It's been in our list of places to return since. This summer we were on our way to Charleston and passed through again. Somehow we remembered the route off the highway even without looking at the map (you remember what you love). It was good to be back! As my fellow Detroit Elite Kitty K said, this place IS like Toys R Us for adults. So much booze. Aisle after aisle. It's truly the most impressive liquor store I've ever been to. And, given its location in Kentucky, it definitely caters to bourbon drinkers specifically, but you can also find loads of other spirits as well as beer and wine. And the prices are about as low as you can legally find. Now, I like a beverage now and again but my vice is food, sweets in particular, so I love perusing the market aisles here, picking up unique bourbon infused chocolates, Kentucky made candy, etc. Clearly I got more than a few bourbon balls, and discovered the Ruth Hunt candy brand and their amaaaazing pulled cream candy. I also got a derby pie from the frozen section to enjoy in my hotel room later that night. They also carry savory snacks, have a nice selection of cheeses and charcuterie, a deli counter to get sandwiches, and a humidor for cigar lovers. This time my husband came armed with a list and was able to narrow it down to one specific bottle he was interested in. It was hard to not want to buy up the whole shop but given how many bottles we already have on our liquor cart at home we couldn't justify getting any more. But you better believe once those clear out we'll be back to restock!

When I went through, I decided to order port since I didn't know what they had, and that's a pretty standard liquor. I asked for a tawny port (which refers to the age), and they apparently had no idea what I meant by that--they thought it was a brand name. There were two employees working on this and neither had a clue. Maybe it's just that I'm used to going to stores (both small and large--Binny's has really knowledgeable staff) who know what they're talking about or know where to get the info, but I was underwhelmed. Luckily, I went through for the wacky drive-through experience and that's what I got.

The staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience fun and approachable. Their barrel picks are top-notch, and the fact that you can sample them at the bar for just five bucks is unbeatable. Prices in the shop are very reasonable for their picks and most of their selection. Some tater tax but thats understandable. The street is reached from Interstate 75 by taking the Man O' War exit - the name, of course of another iconic great horse in Kentucky and American racing history. So much awesomeness before even reaching the store. Total Wine, of course is the supermarket of spirits and wine, with many locations in multiple cities and states. This location has everything people have come to expect. Enormous variety of selections, products at all price points, staff and management that are eager to assist and make your visit pleasant.
