Our room had a bathroom sink that was plugged up and even after asking the manager to please fix it, it was still very slow to drain after we returned to the room. The worse part was the dirty futon furniture in room 205 which definitely needed to be replaced as I don't think it could be cleaned to satisfaction. It was gross. We kept a towel on it. The bathroom shower curtain did not cover enough so water got on the floor and there were no bath mats. Also, they were short of hand towels! Overall, it was way too expensive and I would never be comfortable staying there again. Our friends had a nice big room with kitchen and all, but no hot water in their bathroom sink. I went to Duluth with my boyfriend and stayed here Thursday night. It was the cheapest place we could find online. It was very easy to find. We got there and we loved it. It's small - very small, but perfect for just the two of us. The room was clean looking and smelled nice when we got there. There was a tv with local channels on it, a refrigerator, and a microwave. It was 10 minutes to downtown Duluth. They had firewood to use at the firepit in the back, free passes to the zoo (up to 4) which was right up the road, and bikes to use on the trails by their property. By the ice machine they also had board games that you can borrow for the night. Breakfast was simple, but good. They had some fruit, typical cereals, eggs and sausage, toast, milk and orange juice, and a waffle mix. Check out was at 11, but they didn't mind that we stuck around a little later to finish breakfast. read more

Munger Willard Inn - Room with 1 full sized bed, mini fridge, and microwave - Hotels Near Me - Duluth, Minnesota

Made a reservation through BringFido and checked to make sure there was no pet size restrictions (there were none listed, just a very reasonable $25/night fee). My husband drove up with one of our dogs from Texas to go see his mom (didn't want to inconvenience her by staying at her place). Hubby shows up, finds out they changed his room from a double to a Queen (including the additional rate charge) and they had a problem with a large dog. The rudeness from the owner was unacceptable. He told my husband "if you don't like it you don't have to fu**ing stay here". My husband drove to his mother's and I called BringFido to make sure we were not charged and to get our trip insurance refunded. The person I spoke with at BringFido called the Willard Munger Inn and got attitude as well. I applaud Bringfido, as they provided exemplary customer service. Too bad I can't say the same for the Willard Munger Inn. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. read more

What a wonderful place! Sorry I did not find this gem before now. Wonderful hosts, very kind and accommodating. Our room was very spacious and very clean. A very comfortable bed with wonderful bedding. Areas to place our suitcases out of our way, A sofa, desk, end table, side tables and even a kitchen table with a wonderful kitchenette. The fridge and microwave were nice and the window fabric blinds were really nice too. We even had a flat screen TV. We had our own private deck with gas grill, table and chairs and a beautiful yard area with out own fire pit with more chairs. A wonderful breakfast with more than enough choices were complimentary. And the very best part, they loved our yellow lab and welcomed him too. What a gem of a place. We will be back. read more

Awful. I've attached pics of the bathroom in room 102. Be sure to zoom in so you can see the huge fungus growth on the wall. The in-room "hot tub" is a small Jacuzzi bath. The TV and blow dryer were broken. I sincerely regret that we stayed here. Maybe some of the other rooms are nicer? This one should never have been offered. read more

Almost a year since our horrible stay at Willard Munger Inn, currently planning our next visit to Duluth and still upset by how nasty dirty our room was, ewwwwww. Stay far away from here! read more

