Tasty meat, nice workers. What else would you want? Churros, that's what! And they have them so you are in luck.

I agree with the first reviewer of this place, "Hidden gem" indeed. I have to say that I give this…read morerestaurant predominately El Salvadoran food.. a 4 1/2 stars but I will round it off to 5 stars for the fact that I am not well-versed in Central American food although I have had it a few handfuls before. From what I DO know and how my taste buds react, this place is legit. Since this business is barely on the radar much less,Yelp's radar... I thought I would hurry and write a review for this Mom n Pop joint in hopes it would help make this restaurant bloom. My whole family and I were on a bike ride along the BWI trail and I was taking in the scenery and this place caught my eye from the back of it's business... I noticed the small sign and read "Christy's Latin Bakery & Café" ...I yelled at my husband ahead of me to make a stop, betting each other that the place might be closed on Memorial Day... he quickly reminded me that if they're truly Latin then they wouldn't care about closing on an American holiday... I concurred and we rode our bikes around the corner. The bakery section is what catches your eye at first when you walk in with a glass closet full of Latin sweet breads and a glass case in the front adorned with Latin desserts. In between both is a wall of Wedding/Birthday cake examples of the possible popular choices. Since we were in a hurry to get home, we picked out a few sweet breads for our girls, flan, and tres leches for later after dinner. Later that day we decided to go back for dinner and glad we did. We ordered an array of goodies, so much that the lady said in Spanish that it might be too much food for just us. Haha! So we took off one papusa off the order. :) We ordered one bean/cheese papusa, chicken/veggie croquete, carne asada tacos, The bean/cheese papusa was very good but not the best I've had but definitely worth trying. The chicken/veggie croquete was not seasoned very well and hardly memorable. The carne asada tacos were good although the seasoning could've been just a tad bit more aggressive. Overall, I had seen most of the customers were Latino and word just needs to get out for the gringos to come out and try something new for this area. Come out, come out, wherever you are!

They also make fresh fruit smoothies. I got a papaya smoothie which was sweet and refreshing. They make everything fresh to order so it is worth a wait. The place is nice and clean, and they play lively Latino music. I like this place a lot and will be back soon!

Let's start with the beans... finally, real beans! Thick, creamy, flavorful, and not swimming in water like you find at so many other places. It sounds like a small detail, but trust me--it makes all the difference. The crema? Fresh, rich, and delicious. Again, not watery or runny. You can tell they take pride in using quality ingredients instead of cutting corners. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the plantains were sweet and caramelized just right, and every bite tasted homemade. Now... let's talk about the pupusa. I've eaten pupusas all over the DMV and in many different states, so I don't say this lightly... this is one of the best pupusas I've ever had. The masa had the perfect texture, the filling was generous, and the flavor tasted authentic from the very first bite. Here's the funny part... I took a few bites and immediately thought, "Nope... this is way too good to finish here." I asked for a to-go box because I wanted to enjoy the rest for lunch the next day. The gentleman helping us smiled and even brought me an extra bag of curtido without me asking. That small gesture made my day. And yes... that pupusa was just as incredible the next day! The restaurant itself is spotless, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with colorful murals that make you feel like you've taken a little trip to Central America. The staff was warm, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely happy to make sure we enjoyed our meal. If you're anywhere near this area, do yourself a favor and stop by. And if you're an hour away like I am... it's still worth the drive. Great food has no expiration date on distance, and I can already tell you I'll gladly make the trip again just to work my way through the rest of the menu. Thank you, Delicias Dayana, for reminding me what authentic homemade food should taste like. I'll definitely be back... probably sooner than my waistline would like!

I was excited to try this place because I enjoy the restaurant next door. Also I like the shopping…read morebut the food wasn't anything special. The food wasn't bad because I enjoyed the carne asada. However, the rice looked and tested like Uncle Ben's. Some of the wings didn't have a lot of meat on them. The empanadas were interesting. Essentially they used maduros and put a sweet vanilla filling. I didn't particularly like them but it's just personal preference.

I have to call BS on the 3 star rating this place has (at the time of my writing this). I hate to…read moresee restaurants who offer amazing foods suffer because the local patrons are too ignorant to understand what they're experiencing. As an aficionado of South American cuisine, I give this place 2 thumbs way up. I am speaking for the tacos and the pupusas when I say they're some of the best I've tried in the area. I can't speak for the rest of the menu because I haven't had it. So if you're a taco fiend like me, you'll be very happy with this restaurant. Why I think this restaurant isn't popular amongst my fellow Glen Burnians: 1. The ambience. It is VERY authentic to the true South American scene. Don't expect to walk in and feel like you're in Chili's. They blare Latin music and have TVs displaying Spanish telenovelas. Every other authentic South American restaurant I frequent has a similar setup. This is not a flaw. 2. Locals are probably expecting Taco Bell. This is not Taco Bell. REPEAT: this is not Taco Bell. This is also not a flaw (in fact it's a HUGE plus!!) 3. A possible language/ cultural barrier? I am only hypothesizing here, but the people who work here are native Spanish speakers. They know English too, but it's not native, so I can imagine situations of miscommunication happening. I don't know, but again, this is not a flaw. After all, I believe we should all get an opportunity to practice our español from time to time. So all in all, I had a great experience, and will be back on a weekly/biweekly basis!

When I first walked in, I was greeted by some Juanes playing over the speakers. I later noticed some customers choosing their music off in the corner. The interior has a casual cantina feel to it. A couple of TVs were showing History channel en español. Every table had a bottle of neon-green habanero sauce I recognized from many restaurants in Mérida, Mexico. "Okay, this place is legit," I thought. The chips and salsa were good, though I would have loved some extra salsa. I got three pupusas: revuelto, de loroco, and frijoles con queso. All very tasty. Hot, greasy, and cheesy like a pupusa should be. The pickled cabbage that accompanied was fine, though in other places I'd say it's a little bit crisper and brinier. The cold weather outside made me consider soup. As with most Salvadoran places, the standards were available: de res, de mariscos, and for the brave of heart, modongo (tripe). Considering I just wanted a small bit to eat, I passed when I saw the prices of $10-$11 per bowl. Usually that kind of price tag for soup means HUGE portion. Service is decent and friendly. The hostess sympathetically nodded when I ordered a water sin hielo (did I mention it was freezing outside?). I honestly don't know if the staff speaks English. This wasn't a problem for me, pero si no hablas español, quizás sería mejor si vayas a otro lugar. If you're not sure, give them a call and ask. Once I had ordered and received my food, they didn't come over unless I signaled to them. I certainly would go back, though I'm not often in the area. If you're in the area and want some truly authentic Mexican/Salvadoran food, this is the place.

I so love yelp! I saw the pictures of what the restaurant looked like inside and not for those pictures, I would not have went just from looking at it outside. English is their second language and I am okay with that when it comes to food because that means the authenticity meter goes up. My friend had a ride before me and was sitting down with chips and salsa when I arrived. The restaurant was clean but also had a homily feel which I appreciated. After a few minutes the waitress had not returned so I jumped up to grab a menu and decide what I wanted. The menu was in Spanish but had pictures. That with my bad Spanish allowed me to order but I wanted. After some questions I decided upon two carne asada tacos, traditional. Easy, right? Yes! Those were the best tacos I have had in a long time at a restaurant. To meet with tender and there was not a lot of fat or hard in digestible pieces. The salsa verde was spectacular! I wanted to steal it but I kept my composure and remains classy and left it on the table. I actually really enjoyed my food. Must order the napoles and to it with both green sauces.
