Dr Sullivan and their team did an amazing job helping my Guinea pig Latte recover from gas and bloat and kept her overnight to make sure that her stomach didn't flip! The check-in process was easy, the appointment was fabulous, and they followed up and answered all of my questions when the cat became sick a few days later. I love angell memorial medical center and have been bringing my cat for almost his entire 11 years of life, and my 2 cats who passed away during that same time unfortunately, but the angell staff was amazing during that experience as well. No complaints and I will continue to go out of my way to come here. What I appreciate most about Angell is the staff there - knowledgable, friendly, helpful - and the ability to call 24 hours a day, as I often am not able to sign off from work and get phone calls like that done until usually 6, 7 or 8pm at night so that's extremely helpful. read more

Yeah angell memorial is all about money. I ran into a problem with my cat. I didn't have the funds to pay for the procedure so they wanted to euthanize my 2 year old cat. He is a beautiful russian blue all gray that is super young. The prior week before his incident of vomiting and getting a blocked urinary track he was running around playful his usual self i didnt see any signs of sicknes at all!!!!! Well next morning comes my cat is vomiting³ everything up. His posture wasn't his normal self all hunched over wasn't passing urine or number 2. So I decided to take him to angell memorial after speaking with a woman who verbally told Me even if you can't pay for the procedure bring the cat in he will be in good hands. Well we get there they calculate how much to unblock the poor kitty's urinary track and ifs an outrageous amount 2000....we were in shock.we tried to apply for their care credit cards but we didn't qualify. Then we filled out paperwork to prove I get ssdi. Which turned out to be another road block. After that the vet gave us a couple options. 1.surrender the cay we fix him and put him up for adoption 2.euthanize We went with option 3 to take him back home for one night and give him the medications and see if he urinates and then he would have to return if no urine was produced. So a woman from mspca took our kitty back to angell memorial she put.up some money so they could drain the cats bladder out. The vet was telling her how sick the cat is and how he is in rough shape and that he may not pull through. I'm sorry but the cat was healthy as can be and very active for.the week prior. If they would have only drained him the night we brought him his condition would have improved for the better so basically its their fault that he is in the condition he's in. They could have taken him back and done the right and moral thing save him! Instead everything was money ect. Made me sick to my stomach. So because of them denying helping the kitty due to insufficient funds he may not live he's only 18 months old. . Our cat had mammary oncologic surgery at Angell Memorial. It was extensive for her size, but went very well, A to Z. We discussed in advance with the surgeon who clearly has a lot of experience. It went very well, fast recovery. Clear instructions in all phases of the surgery and recovery. The staff is efficient an friendly. We highly recommend. read more

This place is the one and only vet to trust in the area. They have the capability to do it all and are 24/7 365 with emergency walk ins. It's run just like a hospital. So often you go to a normal vet, to pay them to refer you to another vet that is actually capable of taking care of your pet. Why? go straight to the source, avoid double paying. My vet, Newton Animal Hospital referred me to Blue Pearl because my 12 month old puppy needed a life saving surgery. They tried to take advantage of the situation and quoted me $6k. I had the dog for 3 days. We went to MSPCA Angel, they quoted me $4k and then gave us money back making the surgery around $3,500. They are genuine, professionals. Sent us text updates the whole time. Restored my faith in the veterinarian practice. read more

My cat passed away from cancer at this location. I was informed by multiple vet hospitals in the area that I could donate my unused chemo meds to Angell. When I arrived, they denied my donation. Someone should inform every vet hospital in the state that they won't accept unused/unopened medications before people travel forever to donate their pets goods. read more

Avoid this ER -- I had to pay for a $1,500 procedure twice because they botched it the first time. As near as I can tell, their racket looks something like this: 1) Charge above market prices, by a lot 2) But have substantially all the care done by ~1st year vet interns 3) And when that leads to failed procedures, put the customer on the hook and make them pay twice -- Here's our story: We bring cat in for urinary obstruction (a deadly/extremely dangerous condition, despite benign sounding name). They discharge him after procedure to remove it. But after a few hours at home, it becomes clear the cat still isn't urinating, so we take him back to the ER. In round #2, the staff keeps matter-of-factly talking about a "re-obstruction" -- telling us that unfortunately sometimes you get another block right after the first and we're just going to have to be on the hook for another procedure. The next day, after the procedure is completed again and we're getting discharged, we ask more targeted questions and finally get the answer that we suspected: this isn't a case of a "re-obstruction" -- instead, the first obstruction was never removed. The entire time, the staff was telling us that it was a re-obstruction in bad faith, and otherwise using a bunch of language that, in retrospect, was deliberately designed to obfuscate that the first procedure had failed. Despite all that, they still charge us twice for both procedures in their entirety. Something like $3,000-4,000 -- No "sorry we messed this up the first time" or any of that. 0/10 -- bad medical care that caused a lot of suffering for our pet, bad faith/gaslighting staff who are just concerned with covering their own ass, awful bedside manner/customer care, especially the night staff read more

