The best time to visit is at Christmas, as their christmas displays are great, with polar bear scenes, a lovely area with lit-up houses, etc. It's great for young and old to see. When I went recently, they also had a couple of small tables with simple toys on for the children to play with, which I thought was an excellent touch. The cafe is nice enough for a garden centre, although it gets busy and the queues can get very long.

From cleaning products, kitchen items, DIY bits and bobs, cheap snacks, cards and so much more - they've got it covered. If you're a keen shopper/browser it's a veritable treasure chest to explore. My particular favourite is the upstairs section. Here's where the items get slightly less bargainous and become a little higher end... They've beds, lamps and all other kinds of home furnishings in a range of styles. Faux-antique right through to the more modern sleek look. I bought an awesome 'telephone box' lamp for my room at home, which is so kitsch and delightful and only set me back £15. (I can imagine it costing a ton more in a vintage shop!) My Mum was particularly overjoyed with a red painted vase that she picked up as well, of which they had many different shades! So, there's plenty to get excited about, and not too pricey as well. However, all that glitters is not gold. I did come away having purchased a few oil reed scent dispensers (the pots of oils with the wooden reeds) and they simply don't work at all. They were only a pound each, but I can see why they were so cheap as they give off no scent at all! Even so, I'm pleased as punch with my lamp so that more than makes up for it!

The only thing I can say lets it down is a lack of electrical goods like TV's but if you're looking for a pack of brass tacks and a birthday card for auntie Mabel this is a good place to start........ and if you're feeling tired you can nip upstairs and pretend you're testing a bed out :)

The first four were student accommodation so we were in definite need of some flora and fauna to disguise the mess and chaos. A stack of empty beer cans looks far more respectable with a cyclamen watching over them with an air of mature authority! The people who run the stall are helpful and knowledgeable, directing me when I have needed indoor or outdoor plants and educating me in the benefits of plant food. On asking for some plants that did not require too much care or attention, I was swiftly guided towards some hardy foliage, with a knowing look. The larger plants in particular are much cheaper than the ones of a similar size in chain stores. There is a fantastic range, which includes fresh herbs, cacti and many other leafy beauties. We got a Christmas tree with a fantastic shape and height this year, for a very reasonable fee. This stall has a gorgeous old cash till which must be an antique, an attractive feature to notice. All in all, a great place to stock up on a lovely bit of vegetation to brighten up your house.

Selling many different types (and I do not claim to be an expert in this field) ranging from very small to medium/large plants, if you are after anything massive, you might want to go elsewhere, or ask the owner if he can get hold of what you're after. Greenery always brightens up any atmoosphere, and The Plant Shop certainly does that. If you need any plant advice, don't hesitate to ask the owner. I really like Ackworth Garden Centre, as it's near my house and is a great place to take my young…read moreson. It sells plants, outdoor furniture, craft supplies, pet supplies and has a reasonable sized outdoor sales area too. I don't often buy much but my son loves running around the aisles outside and hiding from me. There is also a cafe, whcih we nearly always go to. It's nothing special, but it's ok. The garden centre really comes into its own around Christmas time. The decorations and displays are fab, really magical, and the santa's grotto area is always a snowy, magical display. Worth visiting definitely!

Have bought big plants here in the past but the most recent visits have been for tropical fish. They have a good variety on offer and split them up well based on the type of tanks you can have. It will never be a quick visit here as you will always get distracted by the vast array of things on offer. Worth a visit just to see what you end up with :)

You can buy absolutely everything here from garden plants, bushes, sheds, benches to pond supplies. You can buy paving, bbqs and other outdoor living/designing supplies. They also have a good aquatics centre and pet supplies, plus a good selection of pets to own. The best part of pet centre is 'elvis' the parrot - he is lovely. The cafe is huge with a very good choice but it is a bit on the dear price, still you have to treat yourself sometimes and the food is lovely and well worth it. The centre is always well stocked and the staff are very nice and polite.

I'm guessing the first one is plain stupid (well stupid is as stupid does) so I got y sorry looking butt down to Red Brick Mill. What a pleasant find it is too. They pride themselves on some of the North's leading contemporary designers and their furniture is sheer class. They are home to 35 cutting-edge designers and there is enough inspiration to keep even my motor mouth quiet for an hour or so. If you want to jazz up your lounge, no problem. Slick and chic sofas sit along side funky tables. You'll even find plush flooring, cookware and gifts. It's quite pricey but sometimes money does buy taste and it shows here. Add to that four cafes to refresh those flagging shopping legs and it's worth a punt. A definite reason to venture into Batley and spruce up the house in your life.

As well as funitures, clothes and food shop. The restaurant and cafe served hot and cold food. I even joined the membership card where it costs a tenner. You'll get free 2 drinks each month and buy one get on free meals three times a year plus 10% discount. I've already made my money back on money i've saved. Really happy to have found this relaxing place to go to on a sunday.

Gee Jays is a local bargain hot spot. It has 2 floors of various items, from tea towels, to…read morestationery, to power tools. It is worth looking in Gee Jays before buying anything from B&Q or similar places. They have stock clearance items and regular stock as well. The stock varies widely and is regularly updated to accommodate seasonal stock. If you are doing a spot of DIY I imagine you can get everything from here, as they have paint, brushes and cleaning equipment. The main downsides to this shop are: 1) Parking, there are a few spaces on the road outside, but the shop is a 5 min walk out of town; 2) Accessibilty with wheelchair, pram or similar. I find it hard to navigate a pram around, so have to make arrangements to go there on my own.
