Occasionally I buy Heat or the odd celebrity-rag-trying-to-be-a-fashion-mag. Have you noticed that's happening more and more with the weekly gossip? Anyway, after many many MANY of these publications whinging about how many Mulberry handbags they wanted, I thought I'd nip into the shop in Manchester and see what all the fuss was about.
Am I missing something? Girly girls or fashion-forward males please explain, because all I saw were a bunch of brightly coloured, plasticky looking totes that were no more special than accessories I've bought at H&M or Zara. And I thought I'd be sure to like Mulberry because Fearne Cotton has like a hundred of them. I generally like the things she wears.
That said, I'm sure it feels very special to own a handbag that cost over £500. But I'd look at that bag and think, oh, a holiday would have been much nicer. Seventeen outfits. A bunch of stuff from Urban Outfitters. Two months' rent. Presumably this is because my father's drilled into me that frivolity is foolish, but I really don't see the attraction. Is it an investment?
You might be a Mulberry girl, but if you're as oblivious as me, save your pennies and hop off to a vintage shop or a high street retailer. I guarantee it's not quality that ensures these bags cost so much. read more
