I was running late to an appointment for my cat, and was called to see if I would arrive before a specific time. I told the person over the phone that my partner, who had been en route with my cat, had already arrived at their location after she checked back in with me, but she did not even check to see whether he was there. My partner had already let everyone at the front desk know about his arrival and appointment time. He had been waiting about 4 minutes. But the person I spoke to did not even bother to check the waiting area, and still called me back to talk about their late policy, and that they would not accommodate us next time. To note, we live about 20 ish minutes away, in Cambridge, and this was the first time we were a bit late. I will not be returning to the Waltham location. The people working the front desk are very rude as well. read more

Generally this organization has a good reputation. That is why we chose to go there when our 15-year-old shih Tzu mix was experiencing some medical issues. The "vet" we got must have been new. At first the nurse came out to look at our pet, and then immediately a doctor that was obviously younger and we would come to determine less experienced. The nurse recommended bringing the dog into an exam room, but was rebuffed by the doctor. She then left with an annoyed look on her face. I put vet in quotes because I don't believe she actually knew a lot of what she was talking about. When she thought her laptop screen was out of you I could see that she was googling the symptoms that we brought the dog in for and she was basically regurgitating the same information that we had read the night before. We were hoping that it was just an ear infection and not vestibular disease, although she seemed convinced of the latter. Despite getting a second opinion from a dermatologist that said it looked like the dog may have a "slate ear infection" (but for the conceited they would not put their name on it), she still would not prescribe antibiotics. Instead we got a prescription of anti nausea medicine to help with the dogs dizziness. I actually wanted a paper prescription so I could source it from an online pharmacy but that didn't have any either. We walked out of there after spending over $300 not really having any new information on what was going on with our dog. Fortunately our dog has gotten better, her eyes are no longer darting side to side, she's gotten steady on her feet again, and her head tilt while not completely resolved has gotten better. None of this can be credited to the doctor that saw her. I almost feel like calling my bank and telling them to charge it back because I don't think I got what I paid for, and if our dog had not improved we would have brought her to another vet for a second opinion. read more

My boyfriend and I took our kitten in to find out why she was hiding and vomiting. Maybe she had eaten an object or an insect. Other than that, she was fine and healthy, especially since she had just turned 1. According to the hospital, she had eaten a piece of clothing. So I thought they might have cut up a piece of clothing somehow, induced vomiting, ingested it, or some other non-aggressive means. But as soon as she arrived, they told her she needed surgery. And more surgeries the next day, claiming there was an infection after the first surgery. On the third day, they said she was better. But on the fourth day, they called to say she needed another emergency surgery because her intestines had been perforated after the previous surgeries. The bill came to $20,000 for a place with no infrastructure, no experienced people. They looked like girls who had just left school. On each visit, I saw only young girls. One of them kept talking about surgeries and that she wouldn't survive. Wow! She clearly isn't doing very well! She's not trying, trust me. When you talk to her, you feel like she has no love, no sense of professionalism. And even less love for the animal or the profession. People who work in hospitals with humans and animals need to have love and do their best to save them. Once again, I need to do "THE BEST"! And that's not what you find in this place. My boyfriend and I are feeling immeasurable and inestimable pain. Our first pet, our daughter. She is the love of our lives. She is always with us most of the time, every day. It will not be the same now. Right now, we feel guilty and guilty for bringing her to this hospital and leaving our cat, who suffered so much, here. I hope you never have this terrible and painful experience. Painful for our cat, who was in this hospital, and for us, who lost her and regret every day for having brought her here. I made an appt for two pets for a regular checkup at this place to see Tamara Kremer Mecabell, who I heard was wonderful. When I called on a Wednesday (Sept 4) to confirm the appointment for a Thursday (Sept 5) because I hadn't heard from anyone, I was told my appt was on Tuesday (Sept 3), and I had already missed it!!! I was charged a $100 cancellation fee ($50 for each pet). I understand why businesses have cancellation fees, BUT in order to charge a cancellation fee, you have to collect a fee in advance and/or have a CLEARLY STATED WRITTEN cancellation policy. You can't just randomly charge someone a cancellation fee. Not only is it not enforceable, it's illegal, and totally unprofessional. I asked the young woman in billing where they have their cancellation fee written out and she fully admitted they don't. They just tell you about in when you make the appointment, she said. First of all, nobody told me about it verbally when I made the appt. Second of all, even if they had, that is not enough. Just beware, this place lacks a level of professionalism. Also, while other services have automated reminders (like literally, some places will text and email you and even give you the opportunity to confirm or cancel an appt by text message), this place still relies on archaic manual methods of having someone go down the list of appointments the day before and calling everyone by phone and leaving voice messages. read more