I am a big fan of Angell Memorial!! We were referred here when my kitten's condition was outside our regular vet's capabilities. They got us right in and made us feel cared for. Our kitten had to spend the night but she was not just locked in a cage, the doctor spent time with her and the staff all took time to hold her, give her love on our behalf and really made her happy. Dr Michaels was excellent and gave us all the details we needed and showed a lot of concern for our care. Dr Michaels has followed up with us several times throughout our treatment process to check in and see how things were going. She was very helpful coordinating and resolving difficulties for us. Cons: The pharmacy can be less than cooperative but the pharmacist is helpful if you are having trouble with the staff. The wait times can be a bit long at times. The staff does make an obvious effort, it just seems like it's a popular place. Pros: They really care Very thorough and dependable They take care of the whole family not just the pet. read more

My adorable perfect little 2 month old puppy was attacked by another dog 2 weeks ago. Her ear was badly ripped towards the top (about 2") and about 1/2" towards the bottom. She was GUSHING blood. It was 8pm so my regular vet was closed so I had to bring her here to get stitches. I made the owner of the dog who attacked her come with me so he could provide them with his co tact information and a credit card as he had agreed to pay for it all (as he should have because he allowed his large dog to attack my puppy while they were both leashed). We arrived there around 8:15 and a nurse took her immediately so I assumed she was being seen by a doctor. I was placed in a waiting room and she was brought back to me about 30 minutes later with a cone on but no bandaging or anything to keep her from bleeding. The nurse told me two other animals came in earlier in bad shape so I'd have to wait with her for a while. This is a pretty big facility so I would have assumed they would have the ability to see more than 2 patients at a time. I sat with her in this room until at least 11:30pm. She was bleeding a lot the entire time. Finally, I got a phone call from a doctor asking me questions and he said he would come get her but let me know he probably wouldn't give her stitches for several more hours so I should go home and get her in the morning. I got a call at 4:30am saying she was ready to be picked up. I live pretty close by so I told them I'd be there in 10 mins. I got there by 4:45am and literally had to wait another hour just to get her back. At this point I was frustrated but I recognized that I didn't know everything happening on the back end and wouldn't have written a review if it weren't for the horrible quality of the work they did. I couldn't really see the stitches because her normally perky ear was flopped over. I had been instructed to check the stitches every day for signs of infection. When I inspected the next day I was absolutely stunned to see what a horrible job they did! Both tears were clean tears and by that I mean there wasn't any chunks of ear missing and she was put under heavy sedation so it should have been easy for them to align both tears and stitch them up so that they would eventually heal with a small scar but her ear would otherwise look normal. It seriously looked like they put zero effort into aligning the top tear and didn't even stitch the bottom tear! After 2 weeks of healing, I took her cone off per their direction. Her ear now has a chunk sticking out at the top and the two sections aren't parallel so the big tear looks horrible. The smaller tear is healing separated so that obviously looks bad too. I certainly wasn't expecting perfection here but I don't think they could have done a worse job if they tried. I have very basic sewing skills and am confident that I could have done a much better job aligning her ear and sewing it up had they sedated her and given me supplies. I called this week to verify that her bill had been paid and was told that they didn't have his card. I asked them to contact him to get it and they said they'd ask someone at the billing department but said they couldn't make any guarantees. I called animal control to verify the attack had been reported (as I was told it would be) in case the guy didn't pay and I needed to take him to small claims court. It had not been reported so I had to provide all the info and was told to call back to get a report in a week or two. read more

