A few years back when my husband and I were on a road trip to the Smoky Mountains my bourbon loving husband requested we stop in Lexington specifically to visit the Liquor Barn. And OMG. It's been in our list of places to return since. This summer we were on our way to Charleston and passed through again. Somehow we remembered the route off the highway even without looking at the map (you remember what you love). It was good to be back! As my fellow Detroit Elite Kitty K said, this place IS like Toys R Us for adults. So much booze. Aisle after aisle. It's truly the most impressive liquor store I've ever been to. And, given its location in Kentucky, it definitely caters to bourbon drinkers specifically, but you can also find loads of other spirits as well as beer and wine. And the prices are about as low as you can legally find. Now, I like a beverage now and again but my vice is food, sweets in particular, so I love perusing the market aisles here, picking up unique bourbon infused chocolates, Kentucky made candy, etc. Clearly I got more than a few bourbon balls, and discovered the Ruth Hunt candy brand and their amaaaazing pulled cream candy. I also got a derby pie from the frozen section to enjoy in my hotel room later that night. They also carry savory snacks, have a nice selection of cheeses and charcuterie, a deli counter to get sandwiches, and a humidor for cigar lovers. This time my husband came armed with a list and was able to narrow it down to one specific bottle he was interested in. It was hard to not want to buy up the whole shop but given how many bottles we already have on our liquor cart at home we couldn't justify getting any more. I used to take this place for granted when I lived in Kentucky, but on my last few visits back, got to appreciate one of these retail meccas, especially since it was a nice sight to see so many other options for bourbon that haven't made their way out west (yet). I love this spot mostly due to their food selections, large scale displays, and their small pour options that you can enjoy in store. In April, I stopped by with my husband and we got to try some highly allocated products at a fraction of the cost (1 oz pours). And I'm talking about stuff that is in extreme scarce supply...simply amazing! They also have some advertised flight specials on printed menus and on their a frame chalkboard signage in front of the store. The pour bar is adjacent to the meat and cheese/deli bar and both are equally popular. You can also find nice appetizers, charcuterie items, desserts (found some amazing Kerns Derby Pies and tarts), mixers, drinks, beer/wine/spirits, alcohol themed apparel, and accessories. In the past, I was able to purchase some drinking glassware and even some highly coveted Ale-8-One! The weekends do have sampling events, and on the weekend that I went in April (during the Keeneland Spring meets, so a busy time), it was full of samplings, with demos on both spirits, mixers, and sauces. They do have some great pricing, but need to compare and contrast some pricing for certain items. Definitely the spot to stop by if you're in the area. Highly recommended. I have been searching for Oskar Blues Brewery items and they have 10 different kinds, when other places have none! The prices are so low, you will be happy when you check out. There are many Liquor Barns in Lexington, this is one of the bigger ones and they have most anything that you need on the liquor side. They have a very good selection of bourbon and whiskey - remember all bourbons are whisky but not all whisky is bourbon. In Kentucky this is a thing. You can also purchases some tastings of liquor so you do not have to commit to purchasing a bottle of something that you may or may not like when you get home. On the weekends they have free tastings of liquor and wines that is nice too. The store is neat and clean has a great array of mixers and snacks. They always have great premade gift baskets so you can grab a quick gift if needed. Even if I am not on the hunt for something specific I will walk through this location just to see what they are featuring. The staff is friendly and helpful. This location is right off I-75 so it is super easy to grab something if you are looking to tailgate it is easy to grab all that you need to head toward Commonwealth Stadium! read more