My first visit today for an urgent care appointment with my dog who has been having stomach issues all weekend. They got us in at incredibly short notice and their staff were all so friendly. Dr Natasha explained everything in great detail and got us set up with medications and a good plan. Everything fairly priced and no surprise costs at the end. The atmosphere is very calm, no loud barking or chaotic noises anywhere so the animals all feel comfortable and everything was very clean. I took my 11 y/o Yorkie in for he had cut back on all his activities that he loved. Eating ,going for walks etc. His breathing was also "off" The receptionist was very pleasant and welcoming. She notified the staff that I had arrived and they came out immediately and took my dog into the back. what came next we never expected. after very thorough testing they discovered he had lung cancer and it had metastasized. we obviously were shocked and heartbroken. The doctor was amazing so thorough in explaining everything from the start to finish. Sadly I picked up my dog after being discharged from the animal hospital Angell in Waltham Thursday and all I could smell was cigarette smoke while the ECC technician was going over the discharges. Supervisor was also on their name tag. Very unprofessional as I could smell it on my animal for the entirety of my drive home. I am writing to review & report issues concerning financial fraud and abuse committed by staff MSPCA Angell West in Waltham MA. On September 23rd, 2024 I brought a beloved cat to MSPCA Angell West for a simple case of vomiting. I had a regular vet who normally came to my house and it was off hours. MSPCA Angell was one of their recommendations. To be succinct, Jordana Fetto killed my cat. There isn't enough space to document my actual experience with them, but if I had not taken my cat to them, she would have lived on. They harmed her, and on multiple occasions representatives from MSPCA Angell misrepresented the chances of recovery by following their recommendations as well as defied my repeated requests to stop testing and other measures deemed unnecessary, cruel and harmful to my pet after it became clear she was not going to survive. They furthermore prevented me from having my pet euthanized to stop her suffering. I was charged in excess of 8000$ and all the billing statements provided to me are erroneous. I specifically complained about a 700$ test that was performed on a dying animal that could not move, had no reflexes, was not blinking and was hours away from death. I also complained about being billed for a force feeding timestamped AFTER my cat died and after I asked for them to remove the tube, the prior day, which was cruelly stitched to her face. I complained multiple times to the billing department at MSPCA Angell who essentially refused to speak with me for 6 weeks, were rude and unhelpful, who finally told me to complain directly to the very vet, who killed my cat. Furthermore, after their refusal to adjust the bill, they repeatedly sent me emails and other correspondence related to their business, solicitation, after I demanded that they stop. To THIS DAY, they REFUSE TO STOP CONTACTING ME. MSPCA Angell West should be shut down. read more

Worst experience with a veterinary office in 50+ years of pet ownership. We were referred there by our normal vet for a potential surgical issue (bleeding polyp) and after light sedation and an abdominal ultrasound we were sent home with B12 supplements and a quote for two surgeries (totaling over $10K) but still no diagnosis or explanation of what they believed the issue to be/how they planned to repair it. Additionally, the vet that worked with us had a very low command of the English language and was extraordinarily hard to understand. We opted not to continue working with Angell and went back to our regular vet who said there was no evidence in the labs that our dog needed to be on B12. And now armed with the ultrasound results was able to clip the polyp in office and without sedation. The polyp was benign and our dog is completely healthy! The attempt by Angell to put our dog through two unnecessary surgeries was beyond outrageous. Would 200% not recommend! read more

