During rush hour, during school hours. Pretty much anytime unless around 2am, the passenger traffic is s little lighter around that time. The service is pretty good. For the amount of people that ride in on a daily basis, on an hourly basis, it's pretty clean. But it's so not worth being squashed like a sardine can. Actually, I'm pretty sure sardines have more room in their cans than 6 train riders. The second avenue line can not come soon enough!

Waiting time for train intervals are approximately ten minute difference because the 1 train is local. Dingy and dirty plus elevators constantly out of order. As a life long New Yorker who travels by subway, bus and railroad this station is horrible. Rubbish strewn overflowing the very minimal receptacles and MTA employees do not remove or dispose garbage. This station gives access to Northern Manhattan's Washington Heights as I sometimes visit friends. This station is on the western edge of Manhattan in the vicinity of George Washington Bridge. The original mosaic wall tiles are charming to admire and well restored.

The Metrocard machines rarely work - today they're only accepting coins, go figure. The staff is super rude even when you're just asking simple questions, with the exception of one really nice man who works the elevators sometimes. During the summer months the whole station feels like a hell hole, you won't make it through the elevators without sweating. If you don't mind the 3-4 block walk, the A station in 181st and Fort Washington is much better.

Someone complained to Yelp that my photos were posted to the wrong page. It's not unusual for a Station to have more than one entrance and exit. This is a cool station because it's above ground. I had no problems when I took the train down to 96th Street. I would definitely use this station again if the need arises. The elevated platform reminds me of the historic train lines I've seen in photos. I hope these two photos are posted correctly. They are two of my favorites. Enjoy

The good thing is you get a nice view. A lot of elevated stations aren't that interesting, but this has a good view in a cool area. It serves only the 1 Train. There's another station a few blocks away where you can make a transfer. Broadway is the other street here. It makes an important intersection in Harlem at 125th Street. There's a lot of history around this. Close to here is Grant's Tomb, if you're into Civil War and political stuff. If you're into African American culture, then this is the place for you. It's close to Columbia University, a very nerdy smart college that can still be cool. There's a lot of good bars and restaurants. It's also close to CCNY. That's the school that was known for their great basketball team until a scandal. Best of all is looking out from the station and seeing everything. There's a great view of the Hudson River. It can get pretty cold. It's way up there with no roof. This can make for great views.

There are plenty of signs at the station that tell you where to wait for that bus and which terminal to go for each airline. FYI, this bus is currently fare-free.

It is served by the 1 and A trains all the time and the C train at all times except late nights. Transfer between the lines is inside the fare control, i.e., you do not need to leave and re-enter to pay another far. There are elevators available for the transfer. The station is reasonably clean and well lit. It's rather loud when the express trains pass through on the center tracks but there isn't much to be done about that except plug your ears. The older I get the more likely a train home is better suited to my needs. I'm giving this station three stars. I don't use it to commute daily. Daily commuters may have a different opinion. The time of day I travel it's quiet and clean. I'm writing this review because of my love of this stations tile. The pastels in this subway are some of my favorite. I do enjoy visiting subway stations and posting on Yelp. I also post in case other Yelpers want to visit historic neighborhood locations. I try to give you ideas. These images employ those photorealism to pixelated techniques he used in his paintings. You may recognize the iconic faces he captured of Philip Glass, Lou Reed, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker, Alex Katz, Pozsi B. Color, Cecily Brown, his own self-portrait in the center of the mezzanine, plus others. Worth a stop if you want to admire some of the great public art created to make everyone's subway ride more enjoyable. Oh, and this 86th St. 2nd Ave. subway station is also easy to get in and out of too!

If you're getting on in age and/or have mobility limitations, the 86th Street 2nd Avenue stop is a game changer. We recently moved to the neighborhood. The first time I got off at the station I couldn't believe our good luck. Train tracks are way below street level -- I've never seen such a subterranean line -- but a series of steep escalators take you all the way to the top. (I think of the Queens Plaza station where I'm inevitably huffing and puffing with all the steps.) The station is clean. The graphics on the wall are beautiful. (Sorry, no photos. Look at someone else's review.) As it's the second stop going south, you'll likely get a seat. And the officers I've spoken to who monitor the turnstiles are actually friendly! BTW, if you're senior, remember to apply for half-priced fare. (There are some advantages of old age!)

We had to run to the track, where we accidentally boarded the wrong train. This was also my fault. Upon our return to the city, there was a large phalanx of extremely fit police officers with their pants tucked into combat boots milling near the entrance. We decided that this was also not a good time to loiter and marvel at the architecture, so we departed expeditiously. The only cabs available outside the station are green ones, which my mother refused to take. They generally operate in the Bronx. But when I finally got a cab through the Curb app, it was...green. Lol. Very nice, clean station, and a very nice employee directed us to the correct track.

Instead of taking responsibility, this man had the nerve to become AGGRESSIVE, acting like it was someone else's fault. How can anyone treat a vulnerable, disabled patient like this? No apology, no remorse, just rude, heartless behavior. Black Sea Transport Ambulance is reckless and dangerous, run by people who clearly don't care about patient safety. If you care about your loved ones, STAY AWAY from this terrible company. They are a complete nightmare, and nobody should have to experience what my mother went through.
