After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. Parts Unknown The Comic Book Store in Greensboro, North Carolina is a perfect example. I immediately found a side street parking space and parked my pearl white Lexus there and walked over to the store. It was a pleasant walk and the building where the store was located had an interesting graffiti on the outside, side wall. Inside I was greeted by a friendly and very knowledgeable employee who has also been a good friend of the owner for years. He told me how the owner John Hitchcock had owned and operated this business for over 36 years with around 25 years in this location and how the business originally opened up in Cotton Mill Square in 1989. How Hitchcock had always had a passion for comic books and started collecting them when he was 10. He started selling comic books in a store downtown 37 years ago and this led to his opening his own store. Hitchcock's favorite comic book creator was Alex Toth, an artist who had been well known for his expressive line and masterful storytelling. Hitchcock and him had been friends and collaborated on a book called Dear John: The Alex Toth Doodle Book. He showed me a copy of the book that was being sold there. The store had an inviting atmosphere and as I walked through the store it was like entering another world. The uniqueness of this comic book shop was that it exclusively specializes in comic books and books about comic books. It had in its inventory some rare and expensive ones like The Invincible Iron Man selling for $2,000, a Green Lantern one selling for $1,500, and a Special 25th Anniversary Issue of the Amazing Spiderman selling for $1,200, among other well known and rare ones in excellent condition. College students enjoy visiting the store because it's like a live history museum of comic books and also carries many of the current looked-after ones. And the store brings back happy memories to old timers and makes valuable merchandise accessible to comic book collectors of all ages. I highly recommend it if ever your in the area. To me it was an extraordinary and exhilarating experience.

The selection of was out of this world with the variation of items. I was in the book selection for at least an hour. I will admit that I was taken a back by some of the prices since the items are gently used. Be sure to plan spending some time at this place during your visit-it's worth it.

The store is massive and carries used books of every genre, as well as gently-loved puzzles, Funko characters, Squishmallows, toys, vinyl, movies, board games, CDs, video games, etc. It's a really fun place to browse and it has something for just about everyone. The store is organized pretty well considering how much inventory they have. My only complaint as a buyer is that most items are overpriced. For example, a used paperback copy of TJ Klune's House in Cerulean Sea is $17 and a lovely used puzzle I was looking at buying was $15. I would rather support McKay's than big-box stores or Amazon, but in this economy it is also hard to justify spending $5 - $10 more for a used version than I would a new one elsewhere. That being said, every now and then, I find a really good deal at McKay's. I purchased a paperback copy of Less by Andrew Sean Greer for 25 cents, which made my day. Selling books here can be slightly disheartening. I recently took in a stack of 18 books, including a popular hardcover which was being sold in the store for $17 at the time, and I only received $13 in store credit for the entire stack. I am not sure how this compares with other stores that buy used books, but in the future I will probably only sell items that I would have donated anyway so that any store credit, no matter how little, feels like a little bonus.

Today, I was in the mood for a new adventure. Fun fact, I made my first comic purchase here about 6 years ago. Since my last visit, the layout appears to be easier to navigate. The space is made up of about three different rooms to explore, so I didn't feel cramped or as if I was invading anyone's bubble. The staff answered my many questions and even attempted to assist me in recalling a title I was having trouble finding. Which I later identified. The parking was a bit hectic on a Friday afternoon. I was in and out within a matter of minutes. I initially dropped in for the New Bloodline comic but also decided on the Scarlet Witch while browsing. My purchases came out to $9.59. I'll be returning soon for the Saga volumes!

The impressive back issue selection is refreshed weekly and super well-organized. If you're ready to create a pull list (highly advised!), Acme is great with communication about adding new titles. Plus -- the owner and staff actually READ the new titles and are ready to give a FRIENDLY and informed recommendation. (If you've been to the "other" type of stores, you know that's not as common as it should be.) Regular updates on social media keep you informed of new titles worth checking out. The best factor overall is the FUN and NO PRESSURE atmosphere created by the staff and customers who have made this a true treasure of the local community. Really happy to discover this store.

They carry a good selection of board games, TCGs, and other hobby items, and it's nice having a place nearby where you can actually browse in person instead of ordering everything online. Staff is friendly enough here, but the business is very disorganized. They don't have any good system of maintaining orders for their customers when they order items from their website. Their card inventory is far less than stellar. Anything I search for is out of stock. They have 3 staff members as far as I have seen, and they appear to have zero communication between them on their business operation. Any time I go in there, the staff has to scramble to get stuff done that they had more than ample time to prepare for (over a week at least). They never answer the phone and hardly ever respond to emails. They open only 3 days a week and even during business hours, they cannot be contacted. I've tried multiple times on email and phone to contact them and get no answer and no email response. The only way to speak to them is to go there in person to force them to talk to you. Obviously time and gas costs factor in on this, making it a total pain. Even when you do go there, it's a crapshoot on whether or not that employee has any idea of what the others did to handle the business I try to bring them. Terribly run business in all. I can't give them less than 1 star, but 1 star is entirely too generous. Sadly it's the only MTG LGS in town. If you want to go to game events they host, they are ok for that. Not by any means stellar, but they take your money and let you play. I wouldn't recommend buying anything at the shop; you could order stuff from other game sites online and have it twice as fast as they can give it to you even though they already have the items in their store. Save yourself the trouble and buy online. Trying to buy stuff or sell stuff at this place is worse than pulling your own wisdom teeth out.
