The corn tortillas I picked up at Heinen's and West Side Market didn't compare. The Kitchen Sink cookies are as good raw as they are cooked. They Korean-style savory pancakes are amazing. I can order a jumbo fancy salad that serves 3 for about $10 if I want to add some extra veggies to my meal. I have never, ever had any issues with delivery. The items show up on schedule and in great condition. They have very knowledgeable customer service reps available every night during dinner hours in case you have any questions or need help with the meals. All companies should be run this well. The only let down was the western omelette combo...it came with two weirdly tiny omelettes and a small scoop of potatoes and was $21. Meanwhile my giant quesadilla was only $13 - a deal! Our server said she was new and didn't know much about the omelette combo so I am wondering if it was not the right thing. However, the last few visits they have been very unfriendly and behaved as if my shopping there was a burden. Well, guess what? I won't be burdening them with my business again. If service is not an issue for you, the store carries a number of harder to find health food items but the prices are quite high for some of them. You can find many of the same products at Krieger's, Whole Foods or Trader Joe's for less. Often items on the shelf are out of date. They sell a good selection of bulk spices and staple items. The produce is from local farms and they have some nice selections depending on time of year.

There's something special about a place that can remain part of your life for that long. On this visit I went with the chili (which is a must with cheese and crackers), pickle fries and regular fries, and everything hit the spot. The chili was hearty and satisfying, the pickle fries were a great addition, and you simply can't beat the value. You can still come to Ray's, get plenty of good food, and leave feeling like you got your money's worth. Ray's has been a Kent institution for a reason. It's comfortable, familiar, affordable and filled with a lot of memories for me. After 50 years of visits, I'm still happy to walk through the door -- and I'm sure I'll be back again.