We were brought right back into our appointment on time....I'm so impressed with the efficiency throughout the check in and check out process, as well. Dear Matt, In response to your E-mail, I have reached out to you several times with no response. I want to share my experience at Angell memorial medical center on August 20, 2022. I feel your decision was swift, and it is inaccurate. You never collected my side of the event before making your decision. On August 20, 2022, I arrived at the emergency department at Angell Medical center; on arrival, I explained to the front desk reception that my dog Rocco had an intense cough and sneezing for the past three days. During those three days, it has been getting progressively worse. I also made clear that his ears were inflamed, and he could have had a recurring ear infection as he had them in the past. The receptionist informed me there would be a two-hour wait and took payment of 189$. After the two-hour wait, I was met by Dr. Hoover. Dr. Hoover came into the room with half PPE on. I explained to Hoover that Rocco had been coughing for three days, progressively worsening. I also explained to her that his ears were very inflamed, and he had a cough for three days that was getting progressively worse; as we were speaking, Rocco started to cough. Hoover stated that Rocco just had a Kennel cough and should be better in a few days. I informed Hoover that Rocco had not exhibited any signs of getting better. He's getting worse; she then said he would be better in a few days and if he gets lethargic or does not eat or drink, then take him back to the ED. She also informed me that she would not be checking his ears as they do not perform this in the ED and to take him to his PCP. I asked Hoover if Rocco could be put on an antibiotic, and she said no, he doesn't need one. I then took Rocco to Petsmart, and I was met by the dog trainer who heard Rocco coughing; she asked me why Rocco was coughing. I told her he had kennel cough and just had him at the vet; she asked me if he was on an antibiotic. I told her no. The vet stated he did not need one; she then said to me that kennel cough is highly contagious and was surprised the vet did not put him on an antibiotic. She then told me to return and get him on an antibiotic; she stated that he would no longer be contagious once he was on an antibiotic. I went back to Angell ED. I then requested to speak with Hoover's supervisor. Her supervisor met me. I clarified the situation to her and informed her that Rocco was getting worse, not better, and he needed an antibiotic. I also explained that his ears were inflamed, and Hoover refused to treat them. The supervisor then said they only treat critical cases and ask their doctors not to treat minor issues because they are understaffed. I felt this was not right. I explained to her that I paid 189$ to have my dog treated. She then examined Rocco and his ears. She stated they were very inflamed and prescribed medication for his ears. She then says she stands by Hoover and will not prescribe an antibiotic. After that statement, I demanded that she put Rocco on an antibiotic. She stated that I was going against her medical advice, and I said OK, I want him on an antibiotic. she prescribed Doxycycline. After treating Rocco with the antibiotic within 24 hours, he improved. I feel that these two Doctors made the wrong call by advising me to wait until Rocco became lethargic or not eating or drinking, then take him back, and then they will put him on an antic biotic. I wanted my dog treated, and these two doctors just neglected him. These two doctors wanted me to wait until he became severally ill then they would treat him; this is outrageous to me. Rocco improved within 24 hours with the antibiotic. I have gone to Angell medical center for years and never have encountered anything like this. It was very improper and unethical. I sought care for my dog elsewhere and will never return to Angell Medical Center. Before you decide this, you need to get the facts on both sides, not just the Doctor. The medical services received here for my dog have always been good and accessible 24/7, so that is why I went back. However, every other aspect of the organization is a complete disaster. I've been over-billed many times. They have a habit of collecting the emergency fee upon check-in but do not always credit the initial charge in the final bill. When I asked about this on a subsequent visit they claimed the first charge would be reversed. No, it wasn't. They double charged me yet again. My last trip there the old dog was doing really bad and had to be euthanized. So after she was seen in the ER they put me in a exam room and I filled out the paperwork for the euthanasia. Then I waited, and waited, 40 minutes passed waiting for my dog to come from the ER so I went looking for someone and when the nurse arrived she claimed she missed the page--at which point it became painfully obvious my dog had been left waiting and dying in pain for 40 min. for no reason other than sheer neglect. Back to reception again, they had lost the the paperwork for euthanasia, which that person had apparently left since I had been there 3 hours by now. So more delays and confusion. Then I finally pay my bill and leave with my dog in a box. A month later they sent me a bill for $144. I called and they just presumed the charges were legit, despite being added to my bill 2 days after the dog died. They said someone would call me back with an explanation. No call back. I get another bill, I call again, and same we-know-nothing routine but they're insisting I pay this post mortem fee. I finally just paid this bill online in disgust so I wouldn't have to talk to them again. read more

I took my 7 month old bearded dragon here in 2021 because he was barely able to walk. The first visit, they prescribed him 10 days worth of injections for an infection and gave me instructions on how to administer them. I went back several weeks later saying that I thought he had gout, which tests confirmed. The exotic vet called me to explain, and said "we can make him as comfortable as possible for as long as possible." I was saddened and furious that the vet seemed to give up on treatment entirely. Here we are two years later and I have a healthy, walking, running, eating, happy beardie. I'll always be stunned at how quick the vet was to write Rex off, and I'm so glad I listened to my animal and continued to fight for him. If that doctor is still practicing, I hope he reads this and finds a reason not to so easily write off animals in the future. read more