Willard Munger Inn I did not check in personally but my husband did. Check in went smoothly with the exception that a in the dog in the lobby seemed to want to "greet" guests by jumping on them. STRIKE 1. The room was small and it was $100+ a night. (but that is what the cost is in Duluth). We did not get fresh towels or bath mat or take out the garbage from Wednesday to Thursday or Thursday to Friday and we were staying two nights. Wednesday check in to Friday check out. STRIKE 2 Breakfast Friday morning. Black lab lounging in the breakfast area begging at tables. Water dish for the dog(s) under the juice/beverage/plate/ utensils area. The dog was also wagging its tail where the plates/utensils were stored. SO MUCH dog hair. STRIKE 3. Check out. It went fine. When I expanded verbally on the issues I was told that "stay overs" do not receive full service--only basic of dry towels, trash taken out and bed made. No fresh sheets. I don't expect fresh sheets when I am staying less than a week. Not even at an AI. The check out staff thought I wanted full service. I wanted only dry towels, dry bath mat, trash taken out, and more coffee packets. I explained that to them. The shower was slippery. Did not use the fire ring because it was 85 degrees in the afternoon. STRIKE 4 I asked if it would be OK if we could leave the car in the lot since we would be riding the Willard Munger Trail that day. They said it would not be a problem. Thumbs up for that. At the end of the day I asked the lobby guy if I could change my clothes since I was in sweaty bike stuff and we had a way to drive to home. "No problem" was the answer. RIGHT ANSWER. In the lobby restroom where I changed my clothes the toilet seat was up and there was no paper towels to dry hands. I let the lobby guy know that the towels were out and he thanked me BUT did not do anything about it. Not sure if we will be back. The reason I choose this location is because it was SO close to the trail. (Business/mini vacation. STRIKE ONE Dogs in the lobby STRIKE TWO Housekeeping STRIKE THREE Dogs Don't like the begging/jumping dogs. Don't appreciate the "oh sorry" attitude and making excuses for the bad training of the housekeepers. Probably going back to the Motel 6 for fewer $ per night. read more

The owner is a creep. I stayed three nights and one night I had to switch rooms to a downgrade. The check in person said I would be able to stay in my original room until the other room would be available. They had the owner come kick me out of the room and then proceeded to kick me out of the motel completely for what reason I do not know. The motel itself is okay. Mediocre to say the best. read more

This place was nice and quaint for the price. The room was clean with nice wooden panels and decorative quilts. For a roadside motel, it offered nice amenities, including the feel of a cabin in the woods. Free continental breakfast was advertised on Expedia however I was pleasantly surprised to see that in addition to standard Continental there there were waffles, scrambled eggs, and sausage served up with fresh hot coffee and orange juice available. It is clear that this is family-run and a lot of pride is taken in this hotel. Although I wasn't expecting it we were all so privileged to be able to borrow bikes and go to the Duluth Zoo across the street I'll added value for the price that we paid of $75 plus tax. I would definitely recommend this quaint little Motel read more

Our family has stayed here for years and we've always had good experiences. However this May we stayed and experienced rude treatment by front desk staff member. She was distracted, impolite, and spent most of her time on the phone on a personal phone call. We felt like we were a major inconvenience for her rather than a valued guest as we've felt in the past. I did receive an apology from the owner but mostly he just excused her behavior. In my book, a small business needs to make sure they keep their good reputation. In this case, one really bad experience has ruined the motel for me. I won't go back again as long as staff like this is employed. We also had the cat pee smell problem. read more

I stayed here for 3 days while in Duluth recently. I was really pleased! The outside of the place is VERY deceiving. The inside of the rooms are really nice, have that "up north" feel to them, and are spacious and clean. It backs up to trails and they have bike rentals that are free! They also are right across the street from the zoo, and if you ask the front desk, they will give you a pass for 4 people to get into the zoo for free. There's a nice little court yard in back, fire rings and grills to use. There's also a little coffee shop in the parking lot that is fantastic! I am glad I found this little gem for my very frequent trips to Duluth. read more

We love this place. They are small, quaint, inexpensive, and accept dogs. They are not fancy or corporate. You will not have a mint on your pillow, or modern art on your wall. You WILL have a fabulous conversation in Minnesotan with the person at the office, campy northwoods decor, and a great place to sort your gear and shower before or after camping, canoeing, hiking, or other outdoor adventures. They have decks with bbqs and a bit of grass in the back. I truly love this place and stay here whenever we are heading through Duluth on adventures with our dogs. read more

Room was very nice. Jacuzzi was great! Service good. Private deck excellent. Found out dogs can stay!