Made a visit here to check out the wine selection to make mimosas. Since it had been a while, I had time to walk the entire store. As I did, many employees stopped to ask if I needed help. They were all very friendly and chatted about the best dry wines to make mimosas. They even suggested a variety of wines that would be great for varying occasions. A guy told us that he bought the DRF or Daily Racing Form that Dad & I read daily at the Liquor Barn here in Kentucky. Literally around the corner from us, we asked the cashier there where is it located cause my Dad couldn't find it in the store. Instead of saying, 'Let me check, I'm not sure.' Some would say that Disney World (or Disney Land, depending on your coast) is the happiest place on earth.. I would disagree.. I say it's the Liquor Barn in Lexington, Kentucky. Immediately, I told my husband this has to be the happiest place on earth and he could not disagree with that sentiment! Driving around Lexington, my husband and I spotted billboards advertising for the Liquor Barn. We happened to be be staying in the area and went hunting for this local landmark of all things liquor as soon as we found our hotel, which just happened to be be very nearby. What a score. We found it, but nearly passed it in traffic (though I don't see how as it's a gigantic building with the name Liquor Barn emblazoned across it-duh- impossible to miss), which made my husband practically stop traffic in an effort to get to it. At any rate, we turned around and made a beeline for the Liquor Barn (aka Disney for adults). It felt as if we had located the Holy Grail... I'm only half-kidding. Aisle after aisle, premium spirits lined the shelves - and at extremely competitive prices. Seriously, the selection was awesome and the prices on bourbon and whiskey were rock bottom. While the pricing was bottom of the barrel, the quality was anything but. Truthfully, we both had a terrible time choosing only one bottle- so we didn't and opted to get some more. We wound up picking up bottles of Old Forrester, Woodford Reserve and Jack Daniels, as well as snapping up some great minis (Fireball, Southern Comfort and much more) for the hotel room. Yes, we made sure that we had a nicely stocked mini bar. Oh, what a fun-filled night!!! Other than whiskey and bourbon, there was a great selection of vodka, tequila, rum, mixers, wine, craft and imported beers, champagne, hard ciders and bar accessories. Elsewhere, we found the clearance section (yippee), a huge walk-in humidor for the cigar connoisseur and even a deli section for groceries and snacks. It truly was the happiest place on earth- you could literally eat and drink on site. Prices were great and selection outstanding. Customer service was pretty great, too. My husband is so impressed, he actually added the app to his iPhone even though we don't even reside in KY. How can they call themselves liquor barn if they do not have malt liquor in stock? I looked up one brand, Mickey's, and the website states that Liquor Barn at this location would have it. I asked a person on the floor and even someone at the customer service area and they both stated that they had no idea about that brand. I've never been at such a huge liquor store in my life. They have countless options of your favorite liquor brands throughout the store. I go to a lot of whiskey & tequila tastings but I don't always find what I'm looking for at my local liquor store so I was happy to find alcohol not sold in Columbus.The staff was friendly, attentive & answered all my questions. Although you may be able to purchase some of the items at another store for a little less money, you won't get the specialty items, the selection, or the many events available at Liquor Barn. The app is great to keep informed about all events and new items. I like that you can often times go to the tastings last minute if you decide to do so and don't have to get dressed up for the occasion. We originally came here with the intention of picking up a few bottles of wine from a local winery (that is now closed, boo) for a friend that used to live in the area. We found the wine. And soooooo much other liquor! Amazing selection of local and imported liquors, beers, wine, and whiskey (yes that deserves its own label). The moonshine delighted me because that's not something you really see back in Chicago. Great prices, too. The staff is friendly and eager to assist, as well. The place also offers cheese, meats, utensils, and everything else you might need for a party event (that provably includes alcohol). Seriously, this place blows other liquor stores out of the water. I shopped at this store multiple times and I usually go with my partner and I usually bring my id in because I'm the one who is buying so this time I went in but and old racist man who probably don't even know what day it is was very rude and being a smart a$$ at check out " saying that he shouldn't even give me alcohol because of my age" but I am clearly legal age so not sure what's wrong with him . While talking about how he shouldn't sell me alcohol when I turnt 21 . Then he ask my partner for her ID which I said I'm who buying and she is shadowing me not doing anything nor talking he ask her what her birthday is . Everything is so easy to find and if I cant find something there is always an employee near by to help me. Really like this liquor barn location - they've got a deli where you can order $1 hotdogs loaded with tomatoes, pepperoncinis, sauer kraut, you name it! They also offer other deli options, like BLT, club, and chicken salad sandwiches. In addition to a large beer