Your shop might be good at engine swaps, but check-engine light diagnosis is a matter of experience and knowing where to look. You charged us $700 and did not find the problem. Your mechanic was lost, spent a whole morning poking around, fishing but not catching. What is different here is that the check engine light came back on a couple hundred miles up the road. That is a sign that the battery was temporarily disconnected, which recycles the computer and turns off the warning light for a short time. I've been coming here for repairs since 2021, and when I first showed up my van was an absolute mess. But no matter how obscure my problem they got it sorted for a reasonable price - and what they touch stays fixed! They don't upsell you: on my last repair I could have easily been sold a wheel bearing job and an oil pressure spring kit. Mr Mechanic in Ft. Collins did an excellent job helping us during an overlanding trip from Utah. My Propex furnace would not fire up; Mr Mechanic uninstalled it, got it to the Propex dealer and re-installed in less than three hours. Wyatt set up the appointment and was there on the day of the repair, helping out. Charlie did the uninstall/re-install. Mike supervised the procedure and also checked the brakes on my OGT Expedition 2.0 trailer. The heater is working fine. So this is something I can speak to professionally. " lastly and perhaps most telling... NO one touches my whips... like once as a lad I went to a mechanic, other wise hands off.. is my motto.. On a cross country trip from West coast and while in Wyoming my engine blew on my Vanagon... middle of tumbleweed nowhere! The ONLY good luck was I knew of Van Cafe via parts procurement over the years.. Mr Mechanic's business is dovetailed with this outfit. 138 miles later. towed in and dropped off. These gentlemen were fantastic, above all they really went out of their way to accommodate my last minute changes.. I rented a car to get me to Tennessee... Asked if they could replace engine and some other upgrades while in there and possibly have it ready in 12 days time so when I returned I could get back in it as I had several National and State parks I longed to visit... These guys did save my vacation, did come in as quoted, communicated very well and were all around great guys. A call out to Wyatt and Mike, I felt I left having made a couple friends.... Honest employees & quality work - I went in with an pretty unrealistic timeframe and tight budget... and somehow these guys pulled it together for me. They gave me options, broke it down in non-mechanic vocabulary, and treated me respectfully. They offered a vehicle for me to use while mine was being repaired (even though they turned it around SAME DAY!) and let me hang out doing my own work - using their wifi and drinking their coffee. I recently brought my old Toyota in to see why it wasn't turning over. The mechanic got back to me pretty quickly with some unpleasant news: the timing belt broke, and it wrecked the engine and quoted me $1700-$2000 for the full repair. When I immediately told him the car wasn't worth the fix, he changed brought the offer down to $400, with a 20% chance the fix would actually work. I told him no for a good reason. I'm no mechanic, but all it took was a quick internet search to find out that my car contained a non-interference engine, meaning that when the timing belt breaks, it does NOT do any damage to the engine. To me the mechanic I talked to should have known this, as it seems to be pretty common knowledge that most corollas have non-interference engines. Even if they didn't, before even making a quote in the difference of $1300, they could have simply searched to find out what type of engine the car had. Or perhaps they could have actually assessed the engine for damage. I ended up taking the car somewhere else, who are did the job for around $400, with no BS 20% chance of success, and am happy I made that decision. I rarely write reviews, but all things considered in this situation, I feel as if this place was trying to royally rip me off, and I'm not too happy about paying nearly $100 for them to "look" at what was wrong before giving me a quote that was over 4x what another shop is charging me. Also, if they had really "looked" at the engine, which I was charged $100 for, they could have once again, easily seen the engine had not been damaged by the belt. I'd steer clear, and make sure you get other quotes before even considering giving Mr. Mechanic a dime out of your pocket. read more

Mike is the first mechanic I have ever trusted and I recommend him to everyone. When I moved to Colorado, my VW passat broke down. I was told by one mechanic it would be $1800-$2400 to fix. I brought it to Mike at Mr. Mechanic and was quoted $900 and they fixed it for $800 and change. My car sounded better than it had for years. I now live in Boulder and drive up to Fort Collins anytime I need maintenance or repair. He always does the repairs some day for me and his employees are always very knowledgeable and friendly. read more

On two different occasions (clutch/flywheel replacement and electrical repair in the door) it has been top quality customer service, honesty, turnaround, and pricing. Out of town and having car trouble -- never a good thing -- but alas, my granddaughter's best friend's mother dates someone from Mr. Mechanic -- and thus I get a referral. How lucky I was. The service was great. I even had them check out my struts -- a mechanic in California said I needed to have them replaced (I thought the California guy was just trying to sell me something I didn't need) and Mr. Mechanic checked out my struts and said they were fine. They did my other repairs for a great price. I felt they were honest, not only because of the great referral -- The repairs were done promptly. Very pleased. I live in Oregon and was out there helping my son who's going to school in Fort Collins, look for a car. We had one we found but needed it to be checked out by a mechanic.