Could not be worse. No hot water in the shower. None of the light switches worked. Breakfast was disappointing. Air conditioning kept the room at a humid 76 degrees in July. Plug in sockets were barely screwed into the wall. Incredibly disappointing experience. I could have spent half as much at a Super 8 and had a much better experience. And for all that trouble: $30 rebate. read more

I had to stay at the Munger Inn for 6 weeks with my 9 year old and 1 year old this winter for 6 weeks due to our house being remodeled. We were asked to pay the $2,000+ for our stay up front and were told it was non refundable. Well, apparently they mean no matter what condition their rooms are in. We got moved a few times early on for weekends as our room was already booked during those weekends. The first time we couldn't even stay there because I couldn't even get the temperature up to 60 degrees in the room! The room we were in the majority of the time was so gross I went and got my own cleaning supplies in order to clean the grime off the walls and coffee table, I had to put towels around the toilet that leaked and despite DAILY requests my trash was never taken out and I had to go get clean towels if I wanted them. After we'd been there 4 weeks there was a rodent(a mole to be exact) in our room making noise and chewing up my 1 year olds toys. When I called the front desk(who I found out was the owner) he said he didn't have traps and he'd try to figure it out tmrw. My room wasn't getting cleaned unless I did it myself so I had my 1 yr old stay elsewhere that day due to animal droppings and chewed toys being pretty unsanitary. The next day I called and they still hadn't done anything so after arguing with the staff (trying to tell me I was lying) I told them I took a video of it running across my floor, so they filled my room with sticky traps, while I had curious kids in my room that isn't the best idea. Never did they even offer to move us for a few days until the rodent was caught. Also, my car had gotten stuck in their parking lot around this time due to the ice and I had asked if they had sand or salt or if someone could sit and drive while I pushed even as it was just me and my 1 yr old in the car and the owner told me it wasn't his problem before I had a breakdown crying and he finally helped! At this point I was done, I told them they could keep my money up through another week but I wanted the last 2 weeks of it back and wanted to leave where I was told no, that it was non refundable as they stated. So apparently, they do not care if you have heat, rodents, a clean room, clean towels, working utilities, or if you can't get your car to move with your baby in it in their parking lot, once you pay them you are screwed. By far the worst experience I've ever had. Not to mention the walls are paper thin and the owners sister was next door swearing loudly and saying some things I won't even repeat let alone wanting my children to and the person working was too afraid to say something to her... False advertising. They took the time to make some cute rooms but they weren't clean and we had to go buy cleaning products and toilet paper. The shower was really bad and the air conditioner was very nasty. It would have been cute but looked like it was being worn out stains in the rug, tv very small, lamps broken, didn't replace toilet paper, or towels. Price was wayyyyyy to high. Breakfast was not good. read more

My husband and I have stayed here a few times but not for a couple years, until this last weekend. Our room reeked of cat pee, was small and the jacuzzi had to be crawled over to get to the faucet. Breakfast was incredibly cheap, with off tasting waffle mix, generic cereal and instant milk. We rode our bike to the hotel and had asked for a couple gallons of water and were made to feel like it was a huge inconvenience for them. After hours of waiting we got a small gas station bottle of water delivered by a small child. Probably the one that constantly ran in and out of a slamming door until almost midnight. Then they had the nerve to charge us like it was a 5 star hotel. We will never stay here again. read more

I'll never stay anywhere else when I'm in Duluth! This place is oozing kitschy charm! Family-run. Staff was sweet and accomodating. The owner's black lab hangs out, she's a sweet chill dog. Great free breakfast, could use some hard boiled eggs or something protien-wise, but the cereals, french toast, fruit, juice, and waffles were great! Free daily newspapers. Free passes to the Zoo. Free mountain bike rentals. We took advantage of the free boat rental, which was great. It's conveniently situated near spirit mountain, tons of trails, etc. Not the place to stay if you came to Duluth to bar hop, it's closer to the outdoorsy stuff. We stayed in the cheapest room available and it was super cute. Very "woodsy" grandma-esque aesthetic, complete with quilt, shams, and lamps with mooses on them. All rooms have a fridge, microwave, phone, and hairdryer. Our room was clean and odorless. New smaller flatscreen with deluxe cable. The bathroom was a little run down, nbd. There were fire pits out back, and some of the rooms have hot tubs, kitchenettes, back decks, and grills! Also, they recycle and compost, which is great. I love this place! So nice for such a fantastic price! read more

