If you're looking to redo your kitchen cabinetry then definitely work with Eric and team ASAP! What I found refreshing about Eric is his insane attention to detail, his willingness to spend a lot of time to figure out your needs, and the thoroughness of all of the follow up plans with layouts and 3D drawings. The most intense part of the process is usually figuring out what you need. What quality? What color? How many drawers? Where does the garbage go? Where can I store my blender? And this is where Eric and team really shine. We were redoing our kitchen and had no idea what type of cabinetry we should go with and how it should we configured. Eric has spent hours talking to us about our needs, how we would utilize the kitchen, where we want to store things, and based on these use cases, he came up with configurations that would work with our space and needs. He suggested a cabinet brand that is high quality and in our budget. He even made YouTube videos to explain the difference in quality to me when I texted him a question! I worked with Eric on my kitchen remodel and I cannot recommend him highly enough! He met with me onsite and talked about the design and my vision, had a van with sample finishes and options to look at, and did a complete custom design that transformed my space! He is a thoughtful designer and made many valuable suggestions, such as relocating the double oven to open up the doorway space and eliminating a blind corner by having it open on the other side of the peninsula. We went through a couple of design iterations and he was great with incorporating all my customization ideas (charging drawer, spice drawers, command station cabinet). He provides drawings and 3-d renderings that make it easy to visualize. My contractor didn't really need anything else to do the kitchen. The cabinet quality is excellent - we went with the Sollera line and it is well built. I wanted to do a couple of open shelves and he was able to provide those in the same finish. First, I was looking for excellent customer service. Eric pays so much attention to detail and has homemade educational videos for each aspect of cabinetry that one may have questions about or want to know options about. He responds immediately and is savvy on email, text, and phone. He takes the time to answer questions patiently. After the cabinets are ordered, he custom made a video detailing each element of my cabinets and the invoice, and he met with my contractor to make sure we were all on the same page. After the cabinets were installed, he followed up over a period of time to make sure everything was okay. He cares about his customers and takes pride in his product. A friend of ours who demolished his entire home to add a second story (but kept his kitchen cuz he liked his cabinets from MTKC that much) referred us to Eric, and we couldn't be happier! We had these 2 concave areas next to our fireplace and for the longest time we just couldn't wrap our heads around how to fill/properly furnish them. We ended up having Eric design and put in a wine bar and floor-to-ceiling cabinets for us. We were so pleased with the finished products that we ended up also renovating our 2 bathrooms and ordering cabinets from them. I looked into 3 different cabinetry firms to fill an odd nook in my office with a large bookshelf. Out of the firms, Eric was the most detail oriented and thoughtful. He walked me through all the options and took the time to explain how pricing was different for each option to fit my budget. I cannot praise MTKC enough ... before finding this amazing firm, my wife and I researched numerous cabinet stores and met with half-a-dozen of 'em up and down the peninsula (using Yelp as a reference). During a month's time, we had several nice conversations, received quotes/estimates from different vendors, and saw a variety of cabinets at multiple price-points. But after a two-hour session with Eric, we realized MTKC was head-and-shoulders-and-chest-and-waist above the competition. I could write paragraph after paragraph about MTKC and echo the 5-star sentiment of other reviewers ... but I'll try to be specific and succinct! Let's start with the end: we completed the full kitchen renovation in early July and the Sollera cabinets MTKC provided are absolutely beautiful ... the perfect color, glazing, and functionality. We couldn't be more pleased with the final result. So in Eric, we trust. This fine gentleman held our hands through the entire process ... consulting and educating us about the design, the many options, the different materials, etc. Eric was incredibly patient, answering all our questions clearly and honestly (we are home reno newbies) ... in greater detail than the other cabinet pros we spoke with earlier. His many recommendations were spot-on and budget-conscious - for example, the in's and out's of cabinet construction or the ideal cabinet sizes in relationship to our specific kitchen lay-out. Eric's attention to detail - advising us on things that didn't even enter our minds - was excellent. And such awareness comes only from experience. He really made us feel comfortable with his sense of humor and can-do attitude. The level of communication Eric provided was as good as any service professional I have EVER dealt with ... whether it be via phone, email, or face-to-face. Eric