Our Goldendoodle has suffered from allergies most of her life. It started slowly, mostly with gastro issues, and then branched out into environmental issues over the years. She was a frequent flier to the vet and had to get monthly allergy injections to keep her comfortable. After being on a prescription hydrolyzed protein food for a while, she was having a hard time. Our vet suggested we see a Dermatologist. Enter Dr. Painter. I should have played the lottery the day we went to see her because it was for sure a lucky day. We met over the phone due to Covid. Never having met face-to-face, she listened to all the ups and downs for our dog. She never made me feel like a burden or bother - she was engaged and genuinely interested. Post our chat and our dog's in-person visit - Dr. Painter easily laid out a plan for her. She had seen other dogs like ours and recommended a new food and additional interventions. Our dog was in excellent hands. As if we needed additional proof, most recently, our dog ended up in the ER with her most severe allergic reaction ever. Unfortunately, the ER doctor was a generalist and couldn't pinpoint the issue. So, I emailed Dr. Painter photos of the breakout without a second thought. Within a few minutes, she responded with a diagnosis and intervention. Our dog was made comfortable and in stable condition. We followed up with Dr. Painter and now understand the issue and a long-term care plan for our dog. We are glad Dr. Painter came back to the East Coast and that she can be a part of our dog's care. She and her team always show genuine care for both pets and humans. We can't recommend her enough for anyone looking for a knowledgeable, engaged, and superly awesome human being who also happens to be an excellent dermatologist. I will be continuing to contest the outrages bill. We will not only not be back but I HIGHLY advise to go to tufts or ANY other establishment if possible. Spent 8 hours here only to be recommended to get a surgery our dog didnt need. They wanted to keep him overnight and they were not very nice to us either. We ended up not taking their recommendation and going elsewhere to veterinary emergency hospital and it was night and day. We were in and out of there and received direct personal care from people who actually cared and didn't want to just take our money and provide unnecessary surgery. I TRULY FEEL LIKE ANGELL IS TREATING THIS AS A BUSINESS AND NOT A HOSPITAL. They recommended something that was not necessary. They took xrays fully knowing the socks our dog ingested were in the stomach and only needed to induce vomiting but instead they wanted to perform surgery and put our dog under anesthesia. Sure maybe that vet thought it was the best option but any logical person would first try to induce vomiting as the most minimally invasive first line option. Probably the sketchiest vet clinic I've been to: When I called in, I was informed that they had an exotic specialist working that could look at my turtle. So, I brought her over because I had concerns about her lethargic behavior. Got charged right up front (which I found peculiar, but whatever). She's taken into the back where a Dr. comes out. He's not an exotic specialist. I'm told it'll cost another $60 dollars for the consult with the specialist. Since I had concerns about my turtle, I decided to go with it. What I didn't know, is that I wouldn't meet this exotic vet consultant. EDIT: I noted the name of the exotic vet in my invoice and was able to look her up, so no more mystery there. None the less, not satisfied that this was behind the scenes. Between that and almost waiting an hour to get x-rays for her, and actually get her back to me (which took I believe 20 plus minutes from the moment I was told they'd bring her out), I had my doubts about the functionality of this clinic. When I finally got her back, she was freezing cold. I'm assuming they just left her on some metal table for the almost 3 hours that she was away from me (sans the x-ray they took of her). The icing on the cake is that the charges on my invoice were not accurate at all. That and how disorganized they are. Consulting with exotic pet specialist - Told $60 / Actual $79 Medication: Told $30-40 / Actual $64 All I can say is that this place lacks integrity, is clearly disorganized, and has minimal effort in the Dr to client relationships. I understand that the world is in a difficult place right now, but we depend on you to help our companions (who are in turn helping us through the toughness of it all). I can't say I feel safe putting my companion back in your hands again, especially when I no longer trust what you guys checked for profit vs what you checked out of compassion for the animal. read more

This review is for the Pharmacy, not the ER doctors: After our dog's diagnosis, she was put on 3 medications. It has proven incredibly hard every time we need a refill. And that sentence is an understatement. I've started putting refills in 2 weeks prior to me needing them, and I'm investigating the Chewy pharmacy instead. Another challenging aspect is making any follow-up appointments, but I've figured out falling into their abyss of voicemails that it's best just to go to your own vet for follow-up care and appointments. read more

