When I finally made it to the city I found myself at Pho Viet, what I think used to be Viet D'lish, the really tacky shop with the pictures and fluro paper signs everywhere. Pho Viet's exterior is modern, clean and minimalistic, maybe even a little too bare? I originally wanted Banh Mi but as the name of the shop is pho I thought I better give their main dish a try, I also got a Vietnamese Iced coffee. The food and drink were pretty swell, the pho was tasty and had just the right amount of noodles to beef/beef ball ratio and the iced coffee was delicious as always. Overall a very good and healthy alternative to a lot of the other trash being served in The Myer Centre, I saw that they also had the famous noodle salad and a chicken soup on their menu if you want to have a bit of variety.

I approached the SUPER FRIENDLY people serving at Sing's Vietnamese Chargrill and asked straight out, "Do you have any gf options?" The lovely gentlemen proceeded to list 5 dishes off the menu and I was immediately in-love. I ordered the Massaman Curry with rice and a juice and paid a (comparatively) paltry amount. The bowl I picked up was HUGE. Like, as big as my head huge. It was packed with vegetables and crispy chicken with white fluffy rice. I struggled to get half way through before giving up as it really was wayyyy too much food. I was told the curry was mild but I found I had to get the rice / curry sauce ratio just right or else it had quite a kick. Keep in mind I have a sensitivity, spice-lovers would most likely agree it was mild. There are loads of tables around the food court but I recommend going with a friend so they can nab one while you wait for the food. Seats go VERY quickly in this space. Everything was bright and clean and service was extremely friendly. They also sell some of the cheapest bottles of water I have seen anywhere in Brisbane at $2 a bottle. BARGAIN!

It can get quite busy around lunch time, but the queues move fast. If you're lucky you can get a seat and table in Rowes Arcade, which is far nicer than the Post Office Square food court, but even better is to head up to the Post Office Square park area and enjoy some sunshine on your lunch break.

The Vietnamese coffee was a good addition. Everything like the chopsticks and tissues add self-served, and then you leave all the dinnerware on the table when done. Fairly recently, they introduced a new menu, which should provide an example for any non-vegetarian restaurant on how to cater to vegetarians: a full vegan menu, and care taken with other dishes to note where and when problem ingredients like fish sauce might appear, and offering viable substitutes. The dishes I've tried have been craveably good, exemplifying the freshness and balance of flavors one expects from Vietnamese cuisine. The drinks, likewise, are the sort of thing that encourages one to spend too much money, notably a delicious lemonade soda and an array of smoothies. And I haven't even tried their pho. There are drawbacks, enough for me not to rate them five stars yet. It has been quite crowded when I've visited, which is not a bad sign and which they handle reasonably well, but which nonetheless can lead to some delays. I'm not wild about the location; it's a bit farther in the suburbs than I'd like to go and not close to either the busway or the trains, though the best places often are farther out. And despite their extensive new vegan lunch menu, they don't seem to offer it for breakfast, which disincentivizes me from coming early.

I have allergies to crustaceans. It shouldn't have been in my dish but clearly it was. My best guess is they aren't clean in the kitchen, nor do they follow the food safety and hygiene guides and contamination happens through use of the same utensils. Maybe no washing of hands between handling seafood and chicken?? Or using the same pans and/or bowls with cross contamination, and/or not cleaning in between??. I'm not overly sensitive and therefore dine at many Vietnamese and other Asian restaurants. This has never happened to me as I always read the ingredients contained in the dish. So my advice- avoid the place if you have severe allergies (photo is of my eyes completely open), and regardless- others should take note that things might not be as great behind the scenes at this place, even though you can see through to the kitchen! Located in West End, Siam Samrarn shares a complex with a Coles, Gloria Jeans and other decent run of the mill chain stores. Now I know what you're thinking, 'how can this be a great restaurant if it doesn't have it's own building'. Let me reassure you though, Siam Samrarn is a diamond in the rough. The first time I went to Siam Samrarn was with my sister and mother one Thursday evening. All three of us were astounded by the quality of the Thai food as we anticipated something mediocre at best. What we discovered however was the chefs at Siam Samrarn know things that other Thai chefs need to find out because the food was absolutely sensational! In addition, the service staff was extremely hospitable, ensuring that our glasses were always filled as we discussed at length the culinary triumphs that were laid out before us - before inevitably moving on to a drunken analysis of the family, the world and the location of the bathroom. I was so impressed by Siam Samrarn that I decided to have my 21st birthday there. Once again the staff at Siam Samrarn went up and beyond what any of us anticipated. They were able to accommodate 30-40 wine guzzling university drama students, which I imagine is no easy feat. They were even kind enough to let us chat in their restaurant till well past 11, cleaning everything and anything around us before inevitably asking us to move on. I think it has become perfectly clear that I really do consider this restaurant one of Brisbane's best. Siam Samrarn is not only excellent value for money, but also an exciting adventure for any foodie. Ultimately, hospitality for me comes down to the quality of the staff and the employees at Siam Samrarn are gentle, receptive, caring and courteous. Check it out. P.s. take advantage of the BYO and the BWS in the centre. P.p.s. check out the site for the funny music.