even visited our house on a number of occasions (his father came by as well!) to double-check measurements and make sure everything was in good order. When a couple of the cabinet doors that were delivered had small hairline cracks on them, Eric had them replaced immediately with no problem whatsoever. Done and done. Fantastic service from start to finish! We were referred to MTKC by our contractor, (and were relieved to find outstanding reviews here as well) and Steven Au called us back immediately after we left a message. We met Steven and Eric who were great in going over our kitchen and bathroom cabinet designs. It took us a long time to decide on which brand of cabinet to use, we were thinking about using a competing cabinet, but we liked Eric and Steven more. First we wanted to support a local small business instead of a big box store, but most importantly we felt that they really cared about how our kitchen would be designed and function. We also knew that if we had any problems during installation that they would help out. Eric's design skills were great, and he is very very detail oriented. Every door opening, pullout, and cabinet door is well thought out. Much much better than what Home Depot came up with. We decided on 2 kinds of cabinets. We used Sollera cabinets in the kitchen and Kraftmaid everywhere else. With every purchase Eric and his dad were great in looking over the fine details and making sure we had all the info in advance. There was no hard sell, and he even admitted that fewer cabinets in one part of our kitchen would be better for the design/flow, and use. When it came time to install the cabinets we had some last minute changes with our contractor's installer. Eric and Steven came to our home within an hour to help us make some decisions and even told our contractor a few tips on how to best install our cabinets. All in all we've been very happy with MTKC and have placed about 3 orders with them. Eric even delivered one of our bathroom cabinets to our home himself! I think when you buy something as important and expensive as kitchen cabinets, you need to realize that you are not only buying furniture, but you are buying people, and as far as people go Eric and Steven are great! Also, they were extremely responsive by email and by phone, unlike several other kitchen designers we talked to. Price wise, they are competitive and generally are lower than the big box places, even after the "promotions" that home depot and Lowes run regularly. You will find it is challenging to compare exact pricing on cabinets even of the same brand because there are so many details, but trust me, we did our homework and MTKC pricing is very competitive and again, outside of price, you want to be confident in the people you are buying cabinets from and MTKC walked us thru every step from design to installation. We originally went to MTKC based on the great Yelp reviews, but Eric completely let us down. We spent two months with Eric working on the design, at least 50% of which was due to rework from Eric not listening to our feedback. Considering that many cabinet stores offer a free design service, I would have expected more by putting down a $500 design fee. Very disappointed in the service - very little creative input, did not listen to our feedback, poor customer service, and slow design process. We have received much better service and creative input from our local Home Depot store - not to mention much faster. I would strongly recommend NOT paying Eric's design fee. My wife already reviewed them but i liked these guys a lot and wanted to review them myself also. As mentioned, we are first time home owners, most of our previous furniture are hand-me-down or from Ikea. So when we got our own house, I tried to go the Ikea route and save some money, but in the end, when we factored in all the assembly costs, things weren't exactly adding up. So we decided that if we're going to spend the money on all that construction labor, might as well put in something a little bit nicer for our home. Like my wife said, we talked to some cabinet shops and some other contractors. Here's my reason for choosing Eric. My wife is incredibly picky, I know =) But I had to be realistic w/ our wine taste on a beer budget, so custom cabinets were out of the question for us. And I was happy to see that Eric actually had the patience to work with her, so that in itself is worth a million bucks, ok, maybe not a million, but it's worth it. He spent time to teach us the different brands of cabinets, went over different layouts, and how the different woods & door styles affect the prices points. Eric helped us with all kitchen, bathroom, and dining room buffet, and entertainment system cabinets. He came up with great designs and was very patient with my constant changing of ideas. While we didn't price shop (given our short time frame), we found his pricing reasonable for what we wanted. In addition, he let us take his samples of all wood colors so that we could pick countertop and tiling colors. We were certain that we would need to find a kitchen designer to help us visualize a new kitchen with out the contraints of the two walls we were about to remove - but we were wrong. After doing some research on Yelp! we discovered MTKC and went to meet Eric. Even though we didn't