She had recently bought a new house in the Hucknall area and is an avid Thai fan, so Sunday, post housewarming night, we decided it was what we all needed for some recovery grub. The place itself is very hidden, nestled amongst houses down a residential street you follow a curvey road round to it's car park and the main entrance. The place itself looks like nothing special on the outside and the decor inside is pleasant, clean and warming but nothing too fancy. The food however, is the star of the show, and so it should be. On sundays they have their "Sunday Club", which is an all-you-can-eat for just £14.95. Now, before you conjure up horrible images of people fingering your food or dishes sitting out for hours, it's not like that. This literally is all you can eat from their select menu which they prepare freshly for you in the kitchen. There were 5 of us, so we went for the sharing platter to start which had spring rolls, prawn toast, thai pancakes etc. We then order a fair few dishes for the mains, 2 green curries, one yellow, a pad thai, 3 rices and some sticky chicken. This all came out in about 30 mins after the starter. It tasted lovely. So much so that we had to order more, so more yellow curry, rice, pad thai and prawn stir fry made it's way to the table. Again, all freshly made and tasting delicious. We were well and truly stuffed! I would definitely recommend this place, especially on a Sunday. It wasn't busy at all, and the relaxed atmosphere was perfect for our delicate souls. Our total each came to £20, which included a couple of soft drinks each.

It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, not at all close to the city centre but it was within walking distance of where his friends lived which was quite handy. It seems an odd location and didn't have a store front that faced the road but when we walked in the staff were lovely and the decor was really nice! We decided to go for a set meal - the 'set meal deluxe' which gave us all the option to pick and share between us. The soup we got for the appetiser was absolutely delicious! It was spicy and tangy and some surprise prawns hiding in the middle of bowl! The platter came out after and everything on it was lovely. The mains were pretty good too, especially the duck, it was on hot griddle and some of the duck bits went all crispy and the sauce on top was so yummy! I snoozed on the pad thai though so didn't get to try some (boooo!) but seeing as it went so quickly it must have been nice! I was pretty impressed with this place, definitely some of the best thai food I've had. I love that it was off the beaten track too :)

There always seems to be a bit of line waiting both lunchtimes and in the evenings which speaks to their products. Mrs G and I typically visit once most weeks - two pieces of fish and one regular chips - even then between the two of us we only manage to eat half the chips!! Why only 4 stars Brian? So ringing to rearrange always makes me a little nervous (I hate being a pain in the bum). But the conversation I had with the Harts representative was so reassuring that I immediately felt comfortable with my new booking. We were also staying at the hotel that weekend (which I will also review) and had a pre-dinner drink in the bar (which again was fantastic) and was a perfect start to the evening. Arriving at the restaurant (if I'm completely honest) I was a little disappointed with the décor. It reminds me very much of a fine dining establishment in America... which I personally think is quite an old fashioned take on being "modern". But none of that matters when you receive the service and the standard of food that we received that evening. I started with the tuna cerviche. It was garnished well with coriander making the dish light and refreshing. The tuna was absolutely delicious and sometimes I avoid it because it can have a jelly-like texture which I don't enjoy at all. But this was perfect. I then opted for a sirloin main course, and my, oh my, it was one of the tastiest pieces of meat I've ever eaten (and I do love a steak). It was cooked to perfection and exactly as I'd asked for it. Juicy, tender meat served with thrice cooked chips, roasted veggies and a sauce that was sweet and rich. The sauce was actually so yummy that I asked for more so I could dip my chips in it (you can take the girl out of Stoke, but you can't take Stoke out of the girl). We then had a melt in the middle chocolate fondant, with pistachio ice cream. Now this was where the service could have gone terribly, but it didn't. We ordered two desserts and the waiter had misheard us. When one dessert arrived with two spoons, the waiter immediately came to us and apologised profusely. Now I was already stuffed at this point and was ready to cancel the dessert anyway, but the manager then arrived to explain that the dessert was on it's way and would not be added to the bill along with two complimentary glasses of champagne. Now that is service. We were made to feel welcome and looked after in a professional yet friendly way. The little stumble at the end of the meal could have been a disaster in some establishments, but at Harts it just proved that everything is done with grace and expertise. Harts will certainly have my heart for a while.

The restaurant wasn't super busy, but the ambiance was comfortable and despite the fact that we were probably much louder than any other table there it didn't feel like we were disturbing the peace the way it sometimes does in nice restaurants. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. Our drinks orders were taken immediately and the service was attentive but not over-bearing. My brother's girlfriend is vegetarian which usually means she has the option of only 1 or 2 dishes on the menu, but Hart's had a separate vegetarian menu they brought for her which had about 10 dishes on it- again a sign of the excellent service. It sucks when vegetarians are treated like second-class citizens and Hart's was quite the opposite. The food itself was excellent. I ordered the game terrine followed by the sea bream from the set menu (they had no problem with my mixing and matching, which is always nice). Both were delicious. I also tasted the mushroom fricassee starter which was great, and the venison for main course which was truly delicious. The only downside was that they had run out of 2 dishes - I assume because it was right after Christmas and they weren't expecting a busy night. Definitely a disappointment, however, when we mentioned that we were really disappointed that there was no calve's liver left because the person who had wanted it had never tried it before, they actually brought out a small taste of the dish for him to try - in addition to his main course and at no charge. Again, another sign of the excellent service. All in all, a great experience and if you want to have a nice dinner with great service, I can recommend no place more highly than Hart's.
