When Muddy Paws first opened it was better. An independent, small business that locals are eager to support. Sadly, this place has gone downhill. The owner/manager lady comes off a little rude and burnt out. She almost seems annoyed when you walk in. In her defense, owning a business can be difficult and exhausting and burn-out is real! We all know life is hard and it's easy to get feeling stressed out and overwhelmed. Doing a job day in and day out, it's hard to maintain the same level of professionalism and service people expect. All of us would do well to step back, reassess and try to see things thru the customers eyes. A couple things: 1. The shop is dirty. It needs a good cleaning. A dirty pet groomers shop doesn't inspire confidence in a pet owner. Our pets are our children, after all! I should add that the inside smells like cigarettes. 2. Every time I've taken our dog in for a nail trim they are cut too short. The groomer routinely has to apply a medicine balm to stop bleeding or prevent infection to one or two nails. This last (and final) time I brought my dog in she cut her nails so short that one bled out for a half an hour (and got blood all over my car seats and new floors at home). I understand occasionally going too short but it's practically EVERY time. When my wife called to complain the woman was defensive and unapologetic. It's better to admit your mistakes and apologize. Accountability goes a long way with people rather than foolish pride. read more

I really did like this place at first seeing as my long haired cat needed grooming every few months and would not let me near him with a brush or anything. Eventually he gained knots and became matted so we would take him to muddy paws for a bath,cut,ear cleaning, etc. and all for only 70-80! I took him 2-3 times prior and never had an issue, yes the haircuts weren't the best but I wasn't really looking for looks, more so for comfort for my cat as I know matting can be uncomfortable. Every visit usually lasted an hour. This time, I took my cat Smokey and the visit lasted 2 hours. He had an appointment at 3, I came and picked him up at 5:15. When I went to pick him up he was in his carrier so I didn't see him very well, I asked when paying if everything went smoothly and if he was good and the owner stated that my cat was "one of the good ones" and that he was fine and everything went good. I paid an $11 tip. When I came home with my cat, he ran and went into hiding, did not let anybody near him not even his siblings. Finally after a few hours he let me pick him up and when I did he looked as if he was in pain, I laid him down on my lap and saw that his chest was red and looked burned and irritated. When I went to check, I saw what looks like razor burn, he will not let me touch his back end when petting him which has never been an issue, he tenses up and hisses at me whenever I even go near that area. He even bit me!! This cat has never bitten anybody before unless he was playing!! My boy was in pain, when he laid down fully I was able to see that his nipples were red and irritated as well and his leg I noticed today has the same red burn and irritation as his chest and nipples. He won't stop licking himself due to the irritation, there are tiny cuts on him as well. I went out a bought a soothing healing ointment for his skin and I hope to god it doesn't get any worse. My cat has never acted like this before, and I know accidents happen and cats aren't the easiest to deal with, but when I asked at pick up if everything went well, I expect full honesty. Now I feel like I was just lied too and that my cat was not cared for. I know he was matted, but I took him in with worse Matt's when I first adopted him because the shelter didn't take care of his fur, and his skin never came out red, irritated, and burned. I have called and left a voicemail and have not received a call back. There should be no reason my cat has to experience this when all he came for was a regular groom and shave down for a lions cut. Usually my cat comes home after a shave down and he runs down and is playful and he seems more energetic with shorter hair, but this time he looked traumatized, uncomfortable, angry, and scared. I tried to ignore the bad reviews at first when I first came to muddy paws, and seeing how good his past visits were, I was definitely not expecting an outcome such as this. I should have received an honest response when asked if everything went well and if my cat was okay and if anything had to be done that I should know of. If you want to take your pet here, just check their bodies and their reactions before leaving, because my boy was very unlucky with receiving a bad cut and a painful one at that. Update: The owner left me a voicemail and it was basically just an excuse. She was explaining how they gave him a hypoallergenic shampoo which should help with any itching and then added that with tight matted fur that there is always a risk of razor burn. Which I can understand some little mistakes with the burn, mistakes happen, but Smokey's burns are no where near little. Hes on a topical cream right now in hopes it'll get better but he is not himself, still very scared with minimal movement as it bothers and hurts him. He will still not let me touch him unless it's on his head. Also, I have taken my cat to this place when I first got him and he had way worse matting, and this never happened the first or second time. NEVER AGAIN!! Also the voicemail didn't even have an apology. Ridiculous. Think twice before going here. read more

Will not be returning here. Just paid $150 for my dog to be groomed. Normally I pay $80... she called to ask if I wanted a couple things done that would cost extra and I said no. Then when I arrived to pick him up I got charged a no show fee of $50 which is high, I own a business as well and mine isn't even that high - it was because I got the days mixed up last time and I called to apologize, and reschedule but still got no mention of the no show charge on the phone or ever. I asked where it says there is a no show charge and she said it's on the appt cards which I have also never received one of those after going 3/4 times. Then she informed me the lady that cuts my dog came in on her day off on the day of the no show.. you gave me that day so why would you schedule my dog on some ones on their day off? Then proceeded to tell me they just started this "no show charge". Doesn't make any sense, I will not be bringing my dog back here. Good ole Bradenton. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would!!! I have a 1 1/2 yr old beagle mixed pup, I adopted from a rescue organization. Her nails have ALWAYS been long and very, very thick. When she gets excited, she tries jumping and I tend to get my forearms and legs scratched up. Well 1 trip to this wonderful dog wash and 15 mins later, my pup has the shortest nails!!! I thought I went when the owner ( I guess) was having a bad day. It happens- but NO. 2nd time she was even worse. I've never ever experienced such a rude person at a business THEY own. If she's not outside smoking, she's at the desk and can't even bother to look up when a customer walks in. If somebody hates people as much as she does, she shouldn't be in this business. It concerns me how she treats the pets if she can't even be kind to the owners...who PAY and TRUST her. It wasn't just me who she's like this to. Just ask people in the parking lot. read more