I adopted a cat from MSPCA and am very impressed by the service received. Questions asked for adoption were reasonable, and the process took no longer than a week from first inquiry to adoption. I initially wanted to adopt one cat but found out she was adopted later. Thankfully the staff made effort to match me with another cat available for adoption. They are professional and are willing to work with you - questions for adopting are reasonable and not excessive. I brought my 9 year mini poodle to the ER. They kept her for a few days. I picked her up with a few prescriptions. However she was not getting better. I brought her back to the Angel. I was given more meds. She is still ill presenting with symptoms like (gee-YAH-buh-RAY). I have not got any calls from Angel regarding my baby. Yes! I called them with my financial as well as medical concerns. I said I am a senior and can't afford to pay for a guessing thing. I have already racked up about 3 grand and my doggie is still very ill. If I took my car to the mechanic & paid $3,000. I would be calling the BBB. They could have a least followed up with me. read more

Honestly I was very unhappy with the service we received. While I understand this is an emergency clinic, and there were situations more dire than mine, 8 hours for an X-ray I consider to be terrible service. We spent most of that time sitting in the parking lot, communicating by telephone and being told 20 minutes, 20 minutes 20 minutes. The final outcome was no foreign objection in the stomach, but we should bring the animal back the next day so that they could feed him chicken, rice and observe!!! read more

After 25 years of prior experience with Dr. Brum at Angell Memorial, I returned to Boston after 17 years in NY and requested an appt, with Dr. Brum for my 3 dogs -- one of which is 15 yrs. Old and has kideney disease. First they made up a fictious $70 bill -- 18 YRS. OLD THAT THEY NEVER MENTIONED IN ALL THAT TIME, that they said I had to pay if I wanted an appt. A bill for one of my dogs, I got in NY who HAD NEVER BEEN TO ANGELL MEMORIAL OR BOSTON -- ALSO THEY COULD NOT SUBSTANTIATE WITH AN INVOICE OR ANY PROOF OF MEDICAL SERVICE. I have to be frank, my experience has taught me that there are times when a client and a facility are just not a good fit and, in those times, a new start with another hospital is best for all involved. Taking into account how things played out with your visits to Angell back when Hannah was a puppy and then more recently as our staff attempted to collect your historic balance, I believe that to be the case in this instance. Even though I can recognize that much of that history is long behind us, I still do not feel that it is in anyone's best interests for you to pursue ongoing care for your pets at Angell Boston (...or any Angell affiliate). Given that your prior Angell experience resulted in that (albeit small) balance going unpaid and recent interactions regarding that balance have been strained, it does not feel like any ongoing relationship between you and our hospitals is set up very well for success. I can appreciate that our documentation may not paint a complete picture of how those historic events may have unfolded on your end. That said, I do think that it is indisputably evident that your faith and confidence in Angell's ability to meet your needs have been compromised. It's clear from your recent interactions with us that, while your faith in Dr. Brum cannot be questioned, your faith in the rest of our hospital (Emergency service, Accounting staff, etc.) pales in comparison. We at Angell know how important it is, when entrusting us with the care of a beloved pet, that you feel assured that you are putting them in the very best hands. Once that faith has been questioned, it becomes very difficult to repair and future interactions can become strained. With client communication playing such an essential role in patient care, we do not feel comfortable with the prospect of our trying to provide care to a client where effective communication is not ensured. Simply put, I do not feel that - given the history here - we would be able to have a successful client relationship with you. As such, I am writing today to ask that you refrain from booking future appointments with any Angell facility. We hope that you will see this step as one that is taken with everyone's best interests in mind. I think we can all agree that making sure that Hannah's needs are met is our main goal. I am hopeful and confident that one of the other options for pet care in the area will be able to meet all of your veterinary needs. I have heard wonderful things about Angell but sadly our experiences with emergency services have not been good. Our vet is in VT but we also have a home in Boston. A number of years ago our pug was misdiagnosed at Angell and treated for a back injury. The problems continued. When we got him to our vet in VT we learned his back was fine. He had a seizure disorder. Once on the correct meds he was fine for years after that. And just recently our rescue dachshund was diagnosed at Angell with a back problem, blood was drawn and he was put on medication. Again the problem did not seem to be resolving and our regular vet diagnosed a neck strain almost instantly. New meds. Problem solved. I would pay anything for my dogs health care but do not appreciate paying over $600 for the misdiagnosis of a common problem. read more

