Las Aves Taco Market - Shrimp and chorizo tacos

I could sum up my experience in one word: Salty…read more Las Aves came highly recommended by some locals, so I placed a takeout order through their website last night for Americano ground beef tacos, no tomatoes, and added sides of chips, queso, crema, and 4 oz. rice. My order total was roughly $20 after taxes, tip, and a random $1 online ordering fee. Since I added so many sides, I decided to check on my order when I picked it up. The sides were correct, except I erroneously ordered queso fresco instead of queso blanco (womp), but the tacos were covered in tomatoes. They corrected it and made me fresh tacos in just a few minutes, which I appreciated. My first bite into the tacos tasted like pure salt. Unfortunately, they didn't get any better. They were also pretty greasy, and my stomach wasn't a huge fan by any means. I ordered them with hard shell tacos, which was an upcharge, and they tasted way overcooked. All told, I just didn't enjoy the dish. The chips were extra salty too. I heard the rice was good though. I'm probably being generous with a 3-star rating, but I'm hoping it was just a bad night for them. It does seem like this spot is hit or miss based on other reviews here. I wouldn't be opposed to trying them once more on a future trip to Jersey, maybe next time I'll do a sit-down dinner, as their dining space looked quite nice and they even had outdoor seating too.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed because the first time I came here I really enjoyed it,…read morebut the second time was not so great. I don't know if they're frying things too long or their oil is just old but everything; chips, tacos, etc. came out oily and tasted off. I could only eat one of the birria tacos. Definitely feel like I'm going to get indigestion tonight . It's also clear that the guacamole is store bought. It has the lemony/lime preservative taste. It's such a shame because it's not hard to make homemade guacamole and I feel like if the ingredients here were just a bit fresher, it would go further. It was a really surprising time because the first time we came here, the food tasted fresh and great. I don't know if they just have someone else cooking tonight, but we couldn't finish our meals. $65.00 for that. Such a shame

However, the portions were very limited in comparison to the price. I think they are getting a little greedy with pricing and portions. One person in my party ordered the mixed fajitas and it's was more than $20 for about a 6oz a chopped meats with vegetables, a hand full of rice and half a cup of refried beans. The person in my party that received the food looked at it, look up at me and said "really". Another person said "isn't that more than $20?". The person that ordered it cringed and apologized for ordering since we were paying. Another person ordered a burrito and it came all by itself on a plate. The put nothing to even make it look good. Another order was tacos and the meat was not even hot. Soft drinks came to $8 for the large and $6 for the small. Place hadn't been bad before reason why we decided to go this time, but I felt like I got robbed. Tab came to $100, when in other places that serve high quality food would charge $80 or less for the same things we ordered. The place looks nice though and the service was good. I just think those prices need to be checked or the portions need to be larger. I have been to the Mariachi Loco in Hammonton and with this kind of tab I would have fed an extra person or two.

Extremely disappointing and poorly managed Use to come here about 6/8 times a year with a…read morefriend/customer prior to it closing down few years ago. Came here for biz lunches. Since retired but came here today to see my friend/old customer. Got here at 12pm. Seated quickly in the back (place was very dark). Waitress came by for our soft drinks. I order an ice tea. She came back as the tea had to be brewed - now its noon time and tea for ice tea isnt brewed which took 10/15 mins (first strike). Placed our order - i ordered 5 wings and the roasted veggie grinder. Lunch partner ordered a French dip. Wings came out timely and were good. It took the French dip and roasted veggie grinder 30 mins to come out and the order was wrong - it wasnt a French dip, my sandwich was not toasted, nor did it have the aioli on it either (2nd strike); both went back - server apologized and said remake would come out quickly. There was a table of 3 ladies other side of us and their order came out three times to complete - it came out piecemeal but i digress. Server was clearly embarrassed since she stayed away. I saw her and asked when out food was coming - 1255pm the remake came out. The French dip was supposed to be on a seeded roll which it was not, and my roasted veggie sandwich was a mushy mess of what they called roasted veggies still on a soft ciabatta roll that was not toasted as a grinder should be and the veggies were over salted. (3rd strike) The server offered to have the manager come by but I declined as he/she would not have been happy by the time I was done with him or her. After being closed for a few years was excited to come back. Needless to say wont be going back. It should not take 30 mins for sandwiches to come out, then be a wrong order or not as advertised, then have to wait another 20 minutes for the remake and still be wrong. my sandwich was comped which was kind of the server.

The setting was comfortable, the decor was cheerful, and the server was knowledgeable and attentive. Based on all the delicious flavors in the food, I have to believe that everything is made from scratch. We shared an order of tostadas de tinga, which was flavorful and texturally interesting. Our entrees were pollo al carbon and michmole (salted branzino with a bright, light mole). The fish was cooked perfectly. Portions were a good size. Prices were very fair. Our bottle of crisp white wine (BYO) paired great with the food. Tlali is a gem that's worth trying!
