I saw their advertisement and that an experienced teacher is teaching Carnatic music. Since he is experienced, I thought he would be very good teacher, which turned out to be wrong. Also, they are teaching Hindi. I enrolled my kid for Carnatic Music after listening to the first class and also for Hindi classes.
Carnatic: Everything seemed fine in the first class. But later, we found that he talks more about himself than teach carnatic during the class. The class schedule was supposed to be one hour, but after few classes, he taught less than half hour. And considering that he talks about himself for half the time, that turns out to be a 15 min class per week. I discussed the progress of my kid with a friend who was learning at a different location and found that this teacher is going very fast. Teaching carnatic music takes time and lot of practice. Normally, it takes at least few months to start learning "janta swaras", but this teacher started teaching them in the very third class. After a couple of more classes, he started teaching bhajans and songs!! (normally that would take at least an year). Also, my friend asked me "what is the shruti of your kid", I had no answer and my kid did not know either. The first thing that comes in carnatic music is shruti and laya, which this teacher did not even mention. If you or your kid has any interest for carnatic music, never go to this place. Search for other carnatic teachers around, look around and try other options.
Hindi: We realized later that they themselves do not know good Hindi and they misinterpret hindi quite a lot of times when teaching.
Bharatanatyam: We saw one class of bharatanatyam and decided not to send our kid.
Fees: When we called, they mentioned an amount, but after going there, and right when the first class is going on, they asked me to pay upfront for the whole three months. I said, we will see how the first class goes and the pay. They did not agree and I had to pay all the amount up front! Also, they added $40 registration free, which they did not mentioned when I spoke with them on the phone. They also forced us to buy music books. Of course, books are important and necessary, but the way they forced us to pay the fees upfront and buy the books made me feel these people are just money minded. Which turned out to be correct after just a few classes.
I would sincerely suggest look for lot of alternatives before going here. If your kid is really interested in something, then NEVER send them here. read more