My cat was seen by some kind of Junior Vet who had to verify her every step. I never actually got to speak with the real Vet. She seemed to be more interested in raking up the charges by having her stay overnight to monitor her to the tune of $2300.00. No thank you, I can monitor my own cat. She also failed to give me a Discharge Summary nor a copy of her bloodwork, which se said I would receive. I called when I got home, and they said they had to OK it with the doctor and then would email me her records. Fine. I waited all night---no email. NOT GOOD. I called the following morning, and they claimed that they sent it "but somehow it didn't go through". Yeah, right. I asked again for both the DS and bloodwork. She did sent the DS, but said that because the bloodwork was sent to my regular vet, that she couldn't see it to me. What a crock of BS. We had went to this ER because Tufts in Walpole was at FULL capacity, & our own vet Dewitt in Plainville, MA was full as well. They (Tufts VETS) had mentioned nearby 24 hour vets, but I thought bc the cardiologist my dog was seeing, (and we did like her, however she is not there in full capacity anymore) had the ULTRASOUND RECORDS for many years now @ this hospital, that if it was our dog's heart, they could compare. I called the number for Waltham, MA but I was met with a girl filling in for calls from both Angell West & the one in Jamaica Plain. She told me to bring the dog to Waltham, if that is the one I chose, she would call ahead for me. She was made aware our dog had mitral valve regurgitation, but when I got to this place, they told me there was no cardiology on that night. Then I was met with a tech outside telling me, "you did not call here", yes I did, but the CALLS were getting forwarded. They never picked up their lines last night TOO when we brought our dog home either. Never got a call back last night. Stayed on the line for 15-20 mins as well. They had our dog for approx. 4 hrs (took us an hour to get there) & no tests were taken in that timeframe. She was stable & I was met with "well we had some real emergencies". I am sorry, but when my dog is acting lethargic and has a HISTORY of MVG then, I am concerned. So they left her in a crate most of the time I was told (bc you can't go in, so who knows that they really do when I can't see it) while they tended to the real serious, but then when the ER dr offered x-rays and blood work, she said that could be another 2 hrs? I have been to tufts numerous times, and when your dog is stable, then they will go the next route of asking if you desire blood work ASAP, and then if nothing transpires, they will look into the x-rays, the ultrasounds (which she claims she did a quick one but I have zero slip showing anything she thought about the dog). Just charged 170, and then had the nerve to say that if we did not want to wait 2 more hours or so, then she had to disclaim that our dog could decline over night. BUT YET, she was NOT urgent enough to have blood or an x-ray done sooner. I asked for a supervisor on the cardio line, and I got the dr that saw her last night wanting to talk. When I ask for a supervisor, I want a supervisor. Still never got a receipt or an rundown. Do not go to this place. We ended up getting her seen with another ER and they did give what all ER's do with a rundown. IMO, this place pulls your money and could care less for your dog. I am a doctor too, and I would NEVER be so nonchalant about a patient. BUSY or not. Shown below in the pictures was what she ACTUALLY was treated for today, and what WAS found, no thanks to Angells last night - but this was from Bay State ER & here we were told by Angells that they needed x-rays and blood for an extended stomach. SHE JUST had ate. She is also overweight. No mention like what I show below of arthritis in her legs etc. Please just go elsewhere. They don't have the time for you it seems. And I still want the paper work from the Angells visit - yet no supervisor will call for that. read more