Today at 10:56 AM I had a wonderful experience at Muddy Paws Dog Wash! The staff was wonderful and courteous. The shop was clean and tidy. I brought my dog into Muddy Paws for a DIY dog wash and I used the "Evolution" Dog Wash Machine. It was so easy and quick! If you are looking for a great and easy DIY dog wash then give Muddy Paws a try! They also have regular wash tubs for DIY, but I LOVED the "Evolution". I have a bigger dog and it was SO easy to give her a complete wash and dry. read more

Went there to do the diy bath for my pooch. Had the owner do her ears, as I can't be that rough with her, even tho' I discipline her. Very nice people, helped a lot with getting the wash done. If it wasn't so far away, I would be a regular. Would trust her with a trim, which is tricky with my pooch's feathers. Highly recommended. read more

This is a great place. The people are friendly and they really care about your best friend. My poodle was finished in less than an hour and a half, and he looked great. The first trip to muddy paws was fine. The next time it turned into a disaster. When I picked up my dog she could hardly walk 2 feet without having to sit. When I got home called and asked what they had done to make her stop every few steps. The short version they gave her a sanitary cut but it was too close. I told them that if I had to take her to the vet, they would get the bill. I did take her to the vet. It was $85 and some cream because it was too close. I took the bill back they wouldn't talk to me. The fact that the place is oclose to where I live made it convenient. But I will never go there again! read more

Would never go here again. Brought my dog for the first time and it was the worst grooming job she's ever had. They didn't even give her a bath and she covered my car in hair when I picked her up. I have a Shih Tzu so she minimally sheds. She was acting weird for days after picking her up and I've had to spend hours trying to comb the knots they put in her ears. Extremely upset and didn't even receive a reply when I tried to contact them. DO NOT take your dog here. read more

This was the best place to bring my special needs kitty! Muddy Paws staff took the best care of my Rudy. He has trouble grooming himself due to a cleft palate and an unsuccessful surgery. I've taken my dog here about 4 times, so I did want to give this new business a chance. The 1st time was great, but every time after that, there's been a different single groomer who has an unwelcoming attitude. She made me feel like I was bothering her and that my dog was too much work for her. Granted, I do have a dog who has a double coat and therefore, lots of hair! But if this is your business, you should expect that, right? This last time was the kicker. She actually asked me if I wanted to leave the tip on the credit card machine or in cash. Bold, right? Especially with that attitude. I did leave her a tip because I understand that my dog is a lot of work, but tips are for GOOD service which she apparently doesn't understand. On top of that, she didn't do a good job. I could tell she just wanted us out of there as quickly as possible. So, this place is affordable if you do the grooming yourself and is nice inside. But if you want your pet groomed for you, I would pass unless you have a short-haired docile animal. There are plenty of other groomers out there who won't make you feel unwelcome. read more

Muddy Paws opened as a place to bring your dog using their tubs, not as groomers. I don't know whether dog groomers are licensed, but they should be. After my bichon/shitzu was attacked by a pit bull and hospitalized, her usual busy groomer didn't have time for weeks, which is the problem now that snow birds are down and every good groomer is booked for weeks. I took her to Muddy Paws a second time and they raised the price $10 because she was matted. Ok. I paid. It wasn't a great cut, but I took her back for an appointment at 2:30 today for the going rate of $65. There was only one little dog on a table. An hour and a half later, the "groomer" called. I thought to pick ber up. But no, she wanted me to come look at where she had matting because she was raising the price to $75. I asked where my dog had been all that time as I always specify "no cages." She said "in the dryer! That long? No, she said she took other dogs that came in. I told her to finish the job, I would pay the $75, but I believe she needed new tools because it was her cutting that was so choppy it resulted in matting. I brush or comb my dog every day and knew only her neck got matted from the collar. She and the owner refused to finish the job, told me to come for my dog and then told me to get the f....k out when I let them know they had no right to keep my dog in the dryer while taking others with no appointment. Yes, Muddy Paws describes this low class operation. I wonder whether they clean their tubs with so little concern for an owner's expecting to be treated professionally. read more

I take my 50 lb. dog here for them to give her a bath about once a month. I believe everything is great because my dog can be timid, but she has no problem walking in there and letting me leave. It's a very nice shop, run by very nice people. read more

Did Not have a good experience. 17 yr old dog /deaf had been groomed twice a year for 16 years never a problem. This is the only place that said she was biting. Alerted stylist of skin tags and yet each skin tag was nicked. One toe nail was cut too far (which they didn't tell us ) until we got home and it then restarted to bleed. I'm assuming they put stuff on it to stop the bleeding but then began again all over the place. Upon inspection you can clearly see the nail was cut way into her poor toe. I am assuming once they did this to her she was very irritated and maybe that's what prompted the biting or the six skin tags getting nicked. Maybe this isn't the place for elderly dogs as they Cleary didn't do right by her. She has arthritis in her back legs abd they give out so I can only image the pain she must have been in if they weren't gentle with her. I'm so sorry my pup went through this and will never ever use this place again and I suggest unless you have a young to middle age dog with no ailments then maybe this isn't the place for your loving pet. read more
