My appointments with Dr Mullans are pretty simple. I go in, complain about my blemishes, I get a prescription for a pretty good face wash and topical serum. So far, I'm a fan of anything she's prescribed. She's smart, peppy, informative. Only downside is the wait time. Expect a good hour from walking in to walking out. Pretty standard for most doctors. But still not the best use of anyone's time -- waiting in the wait room or in one of the patient rooms. Book your appointment at least two weeks in advance. The office does not send text or email appointment reminders. It's all done via phone/voicemail. Free parking in the garage and street parking. Her office also does med spa procedures (Botox, chemical peels, etc). read more

Dr. Elizabeth Mullins is everything you want in a doctor. She is professional, provides excellent care and has the most positive attitude. She and her associate, Yvette, are a delight, which is an atypical healthcare experience these days. Dr. Mullins and Yvette go out of their way to make patients feel comfortable and at ease. They exhibit the best bedside manner I have ever encountered, and if my review was based solely upon Dr. Mullins alone, her practice would receive all five stars, and I would still be her patient. Unfortunately, as other reviewers point out, Dr. Mullins's front desk person, Allison, is the polar opposite of the doctor and Yvette. She seems unhappy and acts abrupt and rude. I don't know what happened the past few years but restaurants, dry cleaners, coffee shops, hotels, retail establishments and hospitals are now full of unhappy people who cannot be bothered to return smiles or greet customers with a "good morning" or even say "hello." How hard is that? It's a constant stream of negativity, and I won't reward that behavior. It is unacceptable. So today, I walked out of Dr. Mullins's office prior to my appointment because I refuse to allow toxic behavior to negatively impact my day. Yvette called me shortly afterward and was so sweet as I explained the situation. I told her life is too short to expose yourself to this kind of negativity. Business owners: I'll take my business elsewhere if you choose to make the face of your business unhappy individuals with unpleasant demeanors, and who cannot even bring themselves to greet your customers/patients beyond a scowl and "name?" Just want to share the amazing experience I had with Dr. Mullans and her staff this week. I've been visiting her for about 2 years and I've never written a deserving review. She's always so informative and responsive. I've had a few visits for cosmetic purposes as well as just general skin issues and checkups. I always find it easy to make an appointment and the process for payment is always easy and not confusing - something you rarely find in most MD offices nowadays. I'm torn as I write this review...if I were to rate the wait time, I'd give her 0 stars. If I were to rate Dr. Mullans as a dermatologist, I'd give her 5 stars. But since it seems like the wait time is a persistent problem (Jeena & Melissa), I'll have to average it to 2.5 and round up to 3 stars. I waited 90 minutes before I was able to see her!!! One hour to see the nurse and another 30 minutes before I saw Dr. Mullans herself. I was so infuriated that I was ready to storm out, and just then, Dr. Mullans finally walked in. As soon as she opened her mouth, I couldn't even be angry with her. She was probably the sweetest, bubbly, and genuinely positive doctor I've ever met. She apologized profusely for the wait and said she wouldn't charge me at all. I explained my persistent mosquito bite problem to her and she came back with 3 samples of solution which could last me for 6 months. While I was at it, I showed her a scar I had, and she came back with another sample. She gets samples all the time and even encouraged me to call in periodically to check what they have and swing by to pick them up for free. If only she could fix the wait time issue...she'd be 5 stars, hands down. read more