have an appointment when we first visted, Eric welcomed us into the showroom and spent over an hour with us showing us his previous projects and helping us get comfortable with the process. He worked with us to design our entire custom kitchen, priced it in three different cabinet options and helped us determine what would be the best option for our budget. We ultimately chose the Solera cabinets which are custom made in Canada and they are beautiful. The Solera line is priced between the Kraftmaid and Plato options we looked at and proved to be the best choice for our budget (even though I really had my heart initially set on the dark Plato bamboo cabinets in their showroom - maybe in our next house). The Solera and Plato lines have the option of having green cabinet boxes - no particle board like other cabinets. It will cost you between 10 - 15% extra, but nice to know that you have the option here. The kitchen in our 1950s Eichler is now beautiful, modern and functional and we thank Eric everyday for helping us get rid of the traditional mess that was previously our kitchen. Best prices, best service bar none! Anyone who has undergone a remodel (kitchen or otherwise) knows what a long, tedious and bumpy process it usually is. Our process was no different except when it came to planning and buying our kitchen cabinets from Eric at MTKC. I spent about 2 months researching kitchen cabinets and, after requesting estimates from 6 different businesses and receiving bids from 4, I decided to go with MTKC. My decision was based on 1) MTKC's competitive pricing and 2) more importantly, the level of service that comes with a purchase from MTKC. I'm not exaggerating when I say that their service is the BEST. Here's some of what I've experienced with Eric: - prompt email and phone communication - does not up-sell. Looks for cost effective options/solutions - has made a few visits to the house (SF) from his office (San Mateo) to consult and drop off samples - delivered more samples and faucets / sink to my office - offered to come back to the house to advise/consult with our contractor Eric's high level of service didn't stop after the sale was made - it continues to this day. We have yet to install our cabinets but I'm confident that Eric will be there when/if we need him. We're planning to add a built-in desk/cabinet to our home office and we'll definitely call Eric. read more

These folks were quite the buzz kill. I got the groovy buzz back at The Cabinet Center in San Carlos. Much better service, much better pricing and much better design sense. We decided to visit MTKC after looking up various places on yelp. I decided I no longer wanted to bother with places that didn't have any good reviews. The showroom was small but well laid out, with examples of cabinetry from several different lines at different price points ranging from the low-middle range and up to fully custom cabinetry (and prices to match). We had Eric design our kitchen, explaining as he went along why certain things we wanted were and were not possible, and ways to design around problems. He seems to know every possible pitfall, and he knows his product lines inside out. We had him price Kraftmaid for us, with the 1/2-inch plywood box upgrade, because that was what our contractor recommended. We also priced Merillat Masterpiece cabinets with 1/2-inch boxes at another store (essentially an identical product). After going through design and bidding with both places (basically simultaneously), we decided to choose MTKC, despite the fact that they were slightly more expensive (and I do mean slightly--the other company was essentially just trying to undercut whatever price MT came up with). In the end, we decided that service and knowledgeability and the fact that we trusted Eric trumped price for us. So far, we haven't been disappointed. I cannot even describe the exceptional level of service we have received from Eric and his father. I have been very pregnant and sick through the whole process, but Eric has gone out of his way to make sure everything ran smoothly for us. He's answered questions for us at all times of day, done _hours_ of research on our appliance choices to make sure things would fit, and recommended an appliance salesman who was nearly as accommodating as he is. And through it all, the only pressure I felt to purchase from MTKC was the fact that the service was _so_ exceptional and that I knew if I went with them, I'd get a good product with solid research behind it. That's the kind of pressure you _want_ to push you toward a purchase. We were initially looking at some of the ultra low-priced Chinese cabinet places, but I insisted on flat-front cabinets and soft-close. Our budget was about $10k for a 14' x 10' (ie. small) kitchen, and they were able to work with us to get us plywood, a nice stain, self-close drawers, and solid Cherry fronts, though there was also a well-timed sale on the Cherry cabinets from Kraftmaid that brought the design into our price range. Also, the fact that our ceilings are under 8' means that we got shorter upper cabinets, which also made it more affordable. If your tastes run toward American-made cabinetry with face frames and you have more than a pittance to spend on cabinets, you should do well here. If you're looking for lots of Italian-made custom-made