If I could give a zero star I would. The staff are rude and don't care about animals whatsoever. My cat was in pain for 3 hours and they didn't see her at all and after I asked they said it would be an additional 5 hours. All she needed was antibiotics, this would've been taken care of at a regular vet clinic within the hour but unfortunately it was closed which is why I came to this place. Would've been better to just wait until the other clinic opened. Incredibly disappointing, my heart hurts for my baby cat UPDATE: So I wrote that post about 3 hours into my wait, and then I took it down because I thought you know what, they're busy, I'm being emotional, I'll be reasonable. However, I'm writing this after I got home from my visit. It is now past 10pm, I got to the hospital a bit after 2pm. I was there for 8 hours. And the only reason I was there for that long was because 1) it was a Sunday and the regular clinics were closed and 2) they charge you $225 to check you in, BEFORE even seeing anyone. So I thought, you know what, I'll wait it out, maybe they'll be ready soon. My cat had a UTI, and I don't know if you've experienced a UTI before because I have several times and it is very painful. Like I would sit on the toilet for an hour crying kind of painful. Now imagine my cat sitting in the crate, no access to a toilet, having already pissed in the crate because the UTI makes you unable to hold it in, and sitting there for EIGHT HOURS. The staff were incredibly rude when I asked how long it would take, like they were annoyed that I wanted someone to look at her. And I only asked them how much longer every 2 hours or so, which I think is more than reasonable. So not only was she in incredible pain for a whole day, uncomfortable in a crate, she also didn't have any access to food or water this whole time, and they didn't care. When I was finally brought in to the exam room, the vet was nice enough, but also didn't want to give her the antibiotics that she needed and wanted to take a urine sample by inserting a syringe into her bladder, which I thought was insane. This was AFTER they took her back and covered her entire front in alcohol to the point where she was wet, and they said they tried to take blood from her jugular but failed and ended up taking it from her leg. As I'm writing this, my cat has been in the litter box straining for about 40 minutes now, when this could have been solved EIGHT HOURS AGO if they had given her antibiotics. I had to bring my very sick kitty in on Friday morning to the ER. Everyone that I interacted with was just wonderful. They were timely, especially seeing that they were very busy. Yes, it's expensive, but Veterinary care usually is. Show me a cheap Vet and I'll show you a place that my fur babies will never visit. I had to back today to get meds for my kitty and once again, they were wonderful! I even got to witness a 'Karen' complaining about everything and they handled her very well and professionally. Do not go here! If you need vaccines or tests go to Vetco. Their prices are a fraction of what Angell will charge you for the same vaccines and tests. For example, a felv/fiv test is $75 at Angell and just $15 at Vetco. A rabies vaccine is $32 at Angell and only $10 at Vetco. Plus, Vetco doesn't charge an exam fee or "waste fee". Angell charges you $85 per pet before doing anything. This is my second time at Angell and both times they spent more time billing me or upselling me vs. talking to me bout my pet's health. For the $85 exam fee, they didn't even bother to tell me how much my cat weighs or if her teeth are fine. I ended up paying $400 for two cats, unnecessary vaccines and a sedative my cat did not need at all. Angell is about turning a profit, upselling unnecessary services, and overcharging! They could not perform a test on my 10lb. kitty bc she was "too feisty" (my cat is a small baby and I can easily restrain her) so they charged us for a sedative and told us to give her the sedative and come back another time so they can charge us another $85 for an exam fee for doing little to nothing. read more

I am grateful for the speedy yet attentive care my cat received at Angell Memorial. Saturday morning Luna had a heart attack and threw a clot. She was rendered paralyzed and had to be put down. I've had her almost 10 and a half years and was extremely distressed. I am also thankful for the doctor, forgive me for not remembering her name it was an insane day, she was kind, delicate, and honest. When it was time she escorted us to a room to say our goodbyes. It felt like we were walking down a really long hall but when exiting I realized the walk wasn't as long as I initially thought. Odd how the brain processes when stressed. Luna was brought in wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket and she meowed in protest as soon as she saw me to demand we go home because she hates being carried. We said our goodbyes and a mold of her paw print was made a plaster thingy. Angell Memorial took great care of my dog when he needed it and now my cat when it was time to put her down.
