After spending several hours learning about the southern part of The Glebe with my friend after getting a similar tour four years earlier (yeah, I'm on Olympic time, folks), I felt like a cold drink. I remembered that Mr Puffs has iced teas that I like, so I walked over to this store. It was busy. There was an entire family ordering what looked like three packs of 30 puffs and a bunch of ice cream dishes. Naturally, I knew that my thirst would not be quenched quickly. I am patient. Perhaps too patient for my own good. I stood there waiting for someone to take my order for five minutes. There were two male staffers handling both the puffs and drinks. They were definitely short on staff for the demand. One of them was nice and came over to take my order. I got an iced peach black tea. I like that it's only one size and that it has a hint of sugar. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and my transaction was done. I then waited for my drink. The wait was at least ten minutes. Frankly, I lost track. The family ordering puffs galore did cause a backlog of orders. I was thrilled when I finally got my drink. I thanked the man and happily left the store. I slowly made my way to Whole Foods while sipping my drink. It hit the spot. It was such a hot day that a cold beverage made things cooler. It tasted consistent when comparing it to the previous drinks that I had at the Dixie location. It's my favourite iced tea drink out of the lot. I was in the area last night, but Mr Puffs was closed by the time I left to head back to the hotel. Maybe it was a good omen to not down a box of puffs so late at night. So I was super excited when I found out that a Shuyi Tealicious opened up in Ottawa! I got the same drink ($6.95 for a large) and it was just as awesome as I remembered! So this drink is pretty much a dessert. They give you a spoon in addition to a straw, so that should give you an idea of how hearty this drink is, lol. If you don't like solids in your drinks, do not get this, but if you love an abundance of toppings in your bubble tea like I do, there's a good chance you will love this. The milk tea itself is very good. It's rich, creamy and has a good tea flavour to it. However, it's the toppings that are the main attraction. You get grass jelly (also known as Mesona jelly or herbal jelly), tapioca pearls, coconut jelly cubes, red beans and golden raisins. So yummy! The only thing I didn't like was you can't customize the amount of sugar or ice in this drink. I usually get reduced sugar or no sugar and that wasn't an option for this drink. Nonetheless, even at full strength sugar, I still liked the drink, although I did find it a bit too sweet for me. I also recently got their new dessert: the strawberry brulee ($3.95). It's super tiny, but rich and delicious. It's creme brulee topped with crushed peanuts, toasted coconut, raisins and freeze-dried strawberries. I've also had their Taro Balls Grass Jelly Milk Tea. This one only comes in the regular size for $6.25. It's similar to the Signature Grass Jelly Milk Tea, except it has taro balls and oats instead of tapioca pearls and raisins. The other ingredients are the same. The sugar level of this drink is also fixed. The advantage of this drink is that the taro balls don't get rock hard overnight in the fridge the way tapioca pearls do, so you can drink some the next day if you don't finish it. Service is courteous and efficient. The place is fairly small. There are 2 tiny tables which seat 2 people each, but it feels pretty crowded in there, so not a good place to hangout in my opinion. Better for takeout. It's in the Byward Market so street parking if you can find it or paid parking lot parking only.

My husband and I went during the Phase 2 re-opening amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic, but I don't think they had to change their practices much because they were always takeout only with no place to sit and eat. There was absolutely no line up when we went on a Sunday afternoon in June. My husband is a traditionalist so he got a medium chocolate vanilla swirl in a waffle cone. It was $3.25 for a medium and an additional $0.75 for the waffle cone. I wanted to try their flavour burst which is flavour swirled into the ice cream in unique way (see photos). I got a small vanilla cone with cherry flavour burst. It was $2.25 for the small cone plus an additional $1 for the flavour burst. I enjoyed my cone. The ice cream was creamy and the flavour burst added a nice black cherry flavour to the cone. It wasn't too overwhelmingly sweet which was nice. I really want to try the Pina Colada flavour burst next time. Note that they only have soft serve ice cream. No hard/scoop ice cream. They do have milkshakes, slushies, slushie floats, sundaes, and Razzles, which are like Dairy Queen Blizzards or Mc Donald's McFlurries. Service was quick and courteous. I'm a huge fan. It's a bit of a trek to get to Kanata for me, but I would come back if I was in the area or planning to so other things in the area. Also I think the dessert would be more photogenic if they added some rainbow jellies or other coloured popping boba as garnish on top. The toppings are exactly those that are usually found in bubble teas, so the jellies are made of Coco de Nata and the popping boba gelatin is made of seaweed, so totally vegan. Staff were courteous.