I started going to Dr Mullans about 5 yrs ago. She was wonderful, spent so much time w/ me, listened, did great work, worked w/ my budget. Now that I am back in Houston, of course I will only go to her. Her picture on this site is accurate- she is a upbeat, positive, gentle and funny lady that gives the best pep talks and encouragement/reassurance while you are going through a procedure. Dr. Mullans is wonderful and I just don't know if I can go back because of her receptionist office manager, front person who denied me of my appointment today because I forgot to bring a thermometer to take my own temperature before going into the office. Did the front person try to solve this problem? No. Did she appear sympathetic or apologetic that I would have to leave after waiting two to three weeks for this appointment? No. Am I bummed? Yes. I'm giving this review because the front person is a part of the experience and I've had to deal with her each time I have an appointment. I recently saw Dr. Mullans for the first time for a routine skin check. When I say she is the nicest doctor I have ever met, I really mean it. She was so sweet, informative, and smart. I'm so glad I found her in such a big city with so many doctors to choose from. I talked to her about different facial treatments and laser therapies and she didn't try to sell me on a single thing. I used to see Dr. Mullans when her office was near the Galleria. She was a lovely doctor. I recently moved back to Houston and needed to see a derm, so I was happy to return to Dr. Mullans. Enter: the dreaded Allison. I was giving Allison my insurance information to make the appointment, when she asked for my marital status. My policy is always to answer "Irrelevant to my care," when a doctor's office asks for this information, because it truly is not relevant. However, Allison refused to let me make an appointment without giving her a marital status. She first said that she had to report it to the EMR (electronic medical records) then she changed her story and claimed that "the government" says she has to report it and that if she does not, the doctor "will be penalized." This is not true. There is no law or regulation saying that a doctor has to provide a patient's marital status to the government. I suspect that Allison gets a bonus from reporting these stats to the EMR company, who can then sell those statistics at a profit. It's a shame that Allison is alienating patients, because Dr. Mullans is a good doctor with great bedside manner. read more

Yes, I'm a huge fan of Dr. Mullans and Yvette but I have to agree with the person who wasnt too thrilled with Allison. I've gotten some unfriendly vibes off her and I'd call her workstyle borderline lazy. No worries though, it's the brilliant Dr. Mullans I'm there to see. She's a very solutions-oriented doctor- we've been trying a number of things to combat a lifelong skin condition I've had and I am glad she's on my team. Great personality, smart, excellent insights into skin health and she's very vocal about preventative screenings for skin cancer. So after coming to my appointments in the past months, I've realized that each time I've waited for over an hour, even up to 2 hours! What's worse is that I've had her assistant call me twice to reschedule my appointment because she either couldnt come into the office in the morning bc she was sick or she had to leave the office early because she wasnt feeling good. I didnt really think nothing of it but when I finally rescheduled, I wanted to get an early morning appointment because I figured that I wouldnt wait nearly as long as the afternoon ones. Well the secretary told me when I rescheduled that I was the first patient to be seen at 9AM. Tell me why I had the appt this morning thinking I'd be out in a jiffy and I waited over an HOUR!!! This is getting ridiculous. As much as I think dr. mullans is super nice, the wait time is just a time waster for me. The more I see her, the more I keep getting all sorts of different topicals, prescriptions, solutions etc...think I may give up and see another derm for a 2nd opinion. read more

After my initial appointment, I went to the pharmacy to get my prescription filled and found out my insurance wouldn't pay for it. Dr. Mullans and her assistants were very willing to provide me with samples and even called my insurance for me to try to sort it out. What a relief to have your doctor on your side. We recently moved to Houston and last month suffered from a poison-something skin reaction so severe that my planned trip to Alaska was at risk. There is another issue here about any dr that should be addressed. Dr. Mullans does not except Medicare patients. I understand that. I pay my internist an additional fee per year (MDVIP it is called) and I do so willingly because a practice of medicare patients will not cover the bills! HOWEVER, here is the indication of something seriously wrong with Dr Mullans: We were among her first patients- doctors in my family took our experience and recommended a lot of patients to her. That was when she first started on her own. Now we are Medicare. I called for yearly appt and was told flatly," no medicare patients." Never a form letter, much less a phone call to tell some of her very first patients that we were no longer welcome.(yes I would have come as a self paid patient had she had told us about this decision when she made it). And yes, I would have waited the requisite two hours. But absolutely no contact about the change in insurance, that just speaks to me of a doctor that I cannot really love- as we thought we did. And here's the final blow. At my request, her receptionist called me back with a reccomendation. It was a dermatologist she herself had disliked as had I!!!! read more