menu (~20 beers on tap), they offer wine by the glass, mimosas, bloody Mary's, and even screw drivers. We went here to watch UK play Tennessee in basketball after we found that all the nearby bars and restaurants were packed. Had a really nice time! When we went out to dinner tonight I saw the mecca of Liquor Barns. I thought the one on Beaumont Centre Parkway was top drawer, but then I saw this location. I have never seen a liquor store so big. I had to walk out of the parking lot and across the street to get a picture of the entire building. (See posted pictures.) Mom went inside to get whiskey and I said outside with my nephew. When Mom left, I got my turn. She thought I wouldn't come out --- she had seen the wine selection and she knows how much of a wine snob I am. The wine selection was excellent, as well as the liquor and beer/ale selections. I was very restrained, and bought no wine. It was easy since you can't take wine on planes anymore. This place is one of the best liquor stores I have ever been in. If you are looking for Bourbons, including those hard to find ones, then Liquor Barn is your go to spot. First off, this place is gigantic and I could have easily spent a couple of hours in here just wondering around and looking at everything they have. From crackers to cakes, from beer to bourbon if you want it they have it. This place is super organized and super clean. You can easily find what you are looking for in a matter of minutes, or you can be like me and wander around and need to be put on a time limit to leave :-) The staff is super duper friendly and helpful! We spent a good twenty to thirty minutes in the bourbon aisle with an associate who walked us through multiple different bourbons and helped us make our selections. Tastings are available for a small fee. Prices are very competitive and they have some great sale prices! I sooooo wish we had one of these closer to Cincinnati! I was in the United States Air Force many many moons ago and I had the privilege to live in Germany. Germany is known for Sausage and Beer, well it is to me. I lived in a town called Bitburg and my apartment was directly across from a brewery that makes Bitburger Beer. I fell in love with it because the locals swear by it and I'm most places it your only option. After leaving Germany I've been searching the states looking for this product. I manage to find a few bottles but it was the American import versions which is more bitter than the overseas product. I've been to this place many times but never when my Germany beer cravings are on ten. So needless to say I found my beer sitting on a massive wall of not so popular Germany beers. If you can't find what you are looking for here you are either very picky or looking for some homemade mountain hooch that your cousin billy made in the backyard. Liquor barn had an event unlike one that I've seen them do before. It was a bourbon extravaganza where they sold tickets for tastings as well as raffles. This was a 12$ event after Eventbrite charges and you got 5 sample tickets to taste things from bourbon, beer and wine. The raffles were for bottles of pappy van winkle that were going on every 10 to 15 minutes. They also had samples of some local food like deez nuts and Larry make beer cheese. The event seemed to have been put on rarely well but some things I feel like could have been changed for the better. The event lasted 9-1pm and they were having raffles up until then so if you went through your 5 sample tickets at 9 you were not allowed to purchase any more. There was one food truck there for 1500+. People and the biggest part of what I didn't like was how they took the winners inside. When your ticket was called you went to the front and waited until about 10 tickets were called and they then took the line through the crowd inside. Well inside they didn't recheck your ticket number from when it was checked outside (may have started after they saw there system was broken). We were walking through the crowd and a lady came up to someone in line and said I'll be your moral support then got inside and walked out with a bottle and not a winning ticket. Liquor barn employees were told so I hope they changed that later in the event. Now back to the positive, if you liked bourbon then this was great to taste ones you might not have before. You also had a chance to win a gift from the different alcohol vendors at the end with a drawing. After liquor barn was bought things have changed a little and I'm not sure if it's better or worse I guess time will tell. All liquor is controlled by the ABC board in the state I live in, so this is a great change of pace. So much booze. Beer, liquor, wine, and even food all in the same store, what a crazy concept. Although I did find a couple beers that were past their prime on the shelves, I have no other complaints. Super cheap bourbon prices, amazing beer selection with reasonable prices, and nothing wrong with the wine selection either.