cabinetry, I don't know if they can acommodate you. They do have some beautiful eco choices, though, and their prices on Kraftmaid are definitely better than your local big box store (and the service and design is better as well). It's now been six weeks since we started working with MTKC and they the cabinets have arrived. Eric called us in advance to let us know he'd be over to work with our contractor and explain any details. We ended up changing the time for him to come, and even with half an hour's notice, he made it. He is always punctual, by the way, and calls if anything is delaying him. In addition to cabinets, MTKC sells cabinet hardware, quartz and hard surface countertop materials, a few higher-end sink brands and a few higher-end faucet brands. We ended up purchasing hardware and a sink from them, but got our faucet online since there were some amazing deals they couldn't match. Still, I asked Eric about all of my choices first. After working with Eric for all this time, we've been very impressed with him, but we've also grown quite fond of him. He's intelligent and hardworking--extremely conscientious--and personable. I hope MTKC does well in the future. read more

It has been a couple of months now since we completed our kitchen project. Eric did a wonderful job helping us to select the perfect cabinets and design for our kitchen. He is patient and meticulous, making sure that everything will work perfectly. My wife is very picky especially when it comes to color, designs, etc. It took us a long time to decide the color, design, and styles. Eric was patient to help us throughout the process. We used the contractor Eric had referred to us, and it was also a great experience. Our friends and families really like our new kitchen and we always receive compliments about the design and color of the kitchen. We are thinking about remodeling our bathrooms may be next year, and would not hesitate to use Eric again. I would not hesitate to refer Eric and his father to any of our friends. Remodeling kitchen or bathroom is a big project and may involve a large amount of money. I would rather spend more and be satisfied at the end, than trying to save some money and end up not satisfied and having to redo the project again. After numerous horrendous experiences with vendors/contractors, I are thrilled to have found MTKC. Eric is an amazing person to work with; he is easy-going, patient, and very detail-oriented! Even my husband loves Eric and calls him a "breath of fresh air"! Most importantly, I love how responsive Eric is. You can always count on him to get back to you in a timely manner. We found MTKC here on Yelp, based on the other reviews. And I must say, everything worked out wonderfully. I can very easily recommend working with Eric, without reservation. He was friendly, helpful, patient, and worked to help us to design what we wanted (not necessarily what he wanted.) We ordered Kraftmaid, so I don't have an opinion on their other lines, but the Kraftmaid came in just as we expected. I have no connection to the store or anyone there, and found it via Yelp. But I will clearly go back there for the next time we need any cabinets. read more

We went to MTKC after reading all the good reviews it has on Yelp, and we're so glad we did. For our remodeling project, we needed cabinets for two bathrooms and a hallway. Our experience with MTKC is above and beyond our expectations. Eric is very knowledgeable about cabinets as well as other issues one may find during remodeling and made good recommendations to our project. During the design phase, Eric (and his father) pointed out a few flaws in our original design, which was really valuable. Eric also promised to take care of damages, if any, when the cabinets were delivered without us asking. The cabinets were delivered on time, and fortunately, there weren't any damages. What we'd like to point out is all the things Eric did beyond providing us with cabinets. During our design meeting with Eric, we mentioned that it was very difficult to find good contractors to do the remodeling. Eric offered to recommend someone, and this person turned out to be the best contractor we've worked with thus far. Eric followed up with our project and the contractor he recommended throughout the entire project, all the way to the end, even after the cabinets had been delivered and the payment had been made. He is also very responsive to all our communications (e.g., almost all my emails to Eric were answered within a few minutes to a few hours). We're now considering future projects with Eric and the contractor. read more

Eric helped us recently re-model our kitchen, and we totally recommend him and his services. We had a tight timeline, and he helped us get the cabinets on time, and help the contractor (who was referred to us by Eric) complete the job on time. He gave us several options on cabinets, door and trim styles, and countertops. He spent time on reviewing our space, and what we wanted. He was able to accommodate the appliances we wanted, the features on the cabinets we wanted, and the constraints of our existing structure. When we had questions, he would get back to us in a timely manner. After spending some time with other kitchen designers, we felt Eric would gives the kitchen we desired. We were not disappointed.