So I've read over the other reviews and I don't want to give her a bad review but I have 2 stars because "Meh, I've experienced better". I've been going to the dermatologist for cystic acne for over 10 years. I used to go to someone in Bellaire and then moved to Dallas. Upon my return, I found Dr. Mullans. I didn't want to be put on Accutane again, so we tried the topical route. She is very generous with samples, eager to please and super bubbly. She does ramble quite a bit for a dermatologist but then again she's the first female derm I've been too. Im not sure my skin improved much but then again I still don't have great skin. Monthly facials have actually helped a lot more. I think what most reviews have said is true. I never really waited that long, maybe 30minutes. She will work around your schedule. I think I was rescheduled 1X b/c she was sick. So there is probably something going on there. I still recommended my husband to go. read more

I absolutely LOVE Dr. Mullans. I've been to dermatologists since I was about 9 and this is the first one I've loved. She's EXCELLENT at diagnosing and fixing any problems. I went to THREE different derms in Houston area for an irritation on my chin and she took one look and said, I have something for that. Done. Seems like a lot of derms just want to laser everything and give you botox/other procedures that cost a fortune, always pushing their expensive products even if they're not the best thing for you. She will tell you honestly if a product that costs $1 is the best one for you. And she always has samples ha. Also, she is very bubbly, but in a good way, a positive, I know what we can do about that way. She will listen to your concerns and address them. She's not pretentious but knows what she's doing. I've recommended 2 friends to her and they are both hooked. I was sent on recommendation by a family member who went from meh skin to amazing skin. I get compliments on my skin often. And Dr. Mullans has PERFECT skin, without makeup or injections. Just straight up great skin. I don't know about you but I want my derm to have great skin. Try the Skinceuticals face sunscreen lotion stuff, it's awesome, not greasy and great for ultra-sensitive skin. I have had to wait about 45 min one time but they were very apologetic and offered to reschedule. It's worth it because she's so good. read more

I have been a patient with Dr. Mullans for nearly a decade and have had pleasant experiences with both her and her nurse, Yvette. But Allison is wretched! Per usual practices I received a reminder call for an follow-up appointment. I returned the call to inform her that I couldn't make the appointment and she rescheduled. I was in route to a meeting when the call was made therefore unable to put in on my calendar, but figured I'd receive a call a day or two prior to remind me of the appointment. I never received a call and figured it was never scheduled. Months later I received a call from collections stating I had a past due No Show Fee for Uptown Dermatology. This was the first I've heard of the fee as I never received an email or call regarding the matter, yet I receive regular email newsletters from this practice so my info is clearly on file. I email Dr. Mullans for Allison to then reply and tell me that she was on vacation and therefore the reminder call wasn't placed and that it is my job to remember my appointments. You'd think after nearly ten years of patronage, various referrals, never missing an appointment, and being understanding when Dr. Mullan's had an emergency and I've shown up to be told I need to reschedule and two occasions that the same courtesy would be given for a first time offense, especially given the fact that they have record that the "courtesy" call wasn't placed. And for ALL of these decisions to be made affecting Dr. Mullans practice by Allison and her Accountant is absurd. Especially when they don't have the acumen to assess situations before applying fees and sending items to collections. If I had done this before, I'd pay the fee. If I had received the call/voicemail and didn't show, I'd pay the fee. But to be penalized, and sent to collections no less, for being unable to put in my calendar for the first time in nearly 10 years is ASININE! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Mullans for 3 years now, and after my last visit, I felt like I owed a review. While I know some of us have experienced long waiting room periods (I have as well), the wait is really worth it. I believe it's better to wait a bit, than have a doctor who rushes you through the appointment and you don't really get the time you need to say, "what about this", and "what do you think about this", and get all of your concerns thoroughly considered. Dr. Mullans listens, and doesn't rush the appointment. She wants to make sure you are fully involved in whatever steps she prescribes, and that you fully understand what to expect, and what to do if you don't feel comfortable. Today, at my appointment, I had some concerns and asked a 100 extra questions about a possible elective procedure. She made me feel comfortable and had a real conversation with me, didn't rush me or talk "at" me.
