This restaurant is a sort of general Mediterranean style of cooking with a slight Italian bias. It…read morehas a strange entrance as you have to walk along a corridor and then upstairs before you get to the restaurant. It looks like it was either an old church or law courts as it has a balcony surrounding the main restaurant. The food is good quality and there is plenty of it. The prices are very reasonable - about £5 - £7 for a 2/3 course lunch . The problem comes as there are too few staff so the service is soooo slow that it takes hours for a group to get their food and sometimes some members get their food up to 5 minutes after the others which doesn't make for a very sociable meal. Having said that if you are not in a hurry and there are not a lot of people in your party then it is really good value food.

Authentic and good quality Italian food. This restaurant has a lot of potential. Unfortunately,…read morepresentation is lacking, with a dingy entrance and a long walk up stairs before you actually reach the restaurant. Service is slow, even for an Italian restaurant. The major bonus, of course, is the price, which is so cheap one wonders how they actually make a profit, especially since the food really is enjoyable!

Having read the previous reviews and needing a place to go and celebrate our wedding anniversary,…read morewe decided to give the Old Vicarage a try. The Old Vicarage is a grand looking building adjacent to a church in Branston, on the edge of Burton. The whole place as you entered had a touch of class, from relaxing in a lounge area to choose your dishes to being shown to your table only when the starters were ready, we knew we had made the right choice. We had chosen the three course option (£21.95 + supplements), and were shown into an opulent dining area with large tables, amply spaced and tastly furnished. My starter of mixed terrine including guinea fowl and rabbit, with melba toast and a sweet chutney was tasty, without being startling. The main course and dessert however, were a different story. The main of monkfish and prawns in a chilli and garlic based linguini was full of flavour, whilst my wife's seabass was cooked to perfection. Our desserts of lemon tart and a trio of chocolate desserts were arguably even better, probably the nicest white chocolate I have ever eaten! The pacing of the courses was just right and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Finishing off with petit fours and coffee in the lounge, it felt like the special occasion we wanted it to be. The Old Vicarage is not cheap, but serves great food in wonderful surroundings.

Absolutely terrible We arrived and were seated quickly…read morewhich was awesome. Our waitress came around 15 minutes or so later and took our drink orders. Then another 15 or so and our drinks arrived. We should have took that as an indication of how things work here. Instead we waited another hour and a half with no pop ins by the waitress before I finally flagged down someone to inquire where in the world our food was. We decided we would just leave out of frustration when she came out all frantic with our food. It wasn't even that good and our waitress literally never checked in even after all that. After returning home this is the only bad meal / food experience we had while in England. I paid close to $70 pounds to be incredibly disappointed. I deserve a refund and an apology.

Pre-theatre deals mean if you get there early the food, given it's quality, is a bargain. I thoroughly recommend the goats cheese salad starter - it's served with a walnut dressing, and is divine! The steak's good too. Service is friendly and helpful. The decor is fairly rustic - but there's a nice atmosphere. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants.