When I call the second time Melanie the receptionist tries to say the same thing to us meanwhile we have been waiting in the car for two hours and already paid ; my dog is finally in there and supposedly will be seen around "4" in which hopefully her medication doesn't were off and can actually be seen. The Guy vet tech with glasses tall and lanky do not know his name but will get it had absolutely no compassion of the fact that my dog will not be able to be seen if she is being aggressive and she's sick with most likely worms; oh and I watched him drag my dog into the veterinarian office after she tried to do a stand still and then tells me " when the owners leave typically they come with me " like you mean when I turn my head you'll drag her down the hall shake my damn head if she wasn't this sick and needed to be seen today I would have left . The story of Conner: Years ago I brought him to Angel Boston and he received a great care in ER there -many happy years later... 7/7-came to Angel West with my 9years old lab baby with body pain Especially around shoulder and reduced mobility around 4 pm, spent 5 hours( I checked a couple of times on the phone, had been told he is on a low spectrum of emergency ), diagnosed with pulled shoulder muscle and discharged at 10:00 pm after receiving a muscle relaxant and ibuprofen 7/8-doctor called to let me know ALL the bloodwork was looking great . Reception, great! Everything else, poor! We brought our 8 yr old cat in last night with a leg issue, possibly a blood clot? The cat had been missing for 2 days a neighbor found him laying down in pain. We took him right in, blood work and and a visual exam showed nothing. The Vet suggested a very expensive echocardiogram thinking it was a blood clot. No other symptoms of a blood clot were present however. My son wanted an X-ray of the cats leg. They said an exam of his leg showed no sign of any broken bones. They explained the blood clot protocol, medications, 30% survival and recurrence possibilities. They pushed for the echo. My son declined they sent him home with pain meds. Today my son took him to an ER in Woburn, a thorough exam showed a very infected paw with a deep laceration imbedded with maggots. You might wonder how my son didn't see it? When he picked up the cat in the neighbors yard he wrapped him in a blanket and took him directly to Angel, he didn't examine him. Today he was still favoring his leg and no one was examining him at home. The poor cat was moaning in pain when found. He is now going to be an indoor cat whether he likes it or not! MSPCA West has an agenda and it is to run the most expensive tests it can and when you don't agree send you on your way. They used words like heart disease, cancer, euthanasia to pull my son in without ever ruling out the basic injuries an outdoor cat, missing for days could have. Please don't go there, read the reviews before you need an emergency vet! A cut on this cats paw cost my son $650 last night for blood work and pain medicine and $600 today to clean the wound, X-rays and antibiotics. There is no recourse for what happened last night, the cat got sicker, MSPCA made more money and we are just thankful my son knew something seemed wrong when a basic X-ray was refused. read more

My dog recently had a scare where we found a brick of rat poison in her mouth after a walk at night. We called the ASPCA hotline, were advised to try peroxide to induce vomiting, and then it didn't work. So off to Angell we went! I was so thankful for the staff there. We were seen right away. We gave them our case number from the ASPCA hotline, and they communicated with poison control to figure out what to do. They induced vomiting and couldn't find any rat poison, and we were given a bottle of Vitamin K to use as a precaution. What a relief! It was not a cheap cost (vet care never is). They were so helpful and explained everything they were going to do upfront. They also communicated with my vet on my behalf. read more

Staff were empathetic and understanding. I brought my cat in, who was obviously in critical condition. The last vet didn't say anything when bloodwork came back, but we didn't believe it. We ended up finding she had a tumor and liver wasn't looking good. read more

Have had the misfortune of needing to take our dog in a couple times in recent years, but both times we received compassionate, competent care. So glad to have an Angell location closer than JP. ER care generally means a wait, but our wait times were minimal. Would recommend for ER care! read more

I have been trying to get a prescription refill from a Vet who, after 3 requests form the pharmacy, never replied. I called yesterday at 3 PM to a busy line and requested a call back through their automated system. I called again at 4 PM and did the same. It's now 24 hours and I have not received a call back. If it were their dog in discomfort, or if I said there was pizza in the kitchen, they would be on it immediately. A few thoughts: 1) COVID-19 does not create process issues - it uncovers them. 2) For those in the neighborhood of Angell West I strongly suggest you consider using the Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital in Woburn, MA; they are very responsive. 3) Meanwhile, whoever is in charge of running the Angell West facility should be relieved of their responsibilities. read more

If you love your pet please bring them somewhere else! After waiting almost 11 hours in my car finding out they only looked at my cat a few hours before after being there ALL DAY, they told me that he probably has a dental problem and that's what I was saying all along but they ran all these tests $$$%/on him even though it was just a dental problem. These people are nothing but a scam artists + CROOKS! They do not care about your pet! They only care about money!! Please take your pet to a VCA Animal Hospital where you don't have to wait and you have a VERY professional caring staff look after your pet! I think all MSPCA facilities should have their licenses pulled! I was treated rudely and charged outrageously and no service was provided!! I kept calling and calling asking if my cat was being seen yet nobody was giving me a straight answer and then I demanded to see my cat they wouldn't let me in the facility then I demanded to take my cat out of there and go somewhere else they also wouldn't let my cat come out so basically they have him hostage!! I am going to pursue a lawyer on this matter. TRUST ME I'm not done with this yet.
