Overall, a pretty decent subway stop given that the chances that all three trains (F/G/R) are not operating is low. There is a booth where you can talk to an employee in the above-ground station on the east side of 4th avenue and another one at the below-ground Manhattan-bound R entry point also on the east side of 4th avenue. There's one guy who cleans up the trash inside the station who is hilarious and will tell you stories.

There are also directional signage with arrows "DOWNTOWN" which I admire, appreciate and value artisan skilled trade tile setter when the MTA NYC subway system was built. There are wooden benches available. This station is not ADA accessible. This station contains two underground basement levels including a mezzanine level. The mezzanine level contain fare control area, station agent booth, MetroCard and OMNY machines. The station facade contain a green globe indicating a 24/7 hour token booth with a station agent for access to the station. The 72nd Street is the closest station to both the Dakota apartment building (which is immediately outside the station) and the Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park.

I have sometimes thought of Greenpoint as "far" but a jaunt from Midtown via Court Square delivers impressive metrics when compared to the more obvious (to me) Williamsburg route. You get two great tastes here, the "classic" subway look of the G and E and the outdoor views of the 7.

Court House Square has just exploded with development of mega high-rise buildings. Not too long ago this area was just factories and pretty deserted late at night and into the weekend. Recall taking the 7 train and you see Swingline, Wonder Bread, Chiclets, Maiden Form were some of the buildings as the train passes by. These stations have come a long way from where they were before. E and F train station was called 23rd Ely and now it's Court Sq-23.

I'd never been -- the station is only three years old -- so I stopped by Sunday to (pardon the expression) 'case the joint out.' Good thing! I entered at Grand Central Station, followed signs and walked. Then walked some more. Took escalators, maybe an elevator. Finally ended up at ticketing. I don't think I would have allotted enough time if I hadn't known the layout beforehand. It was off hour. Not many people there. The customer service rep, a wonderful woman named Heather, wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing. She actually left her post to show me the tracks and helped me get my bearings. (Guess what! Heather was there Monday morning when I returned. I felt like I was seeing an old friend!) Here's a tip for everyone: If you don't want to deal with the underground labyrinth, look for the elevator on Madison off 47th Street. It'll take you directly down to ticketing and the waiting area. And specifically for older folks: To reap the senior discount, purchase your tickets the day of your trip, not before. There's no upcharge to buy tickets on the train. If I heard correctly, senior fares are the same for peak and off-peak -- but don't quote me on that! This station is light, bright, much quieter than Penn. Bathrooms are infinitely better. Now that I know what I'm doing, this may become my station of choice.

But I have to award five stars for the clean bathroom. Connects you to almost wherever you need to go in Manhattan on on the East or West side, Queens, Brooklyn or the Bronx. The underground passageway also connects you the the World Trade Center Memorial, Brookfield Place, and Path trains... just follow the signs. Great way to stay dry if you work in the area during the winter or the rain storm and have to get from the train station to Path/Brookfield Place, etc. Various exits will lead you to where you need to go, but one should know or have to figure out which exit to take or ask someone. Escalators in the Fulton Center will lead you to certain trains - mid-level is the 4,5 and lower levels are the rest. Follow the signs. The Fulton Center Station also has Dunkin and other eateries where you can purchase snacks and food if you need to grab a snack before you head to/from your destination. Also, refill your Omni card now that Metrocard has been retired, or just tap your credit/debit card to pay.

Good considering the location isn't anything interesting. It serves the N and W Trains. These are almost the same thing, with both terminating a few stops north of here, so there's plenty of chances to catch a train up that ways. It gets good marks for having frequent trains to Astoria. This is a good way to get from Long Island City to Astoria, the only line that passes through. It can be difficult to find the entrance. It's at the corner of 31st Street and 39th Avenue. They allow crossing over after entering turnstiles.
