and a great family activity and will definitely do it again next year! PS if you have snorkels and goggles, bring them! read more

5-star experience, 1-star business. In other words, a must-do! but plan ahead to mitigate the weaknesses of the operation. What it is: A mostly DIY float down a swiftly moving river, fun but not at all scary, which lasts from 45m to 2+ hours, depending on whether you do the half version or the full version, and depending on the day and speed of the current. Bring your own inner tube, boat or lounger -- or rent one from Coyote. If you bring your own, you can pay to have it inflated. Pay Coyote for the bus ride back from the end of the ride to your van. Why to do it: - The rare activity that is completely delightful WITH kids, but would also be totally fun without kids. - The fun and refreshment of being in water without having to put down your beer. - An activity that structurally requires everyone to put down their electronic devices and actually talk. If you've needed a distraction-free opportunity to talk with your kids about puberty, or to explain the NSA surveillance program, or to break the news that mummy and daddy won't be able to pay for private school anymore, you are guaranteed two uninterrupted hours of their attention. Warnings: - Despite the promise of life jackets, Coyote only had a single kid's life jacket on hand (!!) I complained loudly until they turned up a second (still technically too large) one. And thank heavens I did, because my daughter fell out of her inner tube, and she could easily have run into trouble in the swift current. - Don't do this if you have any kind of time limit. We got off at the halfway mark, and it took an hour to get back to the starting point by bus. We waited 20 minutes for the bus, which THEN went to end-point of the run, so it's not clear we saved any time by getting off at the halfway mark. Then again, the bus line at the end of the run was VERY long, so there may have been quite a wait to get the bus from there. - The supply of inner tubes may not keep up with demand -- you may have a bit of a wait. - If you are hoping to travel as a group, get in the water as a group; drape legs over one another's tubes to stay together. - As others have noted, there is no secure place for your stuff -- though they held our personal items at the cash desk, which worked fine. - We had the PERFECT weather for this activity (a day with a high of 30 degrees Celsius, at the very end of July) and it was heaven. But if it had been much warmer we would have broiled in our tubes. And if it had been much cooler, our butts would have frozen as we floated along. As it was, it was perfect -- the water (when we swam in) was refreshing but not at all bracing...the sun was warm but not scorching. - The water is much deeper than it looks (don't count on being able to stand, even if it looks like you can) and the current is VERY strong. There is very little help available to catch you at the halfway point, and no warning that you are getting there, so don't count on being able to stop. - The exit at the halfway mark is VERY rocky, so you will be happy to have aqua socks or (possibly, if you can hold onto them) flip flops. What to pack: Based on our observation of better-prepared people, here's what I recommend bringing along for the ride: - life jackets for the kids -- don't rely on Coyote for this! - aqua socks or water-friendly sandals that will spare your feet during the torturous walk across the rocks - a wetbag for holding your keys, snacks or anything else you want on the ride - sunscreen, in a pocket you can reach while in your tube, for when you realize that you need to put sunscreen on the soles of your feet - sunhats and sunglasses - a snorkel and mask! we watched a brilliant guy float along on the OUTSIDE of the tube, with his face in the water -- he basically just used the tube to keep afloat, and enjoyed the uninterrupted view of the river bottom - a waterproof case for your phone and/or waterproof camera -- we wished we had one!! - cold drinks (preferably beer) -- and if you happen to have one, one of those floating coolers - something to feed the ducks (my husband thinks that this is probably bad for the ducks, but the kids insist on it -- and it is pretty hard to resist feeding a duck that is swimming alongside you) - a smile!! Though you're pretty much guaranteed to pick one up en route Your best plan: - We loved this so much, and were so sorry that we only did the half version, that we are planning a repeat visit. This time we are going to drive to the END of the route, near Skaha Lake Park, and look for parking there (which may be tricky). Then we are going to load our OWN deflated floatation devices onto our bikes, and take the easy, flat and beautiful bike path up the river for a roughly 30 minute ride to Coyote Cruises. By then we'll be ready for a dip, so we'll lock up our bikes and stash our keys in a waterproof bag. While visiting Kelowna we decided to take a trip out to Penticton to do a relaxing float down the channel. We had a nice time and enjoyed the hot sun! About this place: parking is very limited so you may have to park a ways away. The area is crowded but you move through the line ups quickly. It cost us $10 per person which included a tube rental and a bus ride back to the start. The water was shallow enough that it didn't intimidate the not so great swimmers, and their was lots of families out there with little ones. They do allow alcohol and smoking on the channel which can make for some obnoxious language to listen to (same goes for the bus ride). The website stated the float was approximately 2 hours, however ours was 45 min. This time variation should be expected as water levels change. The other tip is that you are only allowed to do half the channel run, not the full when you rent from them. You can however do the full channel on your own. I would recommend this adventure to anyone looking to try something safe and new. read more

DON'T USE COYOTE CRUISES!!!!!! It was pouring rain so we came off the channel early and walked to the end assuming we can catch the bus. It took half an hr for it to come, that busy was full so we waited another half hr for the second one and then they said we can't get on because we don't have a armband so I told the driver i have cash to pay for it but he told me to get off the bus because it's against their policy for people to pay cash for it so we had to walk back to the car for 30mins in the freezing cold. There was no sign anywhere saying you need an armband. And how they can abandon two freezing young girls is beyond me. Coyote Cruises needs to rethink how they deal with people, and let people pay cash if they want to. It's better to bring two cars down and not bother with this. read more

Always did the channel for 25 years, 2 or 3 times per visit! Went this time, the guy was extremely rude as it was 10:45 and he said "Open at 11:00" and walked away from us! Then we noticed the sign inflation starts at $5.00! We always paid $2.00 so asked how much and he said $15.00 to inflate our floaty! OMG are you kidding for AIR!! So we left! Will spread the news around our Resort total Rip-off! Shame on them and a word to Penticton "Take Back the Channel" as it was an awesome fun family friendly experience! This is inexpensive. This is fun. You can spend as little or as much energy as you want. I paddled against the current for about 3/4 of an hour and got very sore arms. It was great! Two things to note: the employees assume that you know what is happening and that you've done it before - typical of small town amusements - but if you haven't and you don't know what is happening or where you should go or what you should expect - you can ask and they will give you lots of details and directions in a friendly and non-condescending way. They are very nice. The second thing is that you need to wear good waterproof sunblock. Trust me our bellies are burned- burned. But we would totally do it again. read more
