After having a very good experience with Chinese pancakes earlier this year, I'm on the look out for restaurants/stalls that makes them. Came across Mr. Pancake on Yelp and drove to P-mall to try it.
The stall was busy which gave us time to study the menu. My boyfriend and I ordered pork floss and seaweed mung bean pancake. I like how you can from 4 different types of pancake mixture - mung bean, purple rice, mixed grain and dragon fruit. We also paid an additional few dollars for the tofu jelly. There are 2 flavours for the tofu jelly, sweet and savoury. I love savoury Shanghainese soy milk, so I decided to order the savoury version.
The pancake is made to order and was delicious! The pancake itself was thin and soft, and had a hint of eggy flavour due to the egg incorporated into the batter. The crispy skin and shredded pork floss gave the pancake a texture contrast. However, I would prefer if they used less hoisin?/brown sauce, but that is just me being picky.
The savoury tofu jelly is basically tofu pudding but in a brown savoury soup with bits of meat and cilantro. I was surprised how hearty it is and the soup had less MSG then I was anticipating.
The lady taking orders was friendly and was patient with my sub-par mandarin. I'm sure you can get by buy ordering in English and point due to the photographic nature of the printed menu. read more