I was very impressed with this place! First of all, it was so affordable. It was $25 less than Motel 6 (on the night we stayed there), and MUCH, MUCH less than most of the other places to stay in Duluth. But you wouldn't know it because it was a very well-run and nice establishment. The rooms were really nice, with a cabin in the woods feel to them. And we got free bikes to use and also a canoe! We didn't use the zoo passes, but they were available too. And a free breakfast and newspapers too. Really nice all around. I would highly recommend this place. read more

I was very upset with this place. Our room looked nothing like the website. We had a 15x12 room! I don't think I've ever been in a hotel room this small. The toilet shifted and I was afraid it was going to start to leak, we had to use a jack knife to lift the drain up to use the bathroom sink, the heat appeared to be broken and it was 80 degrees in there. The breakfast was nothing like what we were told when we checked in. The coffee was cold, there wasn't French toast, fruit or yogurt like we were told. There appeared to be a worker there with ear buds in that I had to tap on the arm to get his attention when I asked about the coffee. He just shook his head and said he didn't know. This place was cheap in price and in quality. Do not waste your money. I would have gladly paid 20 or 30 dollars more for a better room. read more

A recent stay for a long weekend in Duluth. Extremely disappointing accomodations. Very primitive and sparsely furnished. The property is in desperate need of repairs. I think that at one time it was a very quaint and charming Inn, however has been neglected. The issues we had were too numerous to list here. read more

When we arrived in our room, it looked nice but every surface was sticky and dirty. Thank goodness we had baby wipes along. After 13 baby wipes, the sticky was gone. The carpet had pebbles and stones in it. We didn't mind the patches in the carpet, but walk on one of those stones at 2AM and that will indeed wake you up! OUCH! The walls were very thin. We heard the two in the room next to us drunk and loud in their jacuzzi wooping it up. Heard the people above us very well too. Every single step and their tv too. All day long with the tv on. Forget the tile floor and no cloth floor mat once a clean body steps from the shower to a wet tile floor. It's a wonder I didn't break my neck. Won't go there again. read more

I decided to travel to Duluth for my 18th birthday. Glad I chose this hotel as it was very nice. Within walking distance to Staples Center and local restaurants. Loved the room and the bed was comfortable. Close to the bus line which was convenient since renting a car was pricey. Didn't want a huge breakfast every morning so the Starbucks a block down was good for a frap and hot sandwich. Staff at hotel was very nice and made you feel welcome. Overall, very good for the price and would recommend to others and would stay again . read more

The Willard Munger Inn ultimately sufficed for our needs, but it was not at all what we expected based on the Expedia pictures and reviews. they're good on the perks and not as good on the basics. Free zoo passes, free bike rentals, free firewood, free newspaper, decks off some of the rooms and fire pits. The staff was friendly. But, the sheets were so worn they were frayed at all edges and actually torn in some spots. The bedskirt was wrinkled and didn't fit. The quilt was threadbare, the sofa worn and the carpet stained. The queen room was clean, but much smaller than a standard hotel room. The paint was chipping and the trim job shoddy. It was nice to have a deck, but it badly needed painting. There was also a very dirty rag sitting on the window AC. For some reason my husband and I had both gotten the impression from the internet that it was some sort of ski resort, but it's just an old off the highway motel. Bottom line: if we had paid $60-80 for our room, I might have shrugged and said we got what we paid for, but at $120, I considered asking for our money back and I do not think we will stay here again. read more

Ther had been some things that were wrong with the bikes, we had to come back and get a different bike three times I was not mad, I was frustrated but did not take it out on anyone. I told the owner and he said thanks he is having them looked at. I told him some other things that were wrong and he snapped on me. That was ridiculous, he never apologized that should have been the very least, never anything mailed to me. I had been to the Willard munger inn quite a few times. It had been a nice stay for a good price with some extras. Free bikes, free breakfast, free zoo passes and free canoe use. But, we went ther last summer in June of 2015, I have been torn to write this but it is still bothering me and should not have happened, no one is perfect then you apologize or write me something when I leave. You would think he would want to know about the things that were wrong so he could get them fixed. My family came out of the lodge and this head of the place was yelling at me. They were shocked and asked me what happened, they both did not appreciate him talking to me like that. I don't know if I will be back. He ruined it for me. read